Here are the 2022 Star FM Gospel Greats Top 50 Songs

The 10th edition of the Star FM Gospel Greats Top 50 songs of 2022 took place yesterday.

Hosted by Yvonne Tivatye the special edition started at 4 pm to 9 pm.

Janet Manyowa took the coveted first place with her track ‘Vaudze’, Minister Mahendere was second with ‘Tangai Neni’ and the third position went to ‘Bvudzi rangu ramera’ by Dorcas Moyo.

Everton Mlalazi‘s ‘Ndokutewera’ and Andrea The Vocalist ft Aubrey Qwana’s Uhambo completed the top Five.

Speaking to Zimbuzz about her win, Janet Manyowa paid tribute to her fellow gospel artists for delivering music that gave glory to God.

“I am grateful to God. I think the Gospel music scene as a whole produced a lot of excellence and songs that are not only musically good this year but gave reverence to God,” she said.

“To be recognised to have the best song of the year in such a time is such an honour.”

The show host Yvonne Tivatye was pleased with the growth of the genre.

“This year the show witnessed massive growth in the country’s gospel music industry evidenced by how two of the top gospel acts in the country Janet Manyowa and Minister Mahendere upped their games.

“The quality of the sound and videos really went a notch higher and the premier gospel show in the country The Gospel Greats is so proud to be associated with such greatness,” said Yvonne Tivatye.

“On the show, we also saw fast-rising musician Everton Mlalazi continue to stand his ground on an upward trajectory. He won awards this year and collaborated with major regional players, and we are proud to have witnessed his growth.”

This year the Gospel Greats celebrated yesteryear musicians through a segment they called Gospel Greats Retro.

“This coming year we will bring current musicians in yet another exciting concept we shall share very soon,” added Yvonne.

Tory Lanez Found Guilty of Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

A Los Angeles jury on Friday found Daystar Peterson, the Canadian rapper better known as Tory Lanez, guilty of shooting a fellow artist, Megan Thee Stallion, in both of her feet following an argument about their romantic entanglements and respective careers in the summer of 2020.

Lanez fired at the Houston hip-hop star after an argument in 2020. The matter became the subject of speculation and gossip on social media and in songs.

Mr. Lanez, 30, was convicted of three felony counts: assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

He faces more than 20 years in prison and could be deported.

Jurors reached a verdict after about seven hours of deliberation across two days, following a trial that lasted nearly two weeks.

Mr. Lanez, who had been free on bail during the trial following a period of house arrest, was immediately taken into custody. Sentencing was scheduled for Jan. 27.

Megan Thee Stallion was not present in court. As the verdict was read, Mr. Lanez appeared motionless and stared straight ahead until his father stood up and began shouting at the judge and prosecutors. “God will judge you,” he said, as bailiffs moved to block his path.

Alex Spiro, a lawyer for Megan Thee Stallion, said in a statement: “The jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for Meg.”

Meet Zim’s Lorren Khumalo, the former nanny of Meghan Markle’s son

Can you imagine receiving a phone call asking you to meet Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to discuss the possibility of working for them as nanny to their new baby? Well, that is exactly what happened to Lorren Khumalo.

“I had this phone call and they were like ‘Prince Harry and Meghan want to see you, they want to talk to you about being a nanny to Archie,” revealed Lorren in the fourth episode of the ‘Harry and Meghan’ Netflix docuseries.

Before working for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Lorren reportedly worked as a nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and then The Portland Hospital as a paediatric nurse. The Portland Hospital is where Meghan Markle gave birth to Archie.

During the Harry & Meghan docuseries episode four, Lorren spoke about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry being very involved parents.

“They were really hands-on parents,” she revealed. “In the morning when he woke up, firstly mum and dad would come in, they would be with their baby, she would feed him and then after that, I’d take over and normally we’d go for a morning walk.”

Lorren Khumalo accompanied Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Archie when the couple embarked on a tour to South Africa, Archie was four months old at the time.

It has since been revealed that there was a dramatic moment when Archie’s nursery caught fire, but luckily he was with Lorren at the time and not in his room which got engulfed in flames.

Although Lorren no longer is employed by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, she was more than happy to talk in the docuseries.

5 Reasons Why We are Attending Janet Manyowa’s A Night of Thanksgiving

Underneath all that glitter, sparkle, and fireworks display that dominate New Year’s celebrations, it’s also a time to thank the creator for giving us another chance at life.

A Night of Thanksgiving concert by Janet Manyowa has been a constant feature on the first of January for a few years now, barring the Covid-19 era.

2023 is no different as the award-winning songstress Janet Manyowa gathers her friends at the immaculate Celebration Centre to thank the lord in music.

The worship event will feature the anointed voices of South African star Dr Tumi, who is returning to the iconic Celebration Centre.

Eminent worshipper Takesure Zamar, generational talent Michael Mahendere, the vocal prowess of Sharon Manyika and your host Janet Manyowa.

With this carefully selected lineup expect to experience prayer in song, anointed worship moments and sets cresting with affirmations that are sure to bounce between the stage and the auditorium.

Here are Five Reasons Why we are attending ANOT 2023 – What to expect

Takesure Zamar

He has one of the strongest voices of his generation of gospel singers. He uses his velvety tone to lead people into the presence of God in a commanding yet tender manner.

Dr Tumi

His is a special calling. Being a practising doctor he administers medicine to both the body and the soul. Blessed with a unique voice that bends and moves easily with such grace

Michael Mahendere

Coming from a legendary gospel music family, his calling was destiny. Minister Mahendere is a generational talent that ministers to the heart and soul.

Sharon Manyika

Sharon Manyika has a well-blended voice. She is blessed with a voice that can move throughout the entirety of her range and between registers with ease and does all of this to the glory of  God.

The Host – Janet Manyowa

For those that didn’t get a chance to attend Wanqoba Concert in Bulawayo, this will be your second shot to experience what the City of Kings experienced in July this year.

Probably the best performance I have witnessed. Her songwriting skills are rare and exceptional. The sincerity in her songs has now birthed all of the masterpieces in her catalogue.

**If ever you needed a reason to attend A Night of Thanksgiving at the Celebration Centre, these five voices are all the 5 reasons you required.

Tickets are going from between $10 and $50 and the event starts at 1500hrs and is set to end around 2100hrs.

Zim Producer Daecolm reunites with Chris Brown on Christmas Song

Accomplished Zimbabwean songwriter and artist Daecolm recently flew into Los Angeles to work with Chris Brown on his recently released It’s Giving Christmas holiday single.

Daecolm was born in Zimbabwe but now lives between London and Los Angeles.

I got to Los Angeles and one of my boys, who I work with mentioned that Chris Brown had an idea for a Christmas single. There had been a few songs already written and some instrumentals on the shortlist,” shared Daecolm about their collaboration.

“I went to the studio and ended up picking a completely different instrumental than what was offered to me and I even sped it up a little, which was a different approach.

“Chris loved it and to my surprise, he was already mixing and mastering it the next day. Things moved so fast after that! Then his team reached out to discuss the business and paperwork.

“Then I see he is already posting about releasing Christmas singles this year and soon after that the single was out as part of his It’s Giving Christmas 2 pack.”

Daecolm will be visiting South Africa and Zimbabwe from December 2022 through to January 2023 and will be available for in-person interviews during this time.

John Chibadura Family vs FIFA World Cup — ZIMURA makes ruling

Following claims by the late John Chibadura‘s family on media platforms that their late father’s song, “Mudiwa Janet” was performed at the FIFA World Cup 2022, The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) has released their findings.

In a statement ZIMURA said the world cup theme did not originate from John Chibadura’s ‘Mudiwa Janet.’

“The research and analysis of both songs has clearly shown that the 2022 FIFA World Cup song did not originate from the late Chibadura’s song ‘Mudiwa Janet’ but rather from a song titled ‘Hayya Hayya (Better Together)’ performed by a number of international artists.,” read the report.

According to ZIMURA, a thorough research and analysis of the songs under comparison were done. The analysis included code sequence, chord progression, melodies and arrangements whilst the research included inputs from music experts.

Experts who conducted the research included Pastor Charles Charamba, leader of The Fishers of Men Band and also a renowned music professional who holds a Bachelor of
Music Degree in Jazz, from the Africa University.

Clive Mono Mukundu, a Zimbabwean music expert with extensive knowledge of music complimented by his Degree in Music Business, Musicology and Technology with the Midlands State University.

Dr Dread, a Cape Town-based renowned music producer with lots of experience covering different genres and sound styles.

ZIMURA’s findings and conclusion were successfully relayed to Isabel Nyamukokoko heir to the late John Chibadura’s Copyright Estate who fully understood and accepted the outcome.

Chibadura’s son, Simba, who took over the reins along with his siblings Knowledge and John Junior had raised complaints in an interview published by H-Metro on 1 December.

“We have listened to the sound with other family members and we were really shocked how it ended up being used without our knowledge,” he told the Tabloid.

“We really suspect it might be someone linked to Gramma Records who might have sold the beat.”
