Considered by many to be the highlight of the Zimbabwean Horse racing calendar, the Castle Tankard Race is one true grand finale of the race season.
The best class of horses, trainers and jockeys converge annually at the Borrowdale Race Course for a day of incredible action.
It is not only about watching the quickest horses: it’s about glam glory, awesome atmosphere, competition, high-end fashion and having the absolute best time possible from music performances.
Such was the setting as thousands descended at the Borrowdale race course from as early as 11 am only to leave the grounds late at night, as they made sure they glean all there is to absorb from Castle Tankard Race day.
The celebration is a social and public get-together with everyone partaking in the happiness; hearts race in a brief moment period as horses move for position before the champ blasts all of a sudden to triumph.
For this year it was South African debutant Roman Discent who powered to victory in the 56th edition of the Castle Tankard $50 000-rich Grade One horse race Saturday afternoon.
The four yeard old horse was being ridden by Mathew Thackeray blasting past all its competition which included 2017 winner Comanche Brave.
The fashion ‘summa cum laude’ belonged to celebrities Misred and Craig Zoowie who were by a long short the toast of the Castle Tankard.
Misred is a ZiFM and Coke on the Beat presenter whilst Craig Zoowie is one of the country’s finest award-winning Luxury Event Designer and Fashion Stylist.
Misred wore a polka-dot red, figure-hugging dress with a white fur collar and Craig Zoowie was in a floral print black and white blazer with white pants.
The horses had entertained, the fashionistas had dazzled it was time for the fiesta to give its final thrill with live music.
DJ El Roy and Judgement Yard combined talents to dish out music as they waited for Winky D and Alick Macheso.
The two gave a thrilling Castle Tankard performance that capped what was a good outing at the Borrowdale Race Course.
