As it celebrates 80 years of service, Cimas Health Group has announced the launch of the CIMAS @80 Media Awards, an initiative designed to recognise and reward journalists who spotlight health and wellness issues in Zimbabwe.
The awards, to be held in partnership with the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ), will honour excellence across four categories: Healthcare Transformation, Health and Wellness, Excellence in Medical Innovation, and Public Health Awareness.
They are open to journalists working in print, broadcast, and digital media across the country.
Each category winner will receive a cash prize of $1,500, with $750 awarded to the runner-up, underscoring Cimas’s commitment to encouraging high-quality reporting on health issues.
Speaking at the launch, Cimas Health Group CEO Vuli Ndlovu emphasised the vital role of the media in shaping public understanding of healthcare.
“We value the work of the media, not just as a communication channel but as a strategic stakeholder in driving healthcare and awareness of wellness,” Ndlovu said.

“As journalists, we want you to be the bridge between the healthcare world and communities. Through your work, you are able to investigate and translate complex health and wellness issues into stories that people can easily relate to.”
The CEO added that the awards reflect Cimas’s recognition of the media’s influence in advancing public health.
Cimas, which also sponsors the Health Reporter of the Year category at the annual National Journalism and Media Awards (NJAMA), has long positioned itself as a champion of health literacy in Zimbabwe.
The new awards, launched as part of its anniversary celebrations, reinforce that commitment.
