Zimbabwe women’s cricket team got their ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2021 campaign on a bad note losing by 8 runs to Thailand in a fiercely contested match at Harare sports club.
It was a game of fine margins as the host proved to be their worst enemy as they gave Thailand extra runs with their untidy bowling and fielding.
Thailand managed to capitalise from that with 6 of their batters scoring double figures. Natthakan Chatham top-scoring with 48 runs.
While with the bat the Lady Chevrons’ opening pair of Modester Mupachikwa and Sharne Mayers was very slow out of the blocks only managing 49 runs with an extremely low strike rate.
Josephine Nkomo managed to exacerbate things with a decent knock of 56 runs of 66 balls before she was caught behind by Koncharoenkai.
The Zimbabwe skipper Mary Anne Musonda was in inspired form with the bat scoring 69 runs of 65, but it was all in vain as it was not enough to get the team over the line.
The lady chevrons will be hoping for better fortunes on Thursday 25 November when they face the United States of America at Takashinga Sports Club.
