Afghanistan’s clean sweep of the Chevrons both in the ODIs and T20I has cost Lalchand Rajput his job as the head coach.
Results have not been forthcoming under the stewardship of Rajput as Zimbabwe sunk to an all-time low losing back-to-back series on the trot.
Zimbabwe Cricket late afternoon today announced the appointment of Dave Houghton as Head Coach of the Zimbabwe Senior Men’s National Team in a reshuffle that sees Lalchand Rajput assuming a new role as Technical Director.
The changes were confirmed during a ZC Board meeting held on Tuesday.
The final T20 match of the series between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe was a mere dead rubber, the visitors won the toss and chose bat first.
Mohammad Navi was the pick of the batsman for Afghanistan scoring 31 runs off 30 balls.
The host put up spirited performances with the ball, Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl picking up two wickets apiece restricting Afghanistan to a modest total of 125-8 in their allotted 20 overs.
However, Zimbabwe’s batting woes continued with Burl top-scoring with 15 runs which was simply not good enough as they went on to lose the match by 35 runs.
The series humiliation forced the board’s hand which has appointed former captain and coach David Houghton as the new head coach with immediate effect.
