Fan Disillusionment Grows as Highlanders Defeat Dynamos Again

Dynamos entered the match against Highlanders unprepared, as the players had boycotted training last week over unpaid dues.

Highlanders showed no mercy to their arch-rivals, defeating them 2-0 and completing a league double following their 2-1 win at Barbourfields in Bulawayo in the first leg.

Bosso scored through McKinnon Mushore and Godfrey Makaruse on either side of the half, adding to the woes of the struggling giants.

Dembare fans who spoke to Zimbuzz Sports expressed disinterest in the once-beloved team.

“We now come to football as a pastime activity. Our passion has eroded. We are a big team, and to go for about 10 years without winning a league title kills your passion,” said a fan who identified himself only as Kivho.

Others believe they have lost their community team to Dembare’s ‘owner’ Marriot.

“This is no longer our Dynamos; it’s now Bernard Marriot’s team. He does with it as he will, and we can’t even identify or love it anymore. That’s why you see the Vietnam Stand is no longer as passionate as it used to be,” lamented Gemosh Mudzi.

The gloss of the Glamour Boys has waned over the years, with the emerging dominance of teams like Platinum Stars, who now go into each season as favourites, something that was once reserved for Dynamos.

However, there are others who refuse to see the glaring gloom in the blue-and-white team.

“I’m a prisoner of hope,” chuckled Manatsa, a Dembare fan. “Things will turn around. Teams all around us are now well-funded and improving. Teams like Simba Bhora had a better transfer window than us, so it’s expected that Dynamos will struggle.”
