Zimbabwe’s rich vein of form continued as they dismantled a hapless Hong Kong side by 89 runs at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Hong Kong won the toss and elected to bowl first as they felt the pitch moisture might assist them but Zimbabwe batted well in the front end of their innings.
Hamilton Masakadza had a fine knock of 84 runs which was enough to earn him player of the match as the chevrons scored a modest total of 263 runs.
Hong Kong struggled from the onset as the hosts’ bowlers turned on the screws. All the bowlers chipped in wickets except seam bowler Blessing Muzarambani.
In other matches played on Saturday tournament hot favourites West Indies registered their third win after beating Ireland by a comfortable 52 runs after posting 257/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
West Indies batsman Rovman Powell was named the player of the match after blasting his maiden century off 100 balls. Powell smashed the media centre window on his way to this huge milestone.
Said Powell: “I m delighted to reach my first century its something I always dreamt of as a young boy growing up in West Indies.”
Afghanistan finally got the monkey off their back by beating Nepal by 6 wickets. They chased down 194 easily.
Papua New Guniea struggled with the bat as they perished for 159 runs losing to the Netherlands by 57 runs.
