William Manondo scored his 10th goal of the season to give Caps United a hard-fought 1-0 win against FC Platinum on Sunday in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match.
A well-delivered cross from Alois Bunjira Jr was met by a clinical header from Manondo in the 37th minute, a goal that dealt a blow to FC Platinum’s title ambitions.
This victory also marked Caps United’s first win against the Miners in seven years.
FC Platinum’s loss means Simba Bhora, who defeated Yadah Stars 1-0 on Saturday, have taken over the league lead with 43 points, one more than the Zvishavane-based side.
Meanwhile, Dynamos’ struggles continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields Stadium, meaning they have won only three of their last 10 matches.
Elsewhere, first-half goals from Nqobile Ndlovu and Archford Faira secured a 2-1 win for Highlanders over Chegutu Pirates at the Baobab Stadium, with Dexter Phiri scoring a late consolation for the hosts.
The match between relegation-threatened TelOne and Hwange at Bata Stadium in Gweru ended in a goalless draw.
