The Incident a new theatrical performance written by Swedish playwright Joakim Daun and directed by Elizabeth Zaza Muchemwa, premieres at HIFA opening night the Reps Theatre.
Starring American actor Thomas Vilorio and Zimbabwean NAMA nominated actress Charlene Mangweni The Incident tells the story of Monica, a Zimbabwean woman moves to Sweden to pursue her PHD studies.
While in Sweden, she falls in love with Jan, a Swedish headmaster.
Jan helps her feel part of Swedish society and convinces her to follow him when he takes up a new job in small town in South Sweden.
One day at her new job as a secondary teacher she gets into a quarrel with one of her students. The student then makes an allegation against Monica.
As the news of ‘The Incident’ reaches the rest of the school and the people in the small town, the ground under her starts unravel.
The Incident is a love story that makes us look closer at the dichotomy of when outsiders are one of us and when they are not. It allows audiences to reflect over what how far we are willing to go to understand those that are different from ourselves.
Catch it on Wednesday, May 3 at 11:30 am at Reps Theatre Upstairs
