Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) has launched a US$2 million refurbishment of Montclair Resort & Conference Hotel in Nyanga, a major investment aimed at modernising the property and strengthening the Eastern Highlands’ position as one of Zimbabwe’s leading tourism destinations.
The upgrade, which began on June 1 and is scheduled for completion by July 31, will transform guest rooms, public spaces and dining facilities while allowing the hotel to remain fully operational throughout the construction period.
RTG Group Chief Executive Tendai Madziwanyika said the investment reflects the company’s confidence in the future of the Eastern Highlands tourism market.
“The Eastern Highlands is one of Zimbabwe’s most spectacular tourism assets, and we believe it has immense potential to become the country’s next major tourism destination alongside Victoria Falls,” Madziwanyika said.
“Through investments such as this refurbishment of Montclair Resort & Conference Hotel, RTG is playing its part in opening up the region, enhancing tourism infrastructure and creating experiences that attract both domestic and international travellers.”
RTG acquired the property in 2025 and has since embarked on a strategy to unlock its commercial potential. The company has already increased the hotel’s room capacity from 85 to 105 rooms through space optimisation, including the conversion of selected suites and former office spaces into guest accommodation.

The refurbishment will include extensive replastering and repainting, new ceilings and flooring, upgraded bathrooms with walk-in showers, modern lighting, and the replacement of plumbing, electrical and heating systems.
Rooms will also be fitted with smart televisions, international power outlets and USB charging ports to cater to the needs of modern travellers.
Madziwanyika said the project is about more than improving the physical appearance of the hotel.
“This investment is about more than upgrading a hotel. It is about raising standards, driving destination competitiveness and creating memorable experiences for our guests,” he said.
The renovation follows another milestone for the property after it recently received ISO 9001:2015 certification from the Standards Association of Zimbabwe. Montclair becomes the seventh RTG property to achieve the internationally recognised quality management certification.
“For us, ISO is not merely a certification; it is a commitment to consistency, quality and continuous improvement,” Madziwanyika said. “Ultimately, our goal is to deliver exceptional guest experiences at every touchpoint.”
Sustainability also forms a key part of the project. The refurbished hotel will feature water-saving low-flow flushing systems and smart key-card technology designed to reduce electricity consumption and improve operational efficiency.
In addition, the hotel continues to expand RTG’s farm-to-table initiative, producing vegetables and herbs on-site for use in its kitchens. The program is intended to reduce transportation-related emissions while providing guests with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
The investment comes as Zimbabwe’s tourism industry continues to recover and expand, with operators increasingly investing in upgraded facilities to attract both local and international visitors.
