Nedbank Junior Sables kicked off their title defence in spectacular fashion with an impressive 46-21 victory over Tunisia at the Machinery Exchange Stadium at Harare Sports Club.
The game started with Tunisia showing their dominance in the forwards, but it was Zimbabwe who struck first with a brilliant try from Allan Maunga, converted by Benoni Nhakairo, giving them an early lead of 7-3.
Tunisia replied with a penalty to close the gap to just one point.
Zimbabwe, known for their running rugby, then took control of the game with Khowalini Moyo breaking through the Tunisia defence for another converted try, bringing the score to 14-6. Edward Sigauke added to the lead with an unconverted try, making it 19-6.
Tunisia fought back with a try of their own, but Zimbabwe captain Nhakairo extended their lead with a penalty just before halftime, making it 22-11.
Tunisia came out strong in the second half, closing the gap to 22-18, but Zimbabwe continued to dazzle with their attacking play.
Another try from Zimbabwe extended their lead to 27-18, with Sigauke scoring his second try of the game to make it 34-18.
Tunisia managed to reduce the deficit with a penalty, but Zimbabwe finished the game off in style with a try from Tanaka Mupamhazi, sealing the victory at 46-21.
In other matches, Kenya continued their dominance over Namibia with a thrilling 34-28 victory in a closely contested match.
The Nedbank Junior Sables will be looking to carry this momentum forward as they aim to retain their title in the Barthes Cup.
