Caps United Football Club has announced the signing of Tanaka Shandirwa on a three-year pre-contract set to take effect from the 2025 season.
Shandirwa has been on loan at Dynamos from Yadah.
Once one of Zimbabwe’s brightest prospects in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, the 24-year-old midfielder has seen his star dim due to a string of disciplinary issues during his time at Dynamos FC.
However, his transfer to Caps United under the watchful eye of coach Lloyd Chitembwe could mark the beginning of a much-needed revival for his career.
A Talent Tarnished by Controversy
Tanaka Shandirwa burst onto the local football scene with exceptional technical ability and a knack for controlling midfield battles.
At his peak, he was challenging for a national team jersey and even sparked interest from clubs outside Zimbabwe.
However, his career trajectory took a nosedive in the last season. Poor form coupled with frequent disciplinary infractions—both on and off the field at Dynamos derailed his development.
At one point, he was summoned by his ‘spiritual father,’ Prophet Walter Magaya—the President of Yadah FC, his parent club—in an attempt to counsel him and bring him back in line.
A fresh start under the guidance of Lloyd Chitembwe offers a lifeline for Shandirwa to regain his focus and realise his full potential.
Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe is renowned as a no-nonsense disciplinarian. His coaching philosophy prioritises discipline, teamwork, and hard work—qualities Shandirwa must embrace to rebuild his reputation.
The coach’s stern leadership style and emphasis on accountability could help curb Shandirwa’s past tendencies, instilling the professionalism he needs to return to his best form.
The signing of Shandirwa is a calculated risk for Caps United. If the player can put his troubled past behind him, he has the talent to become a game-changer for the team.
