Zimbabwean football legend Alois Bunjira was involved in a fatal car accident on Saturday morning that claimed two lives along the Rusape–Nyanga Road.
Police confirmed the crash occurred around 10 a.m. at the 8-kilometer peg, when an Isuzu pickup carrying three passengers attempted to overtake a bus and slammed head-on into Bunjira’s BMW.
Two passengers from the Isuzu died.
Their bodies were taken to Rusape General Hospital for post-mortem, while the the surviving crash victims are admitted at the same institution where they are receiving treatment.
Bunjira, a CAPS United icon, was reportedly on his way to his rural home in Honde Valley for route certification work tied to his Honde Valley Marathon.
He has been pushing to make the race an official qualifier for South Africa’s Comrades Marathon.
