The city of Masvingo is set for festivities as it welcomes The Great Zimbabwe International Festival which will take place from 28 to 30 of September 2018.
The Great Zimbabwe International Festival is a project of the Great Zimbabwe International Festival Pvt Ltd which is organising this arts, music, crafts and food festival for the first time in the historic town of Masvingo with the support of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.
It is the brainchild of Zimbabwean Nurse and Journalist Eugene Majuru who mulled the idea of the festival project in 2017 and was given the green light by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority in March 2018.
“I came up with the idea after realising that Great Zimbabwe was lying dormant for quite some time yet has the potential of boosting Zimbabwe’s s tourism sector,” said Majuru.
“I figured out that Great Zimbabwe World Heritage site can be revived such that Masvingo could see apt of local and foreign tourists flocking to witness the historical ruins which play a large and important role in the history of Zimbabwe,” she added.
Majuru also said that she hopes the initiative can lead to the development of the local area, boosting business, creating the much-needed employment and also see the building of a large airport in Masvingo as space and business potential is available.
