Four Goals, One assist – The Magic of Mo Salah

Mohamed Salah hit four goals and created the other to make history in Liverpool’s 5-0 rout against Watford as snow fell at Anfield.

The conditions could not stop the man who has now scored more times in a debut season – 36 – than any other player in Reds history.

The Egyptian was in superlative form as he took his tally for the season so far to 36 in all competitions and moved four clear ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.

Salah opened the scoring after just four minutes as snow fell inside Anfield, twisting beyond Miguel Britos before stabbing home to set the Reds on their way to a commanding triumph.

His second – arriving just before half-time – owed much to Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson’s combination down the left, resulting in the latter crossing for the No.11 to tap in.

Salah then set up Roberto Firmino for a third just after half-time, before he completed his hat-trick with a brilliant solo goal as he bewildered a collection of Hornets defenders inside the area.

The forward slammed in his fourth and Liverpool’s fifth late on and afterwards, Klopp was naturally effusive in praise for his endeavours.

The manager told his post-match press conference: “You can ask about him, but he gave the answer already! He gave it with four goals and if the question is what do I think about that, I think it’s quite exceptional.

“It was another good performance in a very difficult game in a very impressive manner, coping and dealing with difficult conditions tonight. The whole team did, of course, but around the first goal I would say Mo especially because it was obviously slippery, so everybody suffered – but not Mo in that situation. It was really special scoring that goal.

“The second goal, a fantastic pass from Sadio to Robbo, a fantastic cross and great sprint. Third goal, fantastic situation, Mo and then Roberto. Fourth and fifth goals were outstanding, so that’s all you need to be on the highest level.

“I am really happy about the result, of course, but also the performance because I knew after we made the analysis of the last Watford game, against Arsenal, how difficult it can be [to play them].

They lost that game 3-0 but it was so close, football games can go like this, but in the end we really saw what could happen tonight if we let them do what they wanted to do. And we didn’t in very difficult circumstances, so I’m really happy.”

In front of 7,500 noisy and celebrating spectators, Zimbabwe looked dead and buried when they slipped to 139 for seven in the 34th over after being sent into bat, before Sikandar Raza’s undefeated 69 lifted them to 211 for nine.

Left-arm spinner Tendai Chisoro then followed up his 21 with the bat to pick off three frontline batsmen as Ireland slipped to 54 for five, before Graeme Cremer ran through the middle and lower-order with three for 18 as the 2009 qualifier champions were dismissed for 104.

The victory helped Zimbabwe join Scotland on five points and ahead in first place on net run-rate, while Ireland were left with two points in fourth position.

Both sides have two matches remaining, with Zimbabwe to square off against the Windies and the United Arab Emirates on 19 and 22 March, respectively, while Ireland have tricky matches against Scotland and Afghanistan on 18 and 23 March, respectively.

The top two sides from this tournament will qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which will be held in England and Wales from 30 May to 14 July.

A selection of Super Six matches including the final will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

The West Indies and Scotland are in prime position to make the 2019 cricket showpiece event in England and Wales as they occupy first and second spot respectively on the table by the points gained in the group stages against nations who have also progressed to this round.

The group stage results between nations who progress beyond the group stages are carried forward to the Super Six round, with the points gained against nations who failed to progress beyond the group stages falling away.

Each team will then play the qualifiers from the other group.

The top two teams at the end of the Super Six stage earn qualification to the world cup and contest a final to determine the winner of the tournament.

Zimbabwe and Ireland are hot on the heels of the West Indies and Ireland, and it’s going to be a four-way battle as to which two nations make the world cup.

26-year-old Adam Chicksen was signed by Bradford City in the summer of 2017 but is no stranger to  Sky Bet League One, but here are some facts to help fans get to know him a little bit better.

Chicksen made his professional debut aged just 16 while at Milton Keynes Dons.

He became the first player from the Milton Keynes area to represent the Dons.

The defender has already played at the Northern Commercials Stadium for three separate clubs – Gillingham, Fleetwood Town and Charlton Athletic.

Along with loan spells with Gillingham and Fleetwood, Chicksen has also played on loan at Leyton Orient during his time at Brighton.

He played twenty-five times for Charlton Athletic last season, scoring in the Addick’s impressive 5-1 victory at Bristol Rovers.

Chicksen is of English, Zimbabwean and Chinese descent. Chicksen’s mother is English and his father is from Zimbabwe and Chinese heritage.

Chicksen has played in the Sky Bet Championship and League One Play-Offs during his career so far.

His birthday is 27 September 1991.

‘A team full of strangers’: Rio Ferdinand blasts Man United after embarrassing defeat

Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice in quick succession to earn Sevilla a famous win against Manchester United and a place in the UEFA champions league quarter-finals.

Former defender Rio Ferdinand reacted angrily by labelling the team a bunch of strangers following the shock defeat.

“They looked like a team thrown together, full of strangers,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“They played with nerves, they played cautiously. In these games you’ve got to take it by the scruff of the kneck.

“That takes character, that takes personality. You’ve got to give the fans something to chant about. This stadium was quiet and that is down to the players.”

Sevilla are through to only their second ever European Cup quarter-final after a 2-1 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The tie remained goalless until deep into the second half of the second leg, Wissam Ben Yedder breaking the deadlock with a precise finish just two minutes after coming off the bench.

The Sevilla substitute then squeezed a header past David de Gea and under the crossbar moments later to leave United with too much to do.

Though Romelu Lukaku pulled one back for the hosts to prompt a brief flurry of pressure, it was too late. De Gea denied Ben Yedder a hat-trick when clean through in added time but it did little to dampen Sevilla’s celebrations. They’d waited 60 years for this.

Key stats

Sevilla’s only previous quarter-final, in 1958, ended in a 10-2 defeat by Real Madrid

Ben Yedder has now scored eight goals in seven #UCL games this term

This was United’s first home loss in Europe since Sir Alex Ferguson’s last #UCL fixture

United have not failed to score in both legs of a European tie since the 2004/05 last 16

Latest on Hardlife Zvirekwi’s Accident (pictures)

Caps United captain Hardlife Zvirekwi has had his lower part of his hand amputated following a horrific car accident Monday morning.

He was coming from a birthday celebration of his friend Vokal Bakasa at the Motor Action Sports Club in Eastlea.

Speaking to Zimbuzz Sports, a close family friend said the player was doing ok despite the tragic loss of his hand.

“Hardy is definitely devasted with what happened but he seems to have accepted it after realising that the car crash could have been fatal, he is doing ok and already looking forward to returning to the pitch if he gets better,” revealed the source.

Meanwhile Caps United have recalled their reject player Oscar Machapa to the club to fill in the vacant position left by Hardlife Zvirekwi.

Indications are that Zvirekwi might be out of action for some time, probably the rest of the season.

Midem and Trace to Launch First African Music Forum

Midem, home to the global music community, has announced the launch of its High-Potential Markets Programme designed to assist music professionals from around the world by encouraging business development and the discovery of new talent.

Yemi Alade Picture-Instagram

The new initiative aims to foster bilateral exchanges between international and national music executives and sectors in order to facilitate the structuring and professionalization of the high-potential markets.

In 2018, the new Programme will focus on the African music industry with a four-day ‘African Forum’ during Midem (June 5-8 in Cannes).

The forum will be preceded by a series of industry meetings across four African countries, to support the structuring of the African music industry, stimulate discussions between African and international music stakeholders, develop sustainable business models for African labels and artists in order to boost African music on a local and international scale.

“Africa has incredible wealth in terms of musical talent and diversity of musical styles but the continent currently represents just 2% of the world music market, ” comments Alexandre Deniot, Director of Midem.

“As the home of the global music community, Midem is committed to supporting the development of the international music sector and that includes providing African artists and music companies with a platform to reach more fans and generate new revenues. We look forward to welcoming them to Midem in 2018 and beyond.”

The African Forum is organised by Midem in association with TRACE, the leading pan-African music media network.

“By partnering with Midem on the African Forum, we bring together Midem’s power as an international music business acceleration platform, with our expertise in afro urban music, along with our local knowledge and excellent relationship with our subscribers in Africa, at the service of promoting African talent and providing creative solutions to improve its local and international development,” notes Olivier Laouchez, CEO, Trace.

The African Forum, running throughout Midem, will host high-level discussions involving African and international music industry leaders, politicians and official institutions. In addition, it will provide a platform to promote African musical creativity, a Midem Night dedicated to African music and opportunities to share knowledge and professional training.

“It is such an exciting time to be an artist and especially in Africa, where there are so many talented and creative musicians who are breaking boundaries and whose music travels throughout the world,” says Yemi Alade, Nigerian Afropop megastar, whose single ‘Johnny’ has set a new record for over 85 million views on YouTube, making it the most-watched video from an African artist.

“However there are still many challenges and, to take it to the next level, we need to come together and work on strengthening and structuring of our music business in Africa.

I’m very pleased to be part of the Midem African Forum and hope that sharing my experience as an artist will highlight the immense opportunities for African artists, not only in the continent but globally,” adds the multi-award winning artist and fashion designer.

Alongside the African Forum in June, Midem is organising local meetings in the Ivory Coast, Nigeria, South Africa and the Republic of the Congo.

Taking place from April 4 to April 12, this series of one-day events will bring together African and international music professionals for meetings, conference debates, workshops and live showcases.

Attendees will include labels, mobile operators, rights collection companies, streaming platforms, music publishers, artists, media, politicians, influencers and professional associations and institutions.

Afghanistan also qualified to the super 6 with the assistance of Nepal who beat Hong Kong by 5 wickets after chasing down a target of 153  runs.

Ireland booked their super 6 ticket by making light work of the United Arab Emirates beating them by 226 runs (Duckworth Lewis Method ).

The Irish posted 313/6 while UAE never got going as they were bowled out cheaply for 91. Despite the loss, the boys from the gulf managed to make it to the super 6.

Winky D disappoints the Angels with Ngirozi Video

Zimbabwe dancehall superstar Winky D has released the video to the touching song Ngirozi but the artist has disappointed again.

But it won’t be the first time he has done harm to his big songs, remember the dololo video to Disappear?

For a song that involves angels, one would have expected a little more effort than the weak delivery by the Gaffa.

The video lacks everything: Poor script, poor cinematography, poor casting, poor location, poor creativity, there was no effort at all to match his stardom.

Basically, its something one can do with a smartphone and a 5 minute YouTube editing tutorial.

This video settles the debate of who is the King Winky D or Jah Prayzah, for the Gombwe it’s a clear indication that he has accepted his fate and has relegated himself to be a local artist with no appetite to penetrate the continent.

Here are some comments on the video

Billym T Machngra mavideo anokuremerai Biggie, song is too good but the video is dissapointing…try get advise from Jah P and Freeman Biggie

Ray Ray : i like the song..the video is too ordinary..i prefer that musarova bigman and controversy medley
