Open Call to Catalyse Zimbabwe’s Creative Economy

Globally, the Creative economy leverages creativity, technology, culture and innovation catalyses inclusive and sustained economic growth and development.

Creative economy sectors include arts and craft, books, films, paintings, festivals, songs, designs, digital animation and video games.

Accelerators of Creative Economy are Creative and Social hubs by supporting diverse communities of artists, entrepreneurs, activists and culture producers in physical or virtual spaces such as music studios, collectives, online networks, co-working spaces, incubators, and more.

The region has seen the metamorphosis of these spaces over time and noted with great excitement the positive impacts creative hubs offer to communities.

With this in mind, the British Council, Hivos, Nesta in partnership with Enthuse Afrika(ZW), Electric South(ZA) and Youngblood(ZA) have joined forces to develop a flexible co-created learning initiative; formed to support the social and creative hubs in Southern Africa as creative economy drivers and social impact in the region.

Dubbed, connect.hubs, the programme supports diverse communities of artists, entrepreneurs, activists and culture producers in physical or virtual spaces such as music studios, collectives, online networks, co-working spaces, incubators, and more.

The connect.hubs programme will see young leaders, influencers or decision-makers from social and creative hubs attend a 4-day training program designed to build and sustain skills, knowledge and network this November in Cape Town, South Africa as well as Harare, Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwean cohort will impart creative wisdom to decision-makers, influencers (aspiring or established), 18-35 years, running hubs or well on their way to establishing a creative hub from Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The opportunity is open to the Southern African region opened on Wednesday is available for online applications until the 8th of November.

If you know someone who brings their community together to work, collaborate or access resources, connect.hubs is a great opportunity to ‘connect across the region and go create’ locally or beyond.’
