Excitement is building as the inaugural Nyanga Mountain Valley Marathon and Music Festival draws closer, with title sponsor Pacific throwing its weight behind the event set for September 26 at Montclair Hotel in Nyanga.

Hosted by Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG), the event is expected to combine sport, entertainment and tourism, with runners, families and music lovers set to descend on Nyanga for what promises to be a lively day.

Speaking ahead of the event, Pacific marketing manager Kudakwashe Chiutsi said the company was proud to partner RTG on what she described as a wellness campaign.

“We are very proud and happy to join RTG on this powerful marathon, a wellness campaign that they have just started. We are proud to partner with them, and we want this to be an ultimate experience,” said Chiutsi.

Chiutsi acknowledged the questions surrounding a cigarette brand sponsoring a marathon, saying Pacific wanted to support communities and activities that bring people together.

“Everyone will ask, why are we doing this marathon as a cigarette brand? It’s because we want to support the communities we drive, soccer and anything in the community that drives us,” she said.

“We believe our people are the greatest thing we can ever support. We want to own health, have a more active workforce, and it reinforces our commitment to our social community responsibility.”

Chiutsi said the partnership was also about creating an enjoyable experience for the people who support the Pacific brand.

“It’s not just about us, it’s about all the people who support and believe in the brand. Above all, we’re a brand that brings enjoyment to people.”

The event will feature four race categories: the 3km Fun Run, 5km, 10km and 21km Half Marathon, while organisers have also added a golf event to the weekend programme.

Pacific will further add to the excitement by giving away a bicycle to the winning couple of the marathon, alongside other prizes and giveaways.

The icing on the cake will be the music festival, which is expected to provide the climax to the day’s activities.

Award-winning musician Jah Prayzah will headline the festival, with additional artists and live DJs set to entertain the crowds after the races.

With the marathon, golf, music and giveaways all forming part of the programme, Pacific’s backing has added another layer of excitement to what is shaping up to be a big day in Nyanga.
