Minister Sanyatwe Inspects Venues as Zimbabwe Steps Up Preparations for ICC Under-19 World Cup

The Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Honourable Lt Gen (Rtd) Anselem Sanyatwe, toured Harare Sports Club and Takashinga Sports Club in Highfield to assess Zimbabwe Cricket’s readiness ahead of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which runs from 16 January to 6 February and will be co-hosted with Namibia.

This will be the first time in history that Zimbabwe hosts this prestigious tournament. Eight teams will be based in Zimbabwe, with Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo also serving as a venue.

Queens Sports Club will host 11 matches, while Takashinga Sports Club and Harare Sports Club will each host seven matches.

The final will be played at Harare Sports Club on 6 February.

During the tour, Honourable Minister Sanyatwe also inspected the newly constructed, state of the art multi-purpose indoor facility at Harare Sports Club, which includes indoor nets, a gym, and rehabilitation facilities for injury recovery.

Speaking after the visit, the Minister said:

“We would like to thank Zimbabwe Cricket for their efforts. I am impressed after touring these facilities, and it clearly shows that we are ready to host the World Cup.”

Zimbabwe will open their campaign against Scotland on 15 January at Takashinga Sports Club. They will then face England on 18 January at the same venue, before concluding their pool matches against Pakistan on 22 January, also at Takashinga Sports Club.
