Nyaungwe Arts Triumphs Again: Wins Record Fifth Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Title

In a rich display of cultural heritage and dance mastery, Murehwa-based dance group Nyaungwe Arts clinched the 2024 Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance finals at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo on Saturday.

 

This victory marks their fifth win in the competition’s history, having previously triumphed in 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2018.

The Mashonaland East ensemble’s performance earned them a grand prize of US$15,000, one of the largest cash rewards in Zimbabwean talent competitions.

Their impressive record and consistent excellence have solidified their reputation as a powerhouse in traditional dance.

Culture Warriors

Coming in second place was Harare’s Culture Warriors, who walked away with a substantial US$10,000. Former champions Dapurahunanzva from Manicaland secured the third spot, pocketing US$7,500.

The Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival has long been a cornerstone in promoting and preserving Zimbabwe’s rich cultural dances.

This year’s event, held at the iconic Mucheke Stadium, drew thousands of spectators, underscoring its enduring popularity and significance.

Adding to the excitement, attendees were treated to electrifying performances by some of Zimbabwe’s top musical talents, including Jah Prayzah, Tocky Vibes, and Killer T, making the day a memorable celebration of the nation’s cultural and artistic heritage.
