Pezhuba Pachena Takes Mat North in Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival

Pezhuba Pachena from Hwange won the Mat North provincials at this year’s Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival, which took place on Saturday.

The group, which specialises in the Nsumbule Dance, charmed the judges at the Chinotimba New Tavern and will go on to represent the province in the national finals.

The festival was a melting pot of diverse traditions, with Amakhosikazi from Victoria Falls captivating the audience with their Isitshikitsha dance, earning them second place.

Sizofika, another troupe from the tourism capital, showcased the energetic Mzansi dance, securing the third position.

The winners were rewarded handsomely, with Pezhuba Pachena taking home a cash prize of USD 2,500, while Amakhosikazi and Sizofika received USD 1,500 and USD 1,000 respectively.

The celebrations were a testament to the rich cultural tapestry woven by the people of Matabeleland North.

The baton now passes to the provinces of Mashonaland Central and Masvingo, where they will determine their champions on June 8, 2024.
