Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has thrown its full backing behind the coaching structure that guided Zimbabwe to the Super Eight stage of this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with the Board retaining Head Coach Justin Sammons and his technical team while approving key appointments across the men’s high-performance pathway.
Meeting in Harare on 23 June 2026, the ZC Board endorsed recommendations from its Cricket Committee, chaired by Mr Blessing Ngondo, confirming the senior men’s coaching and support staff, the Zimbabwe Under-19 Men’s technical team and the national selection panels.
Among the headline decisions was the appointment of West Indies fast-bowling legend Courtney Walsh as Zimbabwe Senior Men’s substantive Bowling Coach following his successful spell as bowling consultant during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.
Sammons will continue to lead the senior men’s technical team, supported by Assistant Coach (Batting) Dion Ebrahim, Bowling Coach Courtney Walsh, Fielding and Lower-Order Batting Coach Stuart Matsikenyeri,
Strength and Conditioning Coach Curtly Diesel, Team Doctor Dr Solomon Madzogo, Team Manager Dilip Chouhan, Logistics Manager Lovemore Banda and Media Manager Darlington Majonga.
The Board also endorsed a succession-planning initiative within the senior men’s set-up, with former Zimbabwe international Chamu Chibhabha, currently Team Manager of the Zimbabwe ‘A’ and Eagles sides, set to understudy Chouhan.
The arrangement is designed to strengthen administrative capacity within the national team structures while providing Chibhabha with valuable experience at the highest level of the game.
The Board also approved a refreshed Senior Men’s Selection Panel, retaining David Mutendera as Convener and appointing former Zimbabwe internationals Hamilton Masakadza and Christopher Mpofu as selectors.
The Board also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Zimbabwe’s player pathway by retaining Elton Chigumbura as Head Coach of the Zimbabwe Under-19 Men’s team.
Former Zimbabwe international Donald Tiripano has been promoted to Assistant Coach (Bowling), joining Batting Coach Remembrance Nyathi, Strength and Conditioning Coach Clemence Rizhibhowa, Physiotherapist Munashe Dengu and Team Manager Frank Mawoza in the Under-19 technical set-up.
The Under-19 Men’s Selection Panel will comprise Convener Jestinos Gwatiringa together with Lesley Makirimani, Brandon Timoni and Tony Mupariwa.
Confirming the appointments, ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said continuity remained a deliberate pillar of the organisation’s high-performance strategy.
“The Board is pleased to endorse these appointments following recommendations from our Cricket Committee,” he said.
“We believe they represent a strong blend of experience, expertise, continuity and fresh perspectives that will help advance our strategic objectives across our national teams and player pathway structures.”
