Zimbabwe’s biggest musical acts descend on London for one of UK’s premier events the SAMA Festival powered by the renowned Y2K promotions.
This year’s festival branding rights are with car rental company Impala Car Rentals and the festivity has been named the Impala SAMA UK Tour 2018.
The Impala SAMA Fest, which is the first big event on the Zim-UK events calendar will see living legend Dr Oliver Mutukudzi, Zim Dancehall sensation Winky D and South African Superstars Mafikizolo share the stage with wildcards Andy Muridzo and Sam Dondo as they light up London and Coventry.
On board also is money transfer institutions Mukuru.com and WorldRemit as well as the welcoming of the Coventry BID team. Since Coventry is the UK City of culture 2021, it is a perfect opportunity for the organisers to start a partnership.
SAMA Festival which means Southern African Music and Arts will kick off this Easter, at London’s Oasis Venue, and finishing up in the plush SkyDome Arena the following day.
The SAMA weekender launched in 2009, is building up a track record of bringing Southern African music and culture to the UK.
This is an opportunity to witness the best talent from the southern part of Africa. Sothern Africa is home to some of the hottest and brightest talents across Africa, and the SAMA tour is leading the way in showcasing this talent to the Afro-pop movement and the rest of the world.
“Team Y2K has been working hard to ensure that this year we deliver beyond the expectations of our patrons who are the reason why we do this. We are thankful for the support we have received not just from the corporate world but also from the fans and the artists themselves who are excited about the event.
“The response has been very positive, gauged by the advance online ticket sales as well as actual enquiries. As you will realize from our line up, we have decided to switch up our artist bill and become more inclusive of musicians raising the African bar.
“We are excited to have Mafikizolo from South Africa joining the Zimbabwean stars and looking forward to watching them all create magical memories for everyone who will attend the events,” said an official from Y2K.
Impala car rentals Brand and Projects manager, Tracy Ngoma says the event has provided them with the perfect opportunity to make their contribution towards growing the local music industry.
“We believe music is the one thing that brings people together despite the different languages they may speak. Our business at Impala is not limited by region or nationality, it, therefore, made sense for us to partner with Y2k as Impala is looking to spread like music and reach everyone no matter where they are in the world.”
Mukuru.com says partnering with Y2K for this project is their first step towards growing platforms that encourage artist development.
“We hope to get involved in more initiatives such as SAMA Fest to promote our artists as we strongly believe in securing top talent and mentoring upcoming artists. “ Mika Stuttaford – Head of Digital, Mukuru.com
