St George’s College Dragons concluded their week-long tour of South Africa on a bad note as they failed to register a single victory at the Kingswood college 125th Jubilee Rugby festival.
The traditional rugby powerhouse opened their tour with a bruising encounter against Hilton.
St George’s struggled upfront were they were bullied by their opponents who had a heavier pack of forwards and were had to content whenever they got going.
Dragons managed to restrict the Kwa-Zulu natal side to respectable score losing 21-12.
In the Second match, St George’s College entertained Graeme College who made light work of them and made sure they didn’t trouble the scorers losing 19-00.
The Dragons turned out to be their worst enemy with their decision making and game plan. They managed to dominate at set pieces especially at lineouts were they stole a lot of balls of Graeme throw.
Playing for territory would have been more ideal for them and pinning their opposite numbers in their own half.
St George’s finished off their road show with a crushing 17-43 defeat to Clifton college.
The scoreboard was not a true reflection of their final encounter. The boys from Harare managed to dominate territory and whenever they would manage to free up their pacey outside backs the likes of Rukudzo Munyeza.
The dragons looked dangerous but they were not clinical enough and it ended up costing them the match as they let Clifton of the hook several times.
The dragons will now have to regroup and take in all the lessons they have learnt on tour as they turn their attention to the upcoming school’s rugby season.
