Zimbabwe Fashion Showcase to take place in London in September

UK based clothing tradeshow, Zimbabwe Fashion Showcase has announced the date for the highly anticipated fashion exhibition of the year.

The event, now in its third year, will be held on 29 September in London.

Running under the banner, Zimbabwe 2030 – a glimpse into the future, the event will feature several designers and over 60 different designs.

Founder of Zimbabwe Fashion Showcase Chiedza Ziyambe said she was thrilled to be back for another edition and that the ZFS platform was a great opportunity for rising designers to showcase their designs to buyers, the press and to the public.

This year the event will also feature other African designers who have been invited to showcase their work.

“We are now in our third year and our aim is to continue to promote upcoming designers and celebrate established designers from all over Africa as well,” Chiedza said.

“The emphasis or vision for Zimbabwe Fashion Showcase has always been about recognising and promoting the upcoming designer, giving them a platform to show the world their hard work, their talent and what to expect from them in the future,”

“This year the theme will focus on the future of fashion, particularly what Zimbabwe’s Fashion industry could look like in the next 10 years as seen through this year’s showcasers,” she added.

Ziyambe said that as Zimbabwe goes through a transition, now is the time to get involved and help revive the economy with innovative ideas.

She added that there was a gap for rising designers to contribute immensely to the growth of the industry in the country and encouraged them to be a part of it.

“We want to see what the showcaser’s vision of Zimbabwe looks like in the years to come, interpreted by varying fabrics and ornaments.

We want to be able to see elements that represent the future as bright, refined, and astounding – we want to see clothing that will represent ‘pastures new’.”

First held in 2015, the event highlights emerging African designers in the UK, mainly from Zimbabwe.

It also features a select number of guest designers from Africa and other parts of the world, as well as designers whose work is inspired by African themes.

Over the years, prominent public figures and designers such as New York-based Farai Simoyi and the Mayor of Birmingham have been in attendance.

Upgrade your Levels advises Mariachi in new Song

The Zim hip-hop veteran rapper Mariachi born as David Chitate has found his lines back.

A month ago he released the video to Ngaanake a track which he complimented the beauty of a woman.

Last week he released another track but specifically directed to male party lovers who hate to work and up their game called ‘Malevels.’

On this one, he collaborated his longtime music partners Alkamai and Simz 27.

Produced by Fun-F who delivered a hard-hitting baseline that will undoubtedly get you in the dabbing mood.

‘MaLevels’ encourages gentlemen who ‘love things’ to hustle for the best and upgrade their style.

The track touches on modern societies relationship issues, more so ones of affluence and station.

It playfully brushes on the subject less spoken of publicly but one that bears much weight in every relationship (What are you bringing to the table).

Mariachi is currently working on an album which is still work in progress.

MultiChoice brings the Russian Dream to St Joseph’s Home For Boys

They have no parents and no family. But the beautiful game of soccer gives them a warmth and a hope of one day becoming the big stars on the TV screens.

Football is a big part of the lads at the St Joseph’s Home For Boys and they got a chance to belong to the bigger family of the sport as they too are enjoying the delicacy of Russia.

Located in Belvedere, Harare the St Joseph’s House for Boys, which has a long and successful tradition of providing meaningful support and care for young men who might otherwise find themselves in very unpleasant situations.

Said Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe said they were glad to share the special moment with the young boys

“We at MultiChoice are pleased to present this screening today and we are especially pleased to be able to do so at the St Joseph’s Home For Boys, where we have been given a very warm welcome by the staff and the boys themselves,” she said.

“I hope everyone has an enjoyable afternoon and evening, as we watch the opening ceremony and the first match of the tournament.

“This coverage is of course presented on SuperSport, which gives DStv viewers direct access to all the best sport in the world, 24/7, 365 days a year,” she added.

The forerunner of the home came into being in 1936 as a result of efforts by an Anglican priest, the Reverend O W L Skey, with the first boys staying at his home.

The children were joined by members of the media and artists Picture/Tsitsi Bertha

In 1939 the first St Joseph’s House for Boys opened in what is now Nelson Mandela Avenue, and then the building was erected in 1953, so the home moved to Belvedere.

“MultiChoice Zimbabwe plays an important role in this country, not only representing MultiChoice Africa but also in helping serve the community,” said Liz Dziva.

“I hope that in this and coming years we will be able to support the efforts of the staff here in providing love and care and shelter to these wonderful young men, who are the citizens of tomorrow and some of whom may well be our leaders of tomorrow.”

MultiChoice has provided full Installation for the home to facilitate this broadcast and will also be donating the dish and decoder to the home and providing the home with a complimentary DStv subscription.

“We hope this pleases boys and staff and adds to the access they have to information, education and entertainment,” added Liz Dziva.

Sables disappoint in Africa Gold cup Opener

Zimbabwe rugby team affectionately known as the sables kicked off their 2018 Africa Gold cup with a disappointing 23 all Draw against Morroco at Harare Sports Club.

The host where unconvincing the bulk of the match.

The Sables were quick out of the blocks scoring two quick tries through debutant fullback Shingie Katsvere and where both converted by the mercurial boot of Lenience Tamberwa.

Katsvere rarely put a foot wrong and was one of the outstanding players in a Sables shirt.

Zimbabwe failed to keep their shape and lost a lot of balls in contact. Morroco bullied Sables at the breakdown and inflicted a lot of turnovers.

The common cancer of failing to defend which has been dodging Zimbabwe for years was evident once more as they allowed the visitors back into the match with sloppy defence and missing a lot of tackles.

The North Africans got their first five points through Ismail Nassik and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck through three penalties by Hridouch Chair.

Morroco got their second try courtesy of their lively wing Cadiri Karim.

Sables stayed in the match with Tamberwa kicking as he managed to slot home three penalties.

Zimbabwe almost stole the match at the death but Tamberwa penalty kick was astray ending the match in a stalemate.

Peter Devillers charges now have a mountain to climb now if they are to stand any chance to qualify for the 2019 rugby world cup to be held in Japan.

Sables now have to win all four of their remaining matches and hope other results go in their favour.

World Cup starts with Glitzy Opening Ceremony And a Middle Finger

Robbie Williams got the ball rolling and the crowd pumping at the World Cup with a traditional glitzy opening ceremony in Moscow, though he couldn’t avoid a bit of controversy.

Earlier in the day, the World Cup trophy itself was delivered into the Luzhniki Stadium — where the final will take place in 31 days — by Iker Casillas, a man already well acquainted with the feeling of hoisting it aloft.

As for the ceremony itself, the organisers managed to pack a lot of spectacle into 10 minutes.

First of all, Williams opened up with a rousing rendition of “Let Me Entertain You,” a song which was originally released a year before the 1998 World Cup.

Williams was then joined on the set by Russian opera singer Aida Garifullina, who arrived on the back of a giant fiery eagle.

As Williams and Garifullina continued to warble through the former’s back catalogue, we were also treated to an array of gymnastic tumbling and people twirling about in shiny costumes.

However, Williams couldn’t resist a naughty gesture as the TV cameras zoomed in for a close-up, showing the world his middle finger.

But the song went on, and before long Williams bowed out with a version of that old karaoke staple “Angels” while Ronaldo — the Brazilian, the original, and best — emerged from pitchside.

Indeed, the legendary Brazilian striker came on, dummied a penalty against Zabivaka the dog, the official 2018 World Cup mascot, waved to the crowd and returned from whence he came.

And that, pretty much, was that. At least until broadcasters start to receive complaints by those offended by Williams’ gesture.

Hardly a classic of the genre, but then most World Cup fans couldn’t really care less about what goes on ahead of the first match! ESPN

Soccer Fever: Zim Celebrities pick their Favourite World Cup Teams

FIFA World Cup, the biggest sporting carnival in the world, kick-started yesterday with a traditional glitzy opening ceremony in Moscow.

Football enthusiasts around the world are making special preparations to cheer for their favourite teams and Zim Celebrities are also in on the fun.

The biggest worldwide event held in Vladimir Putin’s Russia began with a contest between the two worst teams in the competition on paper.

But Russia, who were without a victory in seven games, exceeded expectations as they dismantled a hopeless Saudi Arabia defence to win 5-0.

In 2014, 3.2 billion people watched the tournament on TV and football fans have already started adjusting their schedules to enjoy the grand event.

Special screenings are also being organised in sports bars and restaurants in most Zimbabwean cities.

We asked a few of our celebrities to find out which teams they were rooting for. Here is what they had to say.

Tinotenda Kadewere Warriors and Djurgårdens IF (Sweden) Midfielder

Tinotenda Kadewere

I’m running with Brazil in this edition of the world cup and key players to watch out for are the likes of Neymar, Salah if he gets to play considering his injured, Kane as he is my favourite striker and Ronaldo as my all time favourite player

Conrad Mwanawashe – (Actor) Humba in ZTV drama series Wenera

Am rooting for Brazil. I like their style of play, flair and skill. For Brazil, it’s not about power but skill. They have a reputation to repair remember they were beaten 1-7 by Germany in Brazil. So it’s a do or die for the Selecao.

‘Humba’ on set in Wenera

Though recovering from injury, watch out for Neymar. I expect him to shine. Philippe Coutinho is in brilliant form for Barcelona and I’m sure he will be worth watching.

Conrad plays Humba in Wenera, the most educated in the Extension area where he resides at the Blue House. Humba is a workers’ committee chairperson at Wenera Diamonds

Miss V Candy – TV host and Star FM Radio Presenter

Miss V Candy

My pick is and has always been Germany not just because they are the defending champions.

Their fighting spirit and team effort is brilliant, Portugal has Ronaldo, Brazil has Neymar, Argentina has Messi: Germany has a team.

Muller for the goals, he is an outstanding player and goal scorer as well as engine for the team.

P.s all the best to Senegal: Mane for the goals. I’m low-key rooting for Ronaldo

Cindy – Award winning Pop Singer

cindy munyavi

I am running with Portugal mainly because of the winning spirit they displayed during the Euro 2016 final.

I remember how an injured Ronaldo ‘took over’ the coaching role to inspire his teammates. If they go into the filed with the mood of 2016 I think they will do well

Comic Pastor – Comedian

Africa! I am going with Nigeria expecting a win on Croatia and Iceland and a loss to Argentina.

And the Players to look out for obviously Victor Moses, Obi Mikel and Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester

Who are the Hottest Wives & Girlfriends Heading to the World Cup in Russia?

A glittery cavalcade of models, pop stars, and Instagram empresses are set to descend upon Russia with their y-chromosomes in tow.

As the FIFA World Cup kicks off tomorrow many of the top footballers on the planet will be watched from the stands by their wives and girlfriends.

In the old days — before reality TV — footballers’ wives were meek and dowdy matrons who were almost invisible except on the biggest occasions.

But then came Victoria Beckham, Cheryl Cole and Coleen Rooney — wives of England stars David, Ashley and Wayne respectively.

So when the FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 14 the names of the wives and girlfriends (WAGs) of players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Dele Alli trip off the tongue almost as easily as the players themselves.

So to celebrate soccer’s other, better halves, we assembled a not-even-close-to-exhaustive list of the most beautiful WAGs from the 2018 World Cup.

One player whose wife you are unlikely to see in a bikini or a low-cut dress is Liverpool’s Egyptian striking sensation Mo Salah.

He married Magi in 2013 — she wore a modest Muslim-style wedding dress — and his daughter Makka (Mecca) is named after the holy city in Saudi Arabia.

Mo Salah filmed working out hard to recover for Egypt’s World Cup opener

With his participation in the World Cup in Russia called into question after a shoulder injury, Egyptian superstar Mo Salah is working hard to be fit to help his team in the opening match against Uruguay on Friday.

Footage by RT’s Ruplty video agency showed Salah training individually with a physical therapist at the stadium in the Chechen capital, Grozny, which the Egyptian national team chose to base its camp during the tournament.

The workout of the 25-year-old striker included exercises with fit ball and rubber bands, as well as other activities.

Salah, who scored 32 goals in 36 appearances for Liverpool and led his team to the Champions League final this season, is considered the main rival for Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the contest for the title of world’s best footballer.

However, his World Cup dreams were nearly crushed after the Egyptian suffered a shoulder injury in that very final, following what many believe was dirty play by Real Madrid’s defender Sergio Ramos.

Despite his physical problems, Salah has been included in Egypt’s lineup for the Mundial, but it’s currently unclear if he’ll be able to appear in his country’s opening march against Uruguay on June 15 or in the crucial second game against host Russia.

2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Official Song ‘Live It Up’ to be performed by all-star line-up

The most celebrated players in the world of football will be joined in Russia by some of the biggest stars of today’s international music scene.

As part of another exciting collaboration between FIFA and Sony Music, Will Smith, Nicky Jam and Era Istrefi will perform ‘Live It Up’, the Official Song of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia produced by DJ and songwriter Diplo.

Ahead of the final on 15 July, the music stars will warm up the 80,000 spectators at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium and around one billion people watching on TV just a few minutes before the two finalists come out on to the pitch.

Until then, fans will have enough time to learn the lyrics as “Live It Up” will be released on multiple streaming platforms this Friday, 25 May. The FIFA World Cup Official Music Video will be available as of 7 June.

“It’s an honour to be asked to perform at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This global event brings people from all over the world together to cheer, laugh and experience magic.

Collaborating with Nicky, Diplo and Era on this track represents harmony, eclectic flavours and genres coming together.

At the end of the day, we just want to see the world dance”, said world-renowned Grammy Award-winning actor, songwriter and artist Will Smith.

“I’ve never made a song this international, so many stars have come together to make a strong vibe”, Diplo added.

“To record the Official Song for the FIFA World Cup is a lifetime achievement. Not many artists have the privilege of being able to say they’ve been part of this.

I’m so proud and happy, I can say to my grandkids ‘I’ve made it’,” commented Nicky Jam, one of Latin music’s most iconic names and a Latin Grammy Award winner.

“Being part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Official Song has been an incredible and exciting experience so far.

Making the FIFA World Cup Song -Will Smith, Nicky Jam, Diplo & Era Istrefi

Working alongside talented artists like Diplo, Will Smith and Nicky Jam, who I all have huge admiration for, has been amazing and so much fun.

I’m a huge football fan too, so I can’t wait for the World Cup to begin,” noted rising pop sensation Era Istrefi.

The tradition of an Official Song dates back to the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England with a song for the first Official Mascot, “World Cup Willie”.

Since then, the Official Music Programme and the Official Mascot have become a more and more significant component of the event, providing an excellent opportunity for more than just football fans to identify with the world’s biggest single-sport event.

“FIFA and Sony Music have enjoyed a successful cooperation on the Official Music Programme for years now.

The synergy between football and music is striking, both stirring up fans’ emotions across the globe.

This song – with a world -class line-up worthy of the greatest show on Earth – embodies the excitement, the celebration and the unity that people all over the world will share during the 2018 FIFA World Cup,” says Philippe Le Floc’h, FIFA Chief Commercial Officer.

“Sony Music has had a longstanding relationship with FIFA. When discussing the official music for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the objective that both organisations agreed on was a great song supported by an all-star line-up,” added Afo Verde, Chairman & CEO of Sony Music Latin Iberia.

“We are very excited that Will Smith, Nicky Jam, Diplo and Era Istrefi are part of the song and working hand in hand with FIFA and our artist community in providing the soundtrack for the biggest event in the world.”

Official Songs at recent FIFA World Cups have included ‘Un’estate italiana’ by Edoardo Bennato and Gianna Nannini in 1990, ‘Gloryland’ by Daryl Hall with Sounds of Blackness in 1994, and ‘La Copa de la Vida’ by Ricky Martin in 1998.

In 2002, the Official Song was “Boom” by Anastacia, while Vangelis’ vocal official anthem featured typical Korean and Japanese sonic elements.

In 2006, ‘The Time of Our Lives’ by the Il Divo quartet was a resounding success.

Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’ was the Official Song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and, most recently, ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ was the Official Song of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil.
