Cimas iGo Half Marathon: 1,500+ Runners Champion Men’s Health Awareness

On a cool and inviting Sunday morning, perfect for running, Harare’s ZB Sports Club buzzed with energy as over 1,500 runners gathered to participate in the Cimas iGo Half Marathon.

The event, held under the theme “Men’s Health Champions Build Healthier Communities,” was a call to action for raising awareness about prostate cancer and promoting healthier lifestyles during Movember.

The marathon featured three race categories—the 21km, 10km, and 5km—offering a platform for both seasoned athletes and casual runners to contribute to a noble cause.

The initiative also aimed to generate funds for the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe to support patients.

The day’s most anticipated event, the 21km race, saw Edson Nyadembera clinch victory with an impressive time of 1:17:56. He was closely followed by Davison Madzivanyika and Wallace Chimbodza, who completed the podium.

In the 10km race, Watson Masendeke emerged victorious with a time of 40:53, with Samuel Vutete and Washington Chaminuka securing second and third places, respectively.

The 5km race crowned Mthokozisi Ncube as the winner, with Tichaona Mapazviripi and Panashe Kariwo finishing in second and third positions.

The Cimas iGo Half Marathon also shone a spotlight on the importance of early detection and proactive health management. Cimas Health Group’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mrs Tatenda Madzikanda, celebrated the event’s success, saying:

“For the Cimas Half Marathon event, we are happy to report that it has been a success with over 1,500 runners coming through to participate. We trust and believe that we have played our role as Cimas in terms of raising awareness about men’s health issues and, in particular, prostate cancer.

“We do trust that the message has gotten through, and we definitely have men going to the Cimas clinics, to their GPs, to get tested and screened for prostate cancer.”

Mrs. Madzikanda also highlighted the importance of continuing this momentum, inviting participants to the next leg of the marathon in Bulawayo on November 24 at the Bulawayo Athletics Club.

“We are definitely looking forward to a bigger and better event next year, and I’m inviting those in Bulawayo or those that can travel to Bulawayo to join us. Please come and raise awareness in terms of prostate cancer during the global movement where we commemorate the Movember month.”

Mrs. Junior Mavu, General Manager of the association, underscored the significance of such contributions in supporting cancer patients and promoting healthier lifestyles.

“Our main thrust is to support people with cancer and their families. Today, we are happy that Cimas has supported us financially through this initiative.

“We also encourage communities to commit to better lifestyles such as taking a balanced diet and engaging in sporting activities to remain fit and reduce cancer incidences. Prostate cancer is the number one killer disease for men; hence, education and awareness are key.”
