Shoko Festival-bound Zimbabwean Stand-up Comedian Learnmore Jonasi has advanced to the Finals of America’s Got Talent (AGT) Season 19.
Learnmore Jonasi is set to headline the Shoko Festival Comedy Night in Harare on 26 September.
Early bird tickets to the Comedy night are going for $15 and $20 at the gate, you can purchase your tickets on Flippin Tickets
The Finals of the AGT will air on Tuesday, September 17 after that, America will have a full week to vote on their favourites before the winner is crowned on September 24.
The winner will walk away with a $1 million prize and their very own shot at fame and fortune in Las Vegas.
Learnmore Jonasi is from Chimanimani a small village in Zimbabwe. He was once featured on Comedy Central and has won multiple awards including the Steve Harvey Spotlight Award. One of his routines went viral on TikTok.
Before his performance, Learnmore confessed his ambition to be like Terry Crews ever since he saw the movie White Chicks with his parents while he was growing up and how he loved his physical humour and as such Crews was his hero.
Learnmore also confessed that he used to watch AGT with his grandmother who would always tell him that she could see him performing on the show and how he learnt English through watching comedy with his grandfather.
Audition
Learnmore Jonasi’s audition in Episode 1901 consisted of performing a stand-up routine comparing his former life in Zimbabwe to that of the United States. Impressed with his performance, Terry Crews hit the Golden Buzzer, sending him directly to the live shows.
Quarterfinals
Learnmore Jonasi’s Quarterfinal performance in Episode 1913 was about the excitement of getting his green card, gluten allergies, anxiety, his sexuality, how complicated American food is when compared to Zimbabwean food and how Zimbabwean names have meanings to them.
Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations. He received enough votes to enter the top 5 of the night and advanced to the Semifinals
Semifinals
Learnmore Jonasi’s Semifinal performance consisted of performing a stand-up comedy routine about learning American culture through watching movies and the difference between American and African dogs. He received enough votes to advance to the Finals.
