Confusion as the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe Judges Almost Crowned a Wrong Winner

[sociallocker id=3156][/sociallocker]

In what nearly turned into a rehash of the stunning TV moment when Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner at the Miss Universe 2016, well Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2016 judges almost declared a wrong winner for a few minutes.

The embarrassing moment left many in the auditorium and those watching at home in a state of confusion.

Here is what happened:

After the judges announced the top 7, they then had a u-turn and decided to add one more contestant Kudakwashe Chibaiwa to make it a top 8.

Then during the question and answer section, the hosts Tich Mawoni and Rebecca Muchenje told the Top 8 that their contestant numbers will now cease to matter as they would be numbered according to how they were lining up on stage  and in front of the judges, that is to say, the new numbers were now 1 to 8 .

Before the question and answer segment, eventual winner Ashley Morgan had tag number 1 and Chiedza Chinake had tag number 12.

Now using the revised number method Chiedza Chinake was number One.

As the Mcs announced the winner, (they announced number One as the winner)  rightfully so, Chiedza Chinake walked up to be crowned Queen.

But alas the judges resorted to the original contestant numbers which meant that Ashley Morgan was the winner.

We can not falter Chiedza for this as she followed the latter instruction that had been issued.

Then confusion gripped the auditorium, the judges and hosts quickly realised that contestant number 1 was, in fact, Ashley Morgan from Victoria Falls and Chiedza was told that it was not her who had won.

Perhaps the judges should just have kept the numbers as they were as to avoid this humiliating demonstration.

This Zimbuzz reporter tried to speak to Chiedza Chinake backstage but she was weeping uncontrollably as other contestants tried to comfort her.

All she managed to say was “Look I was number One and I thought it was me” before she was whisked away by another girl to avoid media questions.

In a nutshell, the judges and the hosts created this mess and confusion.

The winner was declared to be Ashley Morgan. (pictured above)
