The Zimdancehall movement dominated the list of the most viewed musical content on the streaming site Youtube, Limbikani Kabweza ,Founder of TechZim has said.
Presenting the State of the Internet address at the recently held Shoko Festival Hub Unconference, Kabweza said this they discovered when they did their research on Zimbabwean content.
He, however, said that they still were no careful consideration in monetising the benefits that came from garnering huge YouTube views.
“Unfortunately, there has been no structured approach to the distribution Zimdancehall videos,” he said
“ZimDancall videos are posted on various Youtube Channels and not necessarily on the Artist’s official channel,which is a problem in that some artists amass views totalling to a million when all the channels views are combined, this does not help the artist realise the monetary value that comes with the official release of a video.
“But when we spoke to some of the artists they seem to be very content that their videos are out there and are being consumed,” he added.
The Shoko Festival Hub Unconference concluded on Saturday with various speakers sharing their experiences in new media and technology.
