Simba Bhora Coach Luphahla Sets Sights on Title Defence

Simba Bhora head coach Joel Luphahla has declared his ambition to defend their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title this season, emphasising the high expectations that come with leading the reigning champions.

The Shamva-based side made a commanding 3-1 victory over CAPS United on Sunday, moving within two points of early league leaders MWOS.

First-half strikes from Barnabas Mtuwa and Donald Mudadi put Simba in control before Emmanuel Ziocha sealed the win after the break, while CAPS United’s lone reply came from Alois Bunjira Junior with a well-placed consolation effort.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Luphahla—who is navigating his debut season as a top-flight head coach—acknowledged the pressure of managing the defending champions but embraced the challenge of staying at the summit.

“We are the defending champions. When I came here, of course, it’s my first season in the PSL as a head coach, but the pressure was there,” Luphahla said.

“They said, ‘Coach, when you are number one, where do you want to go?’ And I said, ‘Number one.’ Because you cannot say from number one you want to go to number two.”

England vs Zimbabwe: Crawley, Pope & Duckett score centuries as hosts dominate day one at Trent Bridge

Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope scored timely centuries after Ben Duckett smoked a ton of his own as England dominated a wayward Zimbabwe on day one of the four-day Test at Trent Bridge.

Those hundreds for the top-three batters saw the hosts reach 498-3 from 88 overs by stumps after losing the toss, with much of the intrigue towards the end of the day hinging on whether England would declare, a decision Ben Stokes ultimately opted against.

Zimbabwe, playing their first Test in England in 22 years, allowed the home side far too many easy runs on a belting batting surface.

The Chevrons were hampered by an injury to seamer Richard Ngarava as their opponents rattled along at 5.65 an over and Joe Root (34) became the fifth batter in history to pass 13,000 Test runs.

Richard Ngarava left the field ten minutes into the second session with what was later confirmed to be a back spasm.

He returned an hour and five minutes into the third, with a ginger step. He fielded for a few minutes but was soon back in the dressing room, which limited his day’s work to nine overs in the morning.

Seamer Blessing Muzarabani, who was also the most threatening of the quicks, bowled 20 overs while Sikandar Raza delivered 24 overs but little Zimbabwe tried hurt England.

The hosts’ top-order batted with exactly the right mix of caution and aggression, though the scoring rate of 5.66 would suggest only the latter.

CAPS United Reconnects with Its Roots Through Strategic Appointments

In a bold and symbolic move aimed at restoring the spirit and identity of the club, CAPS United have appointed their former striker, Limited Chikafa, as the new team manager.

The decision follows closely on the heels of another strategic appointment—former midfield maestro Ian Bakala, who has taken over as head coach.

Bakala, who replaces Lloyd Chitembwe, brings both tactical insight and emotional resonance to the job.

His appointment, like Chikafa’s, is being viewed not just as a technical decision, but as part of a larger strategy by the club to revive the “CAPS United DNA” — a culture rooted in pride, unity, and on-field excellence.

The Green Machine, as they are affectionately known, have struggled this season.

But these recent moves signal a deliberate shift — a return to the club’s values and legacy by bringing back those who understand what it truly means to wear the green and white jersey.

In football and sports in general appointing former players to leadership roles is more than a nostalgic gesture.

It’s a proven cultural blueprint. These are individuals who have walked the walk, bled for the badge, and carry with them the ethos of the institution.

For players currently in the squad, having leaders who are also club legends can be a powerful motivator.

They don’t just bring experience; they bring a lived history and an emotional connection that can’t be manufactured.

Clubs around the world, from FC Barcelona to Ajax Amsterdam, have used this model with great success. It fosters continuity, builds loyalty, and ensures that traditions and philosophies are passed on to new generations.

CAPS United’s current leadership clearly sees this as a way to restore pride and performance at a time when results have faltered.

ZRP Releases List of Close to 290 Vehicles in Traffic Offence

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have published a list of nearly 300 vehicle number plates allegedly involved in traffic light violations.

Those listed are being asked to “assist ongoing” investigations and report to the police within seven days.

Although the notice does not specify when or where the offences occurred, the ZRP says it sterms from a new Electronic Traffic Management System they have implemented.

In response, a concerned citizen has developed a searchable online database to help vehicle owners navigate the 290 listed plates.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs prosecutors fear Cassie may go into labour and ‘risk a mistrial’ due to lengthy testimony

Prosecutors in the Sean “Diddy” Combs sex-trafficking trial told the Manhattan federal court after Casandra “Cassie” Ventura’s gruelling third day of testimony that they fear she may go “into labour.”

The federal government wrote in a letter to the judge, “The defendant should not now be afforded the opportunity to hold Ms. Ventura on cross-examination over the weekend, offering him an additional two days to review transcripts of the witness’s testimony to prepare additional cross-examination inquiry, or risk a mistrial if the witness goes into labor.”

The prosecutors have said that they would like Combs’ lawyers to finish their cross-examination of Ventura.

The amount of time the “Me & U” singer has been on the stand has been a contentious point at the trial.

Judge Arun Subramanian told prosecutors Thursday afternoon, “You will have today and the morning tomorrow” to finish cross-examination, adding, This is not the kind of witness who is fighting you.”

However, Combs’ lead defense counsel Marc Agnifilo responded that their team was not aware that there was a hard deadline for Ventura, noting, “This is a critical witness in a case that involves a life sentence.”

“In what universe did you not understand this was important given it was in numerous filings and discussed among the parties several times? This witness was going to be done this week,” Judge Subramanian hit back. “You have a day-and-a-half.”

The hours-long testimonies have clearly taken a toll on Ventura, who is currently eight months pregnant. (She is expecting her third child with husband Alex Fine).

On Thursday, the “Long Way 2 Go” singer asked the judge for a break only minutes into the defence’s cross-examination after attorney Anna Estevao presented her racy and sexual texts to the court.

The lawyer pressed Ventura on a text that said, “I’m always ready to freak off lol” to try and prove she was a willing participant in the infamous “Freak-Offs,” in which the singer had sex with Combs and an escort.

“I can’t wait to stare at some big black d–k,” another text read, along with a third in which Ventura graphically described what she couldn’t “wait” for her then-boyfriend to do to her.

The latter was what pushed the “King of Hearts” singer, 38, over the edge, prompting for the break request, as she held onto her baby bump while on the stand.

“I really wanted to win this game” — Chaminuka

Rufaro Stadium witnessed a hard-fought 1-1 draw between arch-rivals Dynamos and CAPS United in a Matchday 12 clash of the 2025 Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

While the historic Harare Derby lacked some of its usual spark, the match was not without drama—both on and off the pitch.

Dynamos fans staged a boycott, protesting against the club’s ownership and demanding either a sale or significant changes to revive the team’s fortunes.

Despite the subdued atmosphere, the action on the field delivered moments of excitement.

After a cagey first half that ended goalless, Dynamos broke the deadlock in the 54th minute when Emmanuel Jalai coolly converted a penalty.

However, their lead was short-lived as CAPS United’s Kundai Benyu stunned the crowd with a spectacular long-range strike that flew into the net, ensuring the points were shared.

Dynamos’ new head coach Saul Chaminuka said he had hoped for a derby win to revive the club, which is languishing near the relegation zone.

“I so much wanted to win this game so that we start with a good three points,” he said.

“But nevertheless, I think this game is going to give the boys a lot of confidence, and going forward, I’m sure whatever we will be sharing should see us developing into a team, and we will get good results.”

The result leaves both sides with plenty to ponder as the league season continues, but for now, bragging rights remain unsettled in Zimbabwe’s most storied football rivalry.
