Capleton Arrested And Charged With Rape

Dancehall and Reggae legend Capleton real name Clifton Bailey was on Friday arrested on allegations of raping his hairdresser in a hotel, according to Jamaican media.

The entertainer was arrested by detectives assigned to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offence and Child Abuse (CISOCA) after the rape report.

Capleton was questioned in the presence of his attorney Christopher Townsend and that’s when he was arrested and charged.

Reports suggest that the woman filed a police report on May 2 claiming that Capleton sexually assaulted her at a hotel in New Kingston.

In her police report, the unnamed female told police officers that she was contracted by the entertainer to groom his hair at the hotel in New Kingston on April 28 and that’s when he forced himself onto her and had sex with her against her will.

She didn’t file the police report until May 2nd.

Capleton was Monday morning offered bail in the sum of $200,000 when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on a rape charge.

He has denied the allegations saying that the female accuser is lying and even tried to extort him. The superstar even filed a police report about the alleged extortion.

Bailey’s lawyer, Christopher Townsend has since cried foul and alleged that the entertainer is being extorted.

“We made a report to the police and we have been in contact with the police that we are being extorted and I gather that what occurred is that the young lady went and made a report also.

“We have heard several voice notes, there are several WhatsApp messages supporting our allegations of him being extorted,” claimed the lawyer.

The singer commands a large following in Zimbabwe and has filled up venues in his previous visits to the country.

His debut visit was in 2010 during which he celebrated the 2011 New Year holiday with his Zimbabwean fans and made another return in 2012.

If he is found guilty, the artist could face 10-15 years in prison for the crime.
