Ulenje Dance Crew will this year represent Bulawayo province at the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival finals.
The Amabhiza outfit group impressed the judges with their well-drilled performances and walked away with the first prize winners’ cheque of $2500
Izisizwe Sabatha who performed the Beni Arinoti dance came in second ($1500)whilst Isitshikitsha side Bambanani women’s ensemble was adjudged to be second. ($1000)
Other groups that took part included Mthwakazi, Woza Africa, Iluba Lemvelo, Khami Maximum, Jaiva Arts, Ibutho Performing Arts and Thandanani women’s ensemble.
The event which took place at Manor Hotel in the Bulawayo CBD was the penultimate group stage show in Matebeleland, the last preliminary in the province is scheduled for 16 July in Victoria falls.
Speaking to Zimbuzz after the show Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association (ZNTDA) Kennedy Kachuruka said the people of Bulawayo had long waited for the return of the competition
“The competition was good, especially considering that it’s a big event happening after a challenging Covid 19 period, the public was hungry for such festivities and this program as it promotes culture through dance,” he said.
He said focus on the winners should now shift to the finale to be held in August.
“The only other thing I can say is that all Provincial winners should prepare for the national finals and we wish them the best,” he added.
