Making God Greater: An Interview with Pastor G on the Collaboration ‘MAGNIFY’

Pastor G, who recently collaborated with iconic gospel singer and worshiper Pastor Bonnie Deuschle on the song “Magnify,” shared his thoughts on worship and its significance in a recent interview.

Magnify which dropped last Friday also features Janet Manyowa and Tembalami together with the voices of Bernice Tianna Munyaradzi, Sarah Deuschle, Tommy Deuschle, Jonathan Deuschle, Taps Mugadza and Nigel Nyangombe.

According to Pastor G, worship is about making God the centre of everything and ascribing worth or value to Him.

“I believe that worship is about centring on whom God is in relation to us, putting God in his rightful place. The word worship itself comes from the word worth-ship, ascribing worth or value to something,” he explained.

“When you look at a song like Magnify, it talks about making God bigger and us, less.”

When it comes to the song “Magnify,” Pastor G sees it as a call to action for believers to put God back in the centre of their lives. He believes that in a world where people are often focused on making a name for themselves, worship is about making sure that God’s name and word increase above everything else.

“I believe the song Magnify is a rallying call to all believers to put the name of the Lord first, in light of the past Covid pandemic, it was a period of great tribulation, a period of great trial and testing for a lot of people, said Pastor G.

“We lost loved ones, we lost hope, and in some circumstances, we lost opportunities. So, magnify is a rallying call to say let’s put God back in the centre of our lives.”

Pastor G also shared his admiration for Pastor Bonnie Deuschle, whom he referred to as a mother in the gospel music community. He credited her with pioneering contemporary worship in Zimbabwe.

“I believe that Pastor Bonnie is a real mother in the sense that she pioneered contemporary worship in Zimbabwe by and large in terms of the contemporary sound of gospel music,” he revealed.

“So, she is a mother in that respect and one of the people who made it possible for a lot of us to then do that genre of music, so she is a mother to a lot of us worship leaders and gospel artists.”

Pastor Bonnie Deuschle is co-founder and co-pastor of Celebration Church, one of the largest in Zimbabwe along with her husband Tom.

Added Pastor G: “She has done a lot to show us how to make sure that we do music that is vertical; that points to God and not just our talents and gifts but to the name of Jesus as the answer and foundation for all life.”
