#DStvTisuMaShark Customer Profile: Priscilla Sadomba

After spending most of her working life in the area of marketing and communications, Priscilla Sadomba of Harare has moved into the field of change management, working with organisations to ensure survival through adaptability.

Priscilla is herself a firm believer in managing change, whether in business or in home life, rather than having change inflict havoc damage on people and organisations that are static.

As a person with drive, ambition and skill, she fits well into the concept of the #TisuMaShark campaign that will unveil people with leadership featuring strongly in their DNA.

“I see myself as being energetic, creative and motivated, loving life and people,” she said.

“I feel I am a natural marketing and communications person who has for the greater part of my life worked in that field. But I recently switched careers partly to rejuvenate my professional path and partly to challenge myself to move into something different.”

Her new role as head of change management in a major financial services company places her in a position to help companies and individuals adapt to the ever-changing and increasingly digitally-driven global environment, something that is essential for their survival.

Priscilla also believes herself to be a keen entrepreneur, a person always ready for new income-generating projects.

“I am a strong believer in diversification of income streams and Zimbabwe is a country that by default allows this entrepreneurial spirit to thrive,” she said.

Home life is focused on her daughter, 17-year-old Anodiwa, who is now studying in France.

“I think my greatest single achievement in life was becoming a mom. Motherhood is truly the best kept secret on earth.,” she said.

“My family unit is small, comprising me and my daughter, as well as our three much-loved dogs, Sparky, Sasha and Bella. I come from a close knit family of three sisters and three half-sisters, with a close extended family as well. My mom is a key part of our family unit.

“We love to host family gatherings such as braais and other social gatherings, and we also enjoy road trips, as well as general travel within and outside Zimbabwe.”

DStv has long been part of Priscilla’s life, having been a subscriber for more than 20 years.

“Let me tell you, DStv is the greatest babysitter ever, for children and adults alike. We once decided to wean ourselves off it in favour of Netflix. We failed.

We lasted all of two whole days before the family resolved to quickly pay for our DStv subscription again.”

Priscilla said popular shows in her household included Blackish, Law and Order Special Victims Unit, Grand Designs, Friends, Girlfriends, Cheaters, My 600-pound Life, Keeping up with the Kardashians, UFC, Battlebots and Jamie Oliver’s 30-minute Meals.

Favoured channels include Lifetime, BET, Trace Africa, CBS Reality, E Entertainment and Comedy Central.

Being digitally-inclined, the MyDStv App is a huge hit with Priscilla, offering great convenience.

“I love being able to pay my subs around the clock and without ever having to go in person to a bank to make a payment,” she said.

Priscilla enjoys the world of information, education and entertainment offered by DStv and takes advantage of that world through her viewing opportunities.

She herself has spent time in the world of entertainment.

She once took her daughter, then aged about 10, to an audition to sing in a stage show featuring the music of Cole Porter, being staged by Harare’s Repertory Players at their Reps Theatre.

Anodiwa was accepted into the show, and Priscilla was persuaded by the director to come into the show, too. She sang in several numbers in the show including a duet with Anodiwa and leading the finale piece involving the whole cast.

More Irish Whiskey please, as the Culture Breaks Boundaries!

The Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards (ZHHA) is the first hip hop awards show in motherland Africa.

This is a remarkably underrated feat considering how other countries like Nigeria and South Africa seem to be dominating this popular culture.

The 11th edition in a row screams of resilience, relent and consistency amid the controversy that looms around matters to do with recognition. This is hip hop.

The genre on the local scene is constantly gaining traction following the adoption of a culture to the family of big egos. The institution through the Chief Executive Officer, Beefy Harrison, hosted a media launch in the cultural city, Bulawayo last month.

Below are major talking points from the event.

For a second year running Pogues, the Irish Whiskey will be the coolant to such a heated event.

The Pogues press release highlighted their commitment towards the uplifting of African hip hop and outlined their faith in Zimbabwean young musicians.

This year’s ceremony will again be dubbed The Pogues Zim Hip Hop Awards 2021 11th Edition.

The theme Culture Breaking Boundaries is inspired by many strides made in the past year, perhaps beyond, of the genre reaching new audiences and adding a voice in society.

Tunecore has also partnered the institution and they also reinstated their commitment in assisting hip hop artists in distributing their music.

They stressed the challenges faced by modern day artists and pledged their services towards mitigating them.Tunecore distributes music to over 150 channels which in turn gives an artist a chance of growth and wider reach for their music.

Thorne Laroq was announced as the new Head of Operations for the ZHHA. He is a well-travelled hip hop artist and promoter whose vast experience will forward the culture in tapping new grounds.

It is highly plausible that the institution continues to invest within its own vicinity.

Submission which was done virtually ended on 30 October and nominees will be announced on the 12th of November.

This year’s awards show will be held in Harare on the 11th of December. There will be 24 categories up for contention.

Mountaineers, Tuskers record Logan Cup victories

Left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza played the major part in wrapping up the match at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, as Mountaineers completed a fine victory over Logan Cup leaders Alliance Health Eagles by 120 runs.

His fine bowling accounted for six of the Eagles wickets, and altogether he took a haul of 10 wickets in the match.

Eagles began the day at 51 for two wickets, with Chamu Chibhabha on five and the night-watchman Brighton Zhawi on two.

They quickly suffered a major setback when Chibhabha (13) drove a ball from Tendai Chatara uppishly towards mid-off, where Donald Tiripano held a good catch to make Eagles 59 for three wickets.

Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, who retired hurt yesterday evening, now returned to the crease to continue his innings on 28, but he did not last very long, being out to a simple return catch to Chatara when he had reached 37; 71 for four wickets.

Much depended on the experienced Regis Chakabva, who came in next to join the night-watchman, who played a very solid supporting role.

However, Zhawi’s fine effort came to an end at 82 for five, when he was bowled by Masakadza for 10 runs off 53 balls.

Tino Mutombodzi did not last long, as he fell to a brilliant diving catch by Kevin Kasuza at cover point off Masakadza for four, making the score 94 for six wickets.

Victory looked far distant for Eagles now, but as long as two fine batsmen in Chakabva and Wessly Madhevere were together, they still had hope.

The pair put on 24 runs, but then Donald Tiripano, after scoring so many runs, now took his first wicket of the match, bowling Chakabva out for 18.

Keith Jaure did not score, hitting a ball from Masakadza to Kasuza at midwicket for an easy catch, and at lunch Eagles were almost on the brink of defeat at 133 for eight – Madhevere had 27 and Tapiwa Mufudza four.

After lunch Mufudza was superbly caught at long-off by Tiripano off Masakadza for 10, making the score 141 for nine.

With the last man Honest Ziwira at the crease, Madhevere hit out in desperation, scoring two successive fours in Masakadza’s next over before edging the next ball to first slip, where Timycen Maruma held the catch and brought the match to an end at 151 all out.

Masakadza took six wickets for 41 in the innings with his fine bowling, the best figures of his first-class career, and 10 for 98 in the match, and shares the match honours with Tiripano for his outstanding batting in both innings.

The bottom team in the Logan Cup table has now defeated the top team, as Mountaineers gain their first points of the season, while Eagles fail to win for the first time.

Mountaineers – 330 and 149 all out in 58.1 overs (Donald Tiripano 33, Timycen Maruma 22, Wellington Masakadza 22; Tapiwa Mufudza 5/66, Keith Jaure 2/18, Brighton Zhawi 2/25)

Alliance Health Eagles – 208 and 151 all out in 45.4 overs (Wessly Madhevere 39, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe 37, Regis Chakabva 18; Wellington Masakadza 6/41, Tendai Chatara 2/37, Donald Tiripano 1/13)

Mountaineers won by 120 runs

A fine determined sixth-wicket partnership of 48 unbroken between Milton Shumba and Clive Madande took Tuskers through to a five-wicket victory over Rhinos at Old Hararians on Saturday.

It was a day of much tension and Tuskers could not be sure of victory until the last few minutes, when the cool heads and skilful batsmanship of this pair took them home.

Overnight Rhinos were 281 for eight wickets, with Nyasha Mayavo on 49 and Brandon Mavuta four, 147 runs ahead of Tuskers.

Mayavo soon obtained the single he needed to record his fifty, which came off 106 balls.

Both batsmen played good positive cricket and the score mounted steadily, until at 315 Mavuta (22) was caught by Craig Ervine off the bowling of Shumba; 315 for nine.

The last man, Tafara Chingwara, did a noble job, holding his end up and not trying to score while Mayavo tried to get as many runs as he could for his side and neared his century.

They put on 27 runs for the last wicket before Mayavo was dismissed lbw to Shumba for 92, scored off 164 balls with 11 fours.

The total was 342 and Tuskers were set 209 runs to win the match.

Eight overs were possible before lunch, and Tanu Makoni (4) and Nkosana Mpofu (9) played steadily to put 15 runs on the board without loss.

The first ball after lunch proved fatal to Mpofu, however, as he was out caught by Takudzwanashe Kaitano off Carl Mumba.

Ervine came in, and with Makoni adopted a policy of steady play, no risks, waiting patiently for the right balls to score from, and it worked well.

By tea they had taken the score to 101 without any further wickets – Makoni had 34 and Ervine 48, both playing a very wise game.

The tea interval did Makoni no good, however, as he added only a single before he hit a return catch to Charles Kunje, the partnership having added an invaluable 89.

Ervine then completed his fifty, off 96 balls, as he was joined by Brian Chari, but had only reached 53 when he too fell, caught by Tarisai Musakanda off the surprise ‘demon bowler’ Kunje.

At 109 for three and Ervine gone, the match was very much now in the balance, with Chari and Shumba at the crease.

The partnership began to develop, helped by some rather poor bowling that gave away a considerable number of extras.

They took the score to 151, when Chari was caught off Mavuta for 18 after a partnership of 42.

Allan Chigoma came in, played carefully to score four runs off 13 balls, and was then caught off Mavuta at 162 for five – 47 needed with five wickets left.

Madande, in next, again did the right job for his team, pushing mainly for singles in support of Shumba, and slowly the Tuskers victory became more assured.

Madande, as he grew in confidence, hit Johnathan Campbell for four to bring up the 200, and then hit the next ball for four as well.

Then in the next over Shumba hit Mavuta’s first ball for four, and the match was over, with the pair having completed the job.

Shumba finished with 39 and Madande 26.

For the bowlers, there were two wickets each for Mavuta and Kunje.

Rhinos – 229 and 342 all out in 102 overs (Takudzwanashe Kaitano 105, Nyasha Mayavo 92, Tarisai Musakanda 53; Ainsley Ndlovu 4/73, Ernest Masuku 3/77, Milton Shumba 2/40)

Tuskers – 363 and 210-5 in 58.1 overs (Craig Ervine 53, Milton Shumba 39*, Tanunurwa Makoni 35; Charles Kunje 2/13, Brandon Mavuta 2/51, Carl Mumba 1/35)

Mufudza’s five-wicket haul keeps Eagles in the game

Fine bowling by the off-spinner Tapiwa Mufudza, who took five Mountaineers wickets for 66 runs and helped to bring about another batting collapse, kept Alliance Health Eagles in the game at Harare Sports Club on Friday and gave them a chance of victory with a target of 272 runs in the final innings.

At the close of play Eagles had scored 51 for two wickets.

Eagles began the third day at 172 for six wickets, still 158 runs behind on the first innings, with Wessly Madhevere on 35 and Keith Jaure 25.

Victor Nyauchi struck almost immediately, bowling Jaure for 26 after the addition of

two runs to the total, and one run later Madhevere (36) chipped an easy catch straight to square leg off Tendai Chatara.

Chatara also removed Honest Ziwira for two, but the last pair of Mufudza and Brighton Zhawi put up a fight to add 30 runs together before the last wicket fell at 208, a deficit of 122.

Mufudza was bowled by Wellington Masakadza for 12, while Zhawi, who had the temerity to hit Chatara for six, was not out with 18.

Chatara finished with four wickets for 64 runs, while Masakadza had four for 57, Nyauchi taking the other two wickets.

Mountaineers, batting again, soon lost the wicket of Baxon Gopito, out to a simple catch at the wicket off Zhawi for two with the total nine.

Zhawi struck again three runs later, as he bowled Kevin Kasuza for six.

At lunch PJ Moor was not out with 19, partnered by Timycen Maruma with five, of a score of 36 for two wickets.

Mufudza struck after lunch, as he bowled Moor without addition to his 19; 38 for three.

For a while Maruma and Tony Munyonga stayed together, taking the score to 69 before disaster again struck.

Maruma was caught at the wicket off Mufudza for 22, Munyonga was also taken by Chakabva for 15 and Joylord Gumbie was bowled by Jaure without scoring.

In the first innings Mountaineers were 80 for six wickets – this time they were 74 for six, and Donald Tiripano and Masakadza found themselves together again trying to repair the damage.

They began their second rescue operation well, taking the score to 101 for six at tea, when Tiripano had 16 and Masakadza 12.

After tea, though, Masakadza fell to a sharp return catch by Mufudza for 22, with the score now 120 for seven.

Now Nyauchi had to try and reproduce the success of his first innings, but Mufudza struck again in his next over, as Tiripano tried a lofted drive only to hit a catch straight to the long-off fielder, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe.

His 33 was again the highest score of the innings, and Mountaineers’ second innings now appeared doomed at 131 for eight.

Without addition Nyauchi was lbw to Madhevere for two.

The last pair of Chatara, 13 before skying a catch to cover, and Brighton Chipungu, five not out, fought hard to add 18 runs, but the innings closed at 149.

Mufudza did a fine job with the ball, taking five wickets for 66 runs, while Jaure and Zhawi took two cheap wickets each to help skittle out the early batsmen.

Eagles therefore need 272 runs to win, and the poor Mountaineers batting has given them a chance of victory tomorrow.

Kamunhukamwe was promoted to open the innings with Kudzai Maunze, and they made a brisk start, putting on 26 runs in four overs before Maunze fell lbw to Nyauchi for 12.

Gareth Chirawu made four runs before he was caught at first slip by Maruma off Masakadza, to make the score 38 for two wickets.

Zhawi came in as night-watchman, but the situation became awkward for Eagles when Kamunhukamwe had to retire hurt with his score on 28 and the total 44.

The captain, Chamu Chibhabha, came in himself and hit a four, and at the close Eagles were 51 for two, with Chibhabha on five and Zhawi two.

This sets the stage for what could be an exciting finish tomorrow.

Mountaineers – 330 and 149 all out in 58.1 overs (Donald Tiripano 33, Timycen Maruma 22, Wellington Masakadza 22; Tapiwa Mufudza 5/66, Keith Jaure 2/18, Brighton Zhawi 2/25)

Alliance Health Eagles – 208 and 51-2 in 13 overs (Tinashe Kamunhukamwe 28, Kudzai Maunze 12, Chamu Chibhabha 5*; Wellington Masakadza 1/3, Victor Nyauchi 1/19)

Day 3 – Stumps: Alliance Health Eagles need 221 runs

Shumba, Makoni, Ndlovu score fifties as Tuskers survive wobble

A fine innings of 90 from Milton Shumba, with excellent support from Ainsley Ndlovu and Steve Chimhamhiwa, rescued Tuskers from a slump and brought them an impressive lead of 132 runs, with a wicket in hand, by the close of play at Old Hararians Sports Club on Thursday.

The overnight score for Tuskers was one run for one wicket, the run having been scored by Tanu Makoni, his partner being Craig Ervine.

Makoni from the start showed the same confidence and form he had shown when he scored his maiden first-class century against Southern Rocks last weekend, but Ervine did not last long, being caught at the wicket off Carl Mumba for eight.

Brian Chari came in and played rather a cautious game on the whole while Makoni continued to dominate the bowling.

By lunch they had taken the score to 116 for two wickets, of which Makoni had scored 74 and Chari 25.

Soon after the break, though, Makoni fell to a catch by Nyasha Mayavo at the wicket off the bowling of Johnathan Campbell for 83; 137 for three.

Two runs later he was followed back to the pavilion by Chari, out to a return catch by Brandon Mavuta for 36.

Shumba was in now, but there was little proven batting to follow.

With Allan Chigoma caught off Mavuta for three, and Clive Madande and Ernest Masuku both caught off Campbell for 10, the score slumped to 173 for seven.

However, Ndlovu finally displayed some prowess with the bat at first-class level, as he came in and attacked the bowling with gusto, and with such success that by the tea interval he had actually overtaken his illustrious partner.

Tuskers at the interval were 223 for seven wickets, with Shumba on 35 and Ndlovu 38.

After tea Tuskers went into the lead, and Ndlovu galloped to his first-ever fifty in first-class cricket, off 64 balls.

The pair put up 107 for the eighth wicket, turning the game around, before Mavuta broke the stand with a successful lbw appeal against Ndlovu, who had made 61 off 86 balls; 280 for eight.

Chimhamhiwa provided more good support for Shumba and they took the score past 300.

This wicket added 74, taking the score to 354 before Shumba, on 90, was caught off Trevor Gwandu.

When bad light stopped play Tuskers had reached 361 for nine wickets, with Chimhamhiwa on 35 and Charlton Tshuma on four, a lead of 132 runs over Rhinos.

Tiripano leads Mountaineers recovery with fighting fifty

A fighting innings of 76 not out from Donald Tiripano, aided by Wellington Masakadza and Victor Nyauchi, enabled Mountaineers to recover from the precarious position of 80 for six wickets on the first day of their Logan Cup match against Alliance Health Eagles at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday.

Mountaineers – 232-7 in 86 overs (Donald Tiripano 76*, Wellington Masakadza 48, PJ Moor 41; Keith Jaure 3/31, Chamu Chibhabha 1/14, Wessly Madhevere 1/18)

Alliance Health Eagles –

Day 1 – Stumps

By the close, the score was looking much happier for the Mutare-based team at 232 for seven wickets.

Once again Eagles won the toss at Harare Sports Club and put their opponents in to bat.

Keith Jaure soon had Mountaineers in trouble, bowling out both openers in his first and third overs for 11 runs on the board: Kevin Kasuza second ball without scoring and Baxon Gopito for five.

However PJ Moor, now playing for his fourth province, showed good form and steadied the innings, along with Timycen Maruma, and the pair put on 55 runs for the third wicket.

Then Eagles struck back just before lunch, as Chamu Chibhabha trapped Moor lbw for 41 and then in his first over Tapiwa Mufudza had Maruma superbly caught by Wessly Madhevere off a skyer to midwicket for 18.

Mountaineers thus went in to lunch on 67 for four wickets and in some trouble.

The situation worsened for them after the break, as they quickly lost Tony Munyonga for five, a great catch by the wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva diving to his right off Jaure, followed by the run-out of Joylord Gumbie (7) by Madhevere; six wickets down for 80.

Then at last came a determined fightback, as Tiripano and Masakadza put their heads down and worked hard for their runs.

They survived until the tea interval arrived at 147 for six wickets, when the partnership was worth 67, Tiripano having 28 and Masakadza 34.

They took their partnership to 92 before Masakadza was bowled by Madhevere just short of his fifty – he scored 48, including seven boundaries, off 117 balls – and his dismissal left Mountaineers on 172 for seven.

Tiripano did reach his fifty successfully, with Nyauchi providing solid support at the other end.

The score reached 199 for seven wickets before the umpires took the players off the field due to bad light, with Tiripano on 58 and Nyauchi eight.

They soon resumed, but in the end bad light ended play for the day – however, it had not affected the batsmen who were still there.

Tomorrow, Tiripano will resume his innings on 76 and Nyauchi, a much improved batsman this season, on 23, with their partnership now worth 60 runs.

Multichoice Launches #Tisumashark Campaign

Among the many DStv customers in Zimbabwe are successful business people, homemakers, sporting and creative personalities, professionals, artisans and people from just about every walk of life, and in coming weeks and months many of them will be profiled in a new awareness campaign being launched by MultiChoice called #TisuMaShark.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the idea behind the campaign is to communicate how we create value for our stakeholders, as well as highlight the diversity and characteristics of our customers, showing how their lives can influence other people for the better and how their successes can be emulated.

“Some years ago Stunner and BaShupi had a hit song called TisuMaShark and the campaign has flowed from this,” she said.

“In our campaign, we are looking to showing how our customers are leaders and people worth emulating, so the campaign pays homage to their ideas, strengths, successes and exemplary lives.”

The profiles will be gentle insights into the people selected, highlighting how DStv has enriched their lives,  what makes them tick and showing how they contribute to families, businesses, communities and the country as a whole.

Some of the profiled people will be known within the wider community, but some may be known only to their families or business circles.

“Although people may think sharks are fearsome beings, it’s not that aspect of these creatures that we are focusing on,” said Ms Dziva.

“They are sharp, savvy, decisive and have many positive characteristics, so it is that highly positive aspect of the shark which we wish to platform through our look at our own ‘Shark Tribe’ in Zimbabwe.

“A print and online campaign will feature regular profiles and this will be sustained so that a variety of people can be platformed, reminding everyone reading them that despite the many challenges of life in general, and the reality of the Covid era in particular, there is in each of us a driver who can lead and a personality who can succeed. We wish for #TisuMaShark to be inspiring and positive.”
