President ED, Trevor Noah only Africans on Time Mag’s 100 Most Influential People

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been listed on the Time Magazine 100 Most Influential People, featuring some of the most well-known artists, politicians and world leaders.

US-based South African comedian Trevor Noah is the other African to make it on the list which also includes Hollywood A-listers RihannaJennifer Lopez, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, Cardi B, Nicole Kidman, Meghan Markle, who is set to marry Prince Harry next month.

Political figures such as President Donald TrumpBarack ObamaJeff SessionsRobert Mueller and Kim Jong Un were also named on the list.

The list is split into pioneers, artists, leaders, and icons and The TIME 100 list features individuals recognised for changing the world, regardless of the consequences of their actions.

Individuals or a group of people are exclusively chosen by TIME editors with nominations coming from the TIME 100 alumni and the magazine’s international writing staff.

Each entrant has a short write-up written by an equally prominent individual, describing what makes them influential.

President Mnangagwa is listed in the leaders category, with the write-up on him by Zimbabwean Pastor and activist, Evan Mawarire.

Writes Pastor Evan of President ED:

The elation that greeted the end of Robert Mugabe’s 37-year reign naturally enough transformed into hopes for his successor.

And in his first 100 days, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa spoke of re-engaging, forgiveness, democracy and unity.

But though words matter, so does the survival of a system that destroyed the hopes and dreams of generations.

For four decades, Zimbabwe’s new President was the protégé of the dictator he eventually deposed. Mnangagwa says very little of his own volition. He waits for you to speak and only responds when absolutely necessary.

As Mugabe learned, he is extremely patient, choosing his moments of response or retaliation carefully.

Mugabe described him as a man who does not forgive or forget very easily. Maybe that’s why for years, Mnangagwa has kept his liberation war nickname, the Crocodile.

The undeniable paradox of Zimbabwe’s moment of healing is that the doctor was once the butcher.

Mae Sithole is a Pan-Africanist singer and songwriter, born in Zimbabwe, with an international upbringing.

Her passion is to make music that paints a colourful picture through each note. She has performed with many bands and worked with award-winning producers in developing her uniquely crafted sound.

In association with Concerts SA, Mae’s soulful and funky band are looking forward to playing tracks from their new studio project, Visions, (released in February 2018) to Zimbabwean audiences.

The album was produced by Andrew Baird (Orangotang Records) and offers listeners an experience not to be missed.

In addition to the premiere of Visions, the performances of Mae Sithole Band will also include tracks from Mae’s debut album, First Glance.

Their Afro-fusion sound with elements of mbira, hepi drum, bass and drum kit hypnotises listeners as Mae and her sister Sam interlock their vocals with the melodies of each tune.

This female vocal section is instrumentally supported by a solid band comprised of Dylan Fine on lead guitar, Daniel Abeka on drums, Takalani Tshikovhi on keys and Khwezi Ziqubu on bass guitar.

Mae says: “It means a lot to me to be able to travel with our band to my hometown for this exciting festival.

Zimbabwe has many treasures and HIFA is definitely one of them. It’s an honour to perform at HIFA once again, after so many years.

It feels like a full circle for me. What’s even more special is the chance to share the stage with my friends and band members who bring so much life, colour and charisma to our performances. That gives me goosebumps when I think about it.”

Mae Sithole lives in Vredehoek at the foot of Table Mountain. The daughter of diplomats, she has travelled the world and holds a Masters in Philosophy from the University of Cape Town.

By day, she works as a programme officer for Building Bridges, a key pillar within the Graduate School of Development Policy and Practice, and is also working on her PhD on Leadership in Zimbabwe.

Heartbreaking!! John Cena and Nikki Bella Have Split Up

Wrestling superstars John Cena and Nikki Bella have ended their engagement just weeks before they were set to tie the knot.

The couple called off their engagement exactly 20 days before their wedding. Cena and Bella got engaged at Wrestlemania last April.

They announced their split on Sunday after being together for six years. There are plenty of rumours about why it happened, but the evidence that the relationship wasn’t quite right was there from the start.

Before Nikki could move in with John, he asked her to sign a document with some ground rules. Said document was a whopping 75 pages long.

One of the requirements was that Nikki had to vacate their home immediately if they broke up.

Cena proposing. Picture/WWE

Although Cena, 40, admitted in the past that he didn’t want to get married again — he was previously married to Elizabeth Huberdeau from 2009 until 2012 — he got down on one knee and proposed to Bella in April 2017.

However, a source tells People that he started getting cold feet as the wedding date drew near.

Nikki and her twin sister Brie Bella put out a Twitter statement on Monday informing their fans of the split.

“After much contemplation and six years of being together, Nikki Bella and John Cena announced today their decision to separate as a couple,” it read.

“While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives.”

And now it’s come out that the couple were completely at odds over starting a family, after WWE star John ruled out having kids.

“Nikki and John truly love each other, but they will never have the same view on a perfect future,” a source tells ET.

“Nikki has always dreamt of having a family of her own and John does not want children and that was the main cause of their break up. They are both dedicated to their careers, but Nikki wants more than just that.”
