Jackie Ngarande unveiled as Brand Ambassador for The Single Mother Foundation

Philanthropist and supermodel Jackie Tinovimbika Ngarande was over the weekend officially unveiled as the brand ambassador for The Single Mother Foundation.

The Single Mother Foundation is a non-profit organisation whose obligation is to equip, empower, educate, encourage and promote single mothers and their children to undertake perennial projects which will sustain them and their families.

It was founded by Australian based Flo Matambanadzo in January 2017.

Giving her acceptance speech Ms Ngarande highlighted the need for society to look at single mothers with the respect that they would accord any other person.

She also shared her childhood experience of being raised by a single mother.

“My mother lost her husband, my father when she was only 32 years of age, and it is that upbringing which gave me a first experience at the plight of single mothers,” she said.

“Single mothers generally are more likely to be vulnerable in most aspects of life and they need to be empowered not just for a day for a lifetime if its possible,” she added.

Ngarande who is not new to charity work also assists more than 145 students with school fees through her Jackie Ngarande Foundation Educational Scheme.

In her role as the Single Mother Foundation Ambassador, she will be tasked with identifying empowerment projects for the ladies as well as coming up with strong structures to monitor their progress.

Currently, the foundation is targeting single mothers in Mabvuku and Marondera with plans to expand to other parts as resources allow.

” It is not uncommon that most single mothers are poorer because of various reasons and it is much harder for them to break out of the cycle of poverty so im hoping with my efforts we can assist a few to make something out of life,” she said.

“At the same time, we want to end the stereotyping that these women experience in societies, single mothers are always victimised for not having a husband, be it in church or elsewhere,” added Ms Ngarande
