Redefined Concert: The Definition of a new Experience

City lights in Harare are brightest on a Saturday night. The driveway towards the Rainbow Towers entrance was locked and entry points hell no you could lose an intestine in the scramble to get tickets checked.

Abisha Palmer warmed the stage as the arena continued to devour more revellers. Not forgetting Soul Jah Love’s hits which routinely frenzied the atmosphere.

Winky D’s rivalry with JP is now a natural tendency which the more we try to sanitize the dirtier it gets.

The Redefined Concert held last night in Harare at the HICC by Gateway Stream Music is the latest cosmetic thrown into the rhetoric. Concomitantly, Nutty O’s affectionate rise has earned him a seat amongst Zimbabwe’s contemporary music torch bearers.

Nutty O’s entrance with Open Doors was successful in declaring intent – to redefine. The ABX flag furthered the notion as it communicated determination by his fans to finally witness the ordainment of maybe the new king?

Nutty O went on to give fans a performance of a lifetime thanks to the Mustard Seed album. Shabach The Band anchored the plot whilst his dancers did justice to the aesthetics.

He dedicated his performance to the late Soul Jah Love and Calvin before sending props to Patoranking by giving an ode of his music.

It would not have been a complete narrative without thanking the brothers for mentorship until a point they get to fill up the giant HICC together. As anticipated, the hit song Handipere Power concluded the satisfactory set which gave people real value for their money.

Reviews for this show would have been centred on the aforementioned discourse of redefinition. It was not to be. A little after Nutty O’s performance, radio diva KVG announced JP as the next performer and conspiracy has it that backstage had a different script.

Winky D emerged as the second act. He too would redefine the concert. HICC has for years been lauded to be his fortress and an epic delivery by the Vigilance Band left the audience awestruck.

The Gaffa had to rest the HICC choir to tease his upcoming single XYZ and the witty lyricism is yet to fail.

Jah Prayzah is a formidable performer but coming after Winky D was a gross miscalculation.

Immediately after the latter’s performance, the arena started emptying up. It became an uphill task to engage an already jogged-out audience. He prematurely left the stage without performing his latest single Furuwa as Goto accompanied revellers to the exit.

The whole experience of yesterday has little memory of Jah Prayzah taking part and this has twisted the conversation and robs Nutty O of deserved attention.

Things could have been different had JP performed before Winky D? Share with us your feedback.
