Swedish DJ Avicii found dead

Swedish DJ and producer Avicii has died. He was 28. His publicist, Diana Baron, confirmed the news in a statement.

Publicist Diana Baron said in a statement that the 28-year-old, who was born Tim Bergling, was in Muscat, Oman.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” it reads.

“He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

A cause of death has not been announced.

In early 2016, he announced his retirement from touring in a lengthy letter to fans on his website. Avicii suffered from health problems for several years, including acute pancreatitis which caused him to have his gallbladder and appendix removed four years ago.

Avicii broke out with his smash hit “Levels” and also produced massive songs including “Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother.”

Avicii was a pioneer of the contemporary Electronic Dance Movement and a rare DJ capable of a worldwide arena tour.

He won two MTV Music Awards and one Billboard Music Award and earned two Grammy nominations. His biggest hit was Le7els.

His death comes just days after he was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for top dance/electronic album for his EP Avicii (01).
