In a thrilling encounter on Saturday, teenage sensation Allen Mukombedzi stepped into the spotlight, scoring the pivotal goal that secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory for Caps United against a resilient AGAMA side.
The 16-year-old Mukombedzi made his Castle Lager Premier Soccer League debut in the 77th minute, coming on for Tanaka Shandirwa with the match delicately poised at 1-1.
Just three minutes later, Mukombedzi showcased his poise and skill, meeting a pinpoint cross from Ishmael Wadi to strike home the winner, sending the home fans into raptures.
The match began with a swift strike from Caps United, as Wadi opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the first half.
The goal marked the new era of Takesure Chiragwi’s reign at Caps United.
The striker found himself unmarked and made no mistake, nodding the ball past the AGAMA goalkeeper who was left helpless.
However, AGAMA, despite being relative newcomers to the league, exuded confidence and pressed Caps United throughout the match.
Their persistence paid off when Ralph Nyamupurika, the standout attacker, demonstrated his finesse by chipping the ball over Caps’ goalie Magalane to equalise in the 50th minute.
Despite AGAMA’s spirited performance, Mukombedzi’s late heroics ensured Caps United walked away with all three points.
