M-Net Movies to air a Pop-up Channel for Sports Films

M-Net Movies is hosting a series of exciting and popular sports films on a special pop-up channel that will run on DStv for three weeks in late February and early March.

With over 70 titles, M-Net Movies Game On will appeal to a wide range of tastes and preferences.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the Game ON Pop-up Channel would launch on Friday February 22 and end on Sunday March 10, during which time some of the most popular and stirring sports films of recent years would be broadcast.

“Game On is a collection of some of the best sports movies to date, and it’s not all just about sport, either, as the centre action will often be a backdrop for deep human drama, humour, real-life tragedy, suspense and love, and some of the movies will investigate pressing social issues,” she said.

The line-up includes the Rocky series, Jerry Maguire, Remember The Titans, A League Of Their Own, Rudy, Warrior, Hurricane, Friday Night Lights, Happy Gilmore, Rush, White Men Can’t Jump, Cool Runnings, Cinderella Man, The Color Of Money.

The Mighty Ducks, The Waterboy, Race, Best Of The Best, Wimbledon, Space Jam, Tour De Phamarcy, Chariots Of Fire, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Blue Crush and Goal!

 Hollywood A-listers feature in many of these films, including Sylvester Stallone, Al Pacino, Denzel Washington, Tom Cruise, Dennis Quaid, Tom Hanks, Cameron Diaz, Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Rodriguez and Kate Bosworth.

 Feature films are complemented by six documentaries focused on some of the greatest stars in history, includingRonaldo, Ayrton Senna, Pelé and Sir Stanley Matthews.

Each weekend of the Game On run will have themed days. The flag drops on Formula One Friday February 22, followed by Soccer Saturday on February 23, and Super Bowl Sunday the following day.

On Friday March 1 there will be a boxing extravaganza, while Saturday March 2 is devoted to basketball and Sunday March 3 to baseball.

On Friday March 8 the focus swings to golf, then ice hockey on Saturday March 9, with rugby and athletics the focus of Sunday March 10.
