“When you get there, make yourself a winner the moment you land in China, walk tall, walk proud.”

WorldRemit partners with Zimbabwe Achievers Awards US and Australia for 2017

Global money transfer service WorldRemit has partnered with the Australian and US chapters of the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA) for the 2017 award ceremonies to be held in October and November, respectively.

Now in its seventh year, the ZAA has grown to become the biggest platform celebrating the achievements of people of Zimbabwean heritage from across various fields of endeavour.

Starting off in London, the awards have spread to other major cities across the globe with significant populations of Zimbabweans, starting with Johannesburg in 2014.

Australia has become the fourth country to host the ZAA after the UK, South Africa and the US. Preparations are at an advanced stage for its inaugural awards gala dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide on Saturday 28 October.

”The stage is set, the red carpet is ready, and tickets are selling out fast, I urge those who intend to attend to secure their tickets as places are limited; said Method Mukundu, ZAA Australia Committee member.

The US awards, now in their second year, will be held on 11 November at the Marriot Quorum Hotel in Dallas.

“We are looking forward to hosting another fantastic ZAA and as usual, we expect the event to sell out. I would urge people to secure their places early to avoid disappoint” added Vez Nkomo, ZAA US organising Chair.

Unlike traditional money transfer companies, WorldRemit is a purely digital service that allows individuals to send money to friends and family living abroad, using a computer, smartphone or tablet.

ZAA Chairman Conrad Mwanza welcomed the new partnership with WorldRemit, saying it signalled the company’s commitment to empowering the communities it worked with.

“We are delighted to be working with WorldRemit in fostering greater engagement with the Zimbabwean community around the world.

“Both ZAA and WorldRemit started in the diaspora and share a commitment to connect national and diaspora communities in beneficial and innovative ways.

“As we celebrate the achievements of our countrymen and women, we are raising awareness of our collective strength and demonstrating the huge possibilities that are within our reach as Zimbabweans,” Mwanza said.

WorldRemit CMO, Alex O’Shaughnessy said: “We’re proud to be associated with the positive and inspiring work the ZAA is doing in connecting Zimbabweans across the globe.

“By bringing international remittances online, WorldRemit is making the process quicker, easier and more secure –helping people to focus on making the most of their opportunities, wherever they are.

Like us, the ZAA believe that the mix of experiences and perspectives the diaspora possess offers them unique opportunities to build a better future for themselves and for people around the world. We’re therefore very proud to lend our support to ZAA’s vision.”

#TuesBeauty: Mesmerise Them With Your Lip Game,No Restrictions!

Beauty moguls are always on that “DO NOT” do this, “DO” that! Tip. Well, I have good news today, go all out and express yourself whichever way you want on your lips.

Lupita Nyongo- Lancome-Juicy-Shakers advert

I personally rate lips as the second part of your face that highlights the whole look beside eyebrows.

This week we talk “mesmerise them with your lip game.”

Lip stains come in unlimited colours and shades.

Some of my trend sensitive sisters are fearful to try out new things. To keep you in check, below are parameters to play it safer to suit your skin tone, on your trial and error lipstick session.

For light skin tones, you can try out ivory, blue, pinkish undertones or nudes.

For medium skin tones, you better place your bet on colours like peach, coral, bronze and sheer cherry.

Dark skin tones can try out bold colours as they come, diverse shades of brown, plum, red and blue undertones. above.

Despite the different skin tones mentioned above. Guess what? With lipstick, you can experiment and go all out with your lip colours.

For a subtle look, you can stick to your different shades of nudes and quieter tones. For a daring look, you are allowed to experiment with your bold colours like deep red, purple, blue, yellow etc.

We have seen the OMBRE lip getting prevalent amongst the makeup lovers, this is proof that you can play around with mixing out colours, having a darker shade on the outer lining of the lips and lighter shade on the inner.

There is a number of lip shapes e.g. The pouty lip (peaked cupid bow), thin lip, even lip, oversized bottom lip, oversized upper lip and natural full lip etc. Despite all these, we can all rock the same lip colour regardless.

Which lip shape are you? I belong to the natural lip family.

Takura – Kamushekero Kacho : What We Think About the Song

After causing a buzz in the local hip-hop space last year, eyes were on Takura. His follow up move had to correctly categorise him among kings or he was going to comb his beard wallowing in the already crowded fluke section.

His new serious offering in 2017, Kamushekero Kacho is a party song which rides on the existing pop culture club anthem wave.

The dancehall like tempo on the song will make it a favourite of most Dj’s. It is a song that sounds very well after a bottle of Gin, lyrically void but worryingly groovy.

But does the song match with other releases which saw Takura`s name featuring among the most booked hip-hop acts in Zimbabwe?

For a person who used to make singing hits with Soul Afrika, Takura failed to capitalise on his vocal ability. The melodies are not too creative, it sounds like a boutique version of Tory Lanez dancehall fused songs.

What made Takura a favourite in 2016 were his infectious melodies which stuck on the mind even days after listening to his music. Beautiful as it may be, that element forgot to show face as he crafted his latest release.

Although the mastering is crisp as has been most of Spirit Fingers productions, the song lacks that commanding bass line.

Maybe that was the creative angle those who were involved in production looked for but if they did they may have reduced the venom expected to be the killer punch in an intended summer hit.

Although it may get spins, to suggest that the song will stop people in their tracks would be stretching the fortunes of an otherwise decent singer.

Songs that carry the same texture as Kamushekero Kacho usually carry a bit of aggression either in the lyrics or the delivery. Similes in the hooks are in some cases very playful, that key ingredient seemed to be missing from Takura`s delivery.

Apart from these few things we observed, Takura dropped a fairly decent musical piece worth the space we are affording to its review.

There are things that he did rights and should be commended accordingly;

Takura showed his confidence treading in areas most hip-hop acts would shun. He localised a Carribean sound with finesse. It is a deviation from the 808 basslines which have saturated the hip-hop space lately.

Not sure if the people who resonated with his sound at first will migrate with him but it is refreshing to see artists being inventive with their sounds.

The song has an appeal that can propel Takura to the international market as it carries the generic Afro Dancehall traits.

The accompanying video also plays a part in making it marketable. Sidenote (Takura is building his superstar image, his latest video is all the evidence anyone may need.) We would love to see him rope in Nutty O on the remix, we can only dream.

Note: Dear Zimbabwean artists it is possible to make hit songs that do not give any reference to imbibing or gyrating. This line is not in any way specific to Takura.

Verdict: The song is a six and a half.

A groovy bar track that can be played as people trickle into the club. It may be impossible to play once the party is in motion close to midnight. It is good but not in any way a likely candidate for song of the year.

Ginimbi dismisses Fake email which alleged he paid 10k to Instagram Girls

Birthday boy Genius Kadungure better referred to as Ginimbi has dismissed allegations that he offered Instagram ladies some money in exchange for sexual favours.

This came after Twitter went into overdrive yesterday following a published screenshot of what has now been established to be a fake email.

In the email, a fake Ginimbi is seen sending a bulk email to various Instagram slay queens and offering them 10 000 each if they slept with him.

Below is the screenshot.

In a statement published on his Facebook page, Ginimbi trashed the fake email and called it a scam.

“I’m so terrified and shocked with the extent how a low lifer would have a sleepless night to scheme, compose and draft such a fake email conversation circulating jeopardizing and tarnishing my image,” he said.

“Firstly I don’t have an email address called Genius Ginimbi and I have never used a Cell C phone operating service hence you got that wrong.”

He said that the perpetrator was trying to get his attention and gain publicity by tarnishing his name.

“Whoever it is that’s trying to get my attention I hope you have achieved your goal and added a few cents in (sic) your kiddy bank. Whatever scam you trying to instigate don’t use my high profile name to gain publicity for I don’t offer money to anyone via email. This is a bogus fraudulent staged email do not entertain it,” he added.

Gimbi partied with his friends last Saturday on a private Yacht and to celebrate his birthday he bought himself a new Rolls Royce

Soul Jah Love, Seh Calaz takes beef to the Tarrus Riley Show

Between them is a career which includes several number one dancehall hits, Theirs is a love of music and steadfast devotion to the art that has taken them across oceans.

Soul Jah Love and Seh Calaz both have massive talent and a strong work ethic which has accorded them Ghetto Hero status.

But the two have crossed paths and we could be headed for Dancehall’s biggest feud.

Friday night Seh Calaz’s team lambasted Jah Love and vowed never to associate with him after the latter demanded to be removed from the lists of performers at the Birthday Sadaka gig that happened Saturday.

However, music has the undeniable power to ‘unite’ people as the now sworn enemies will share the same stage at the Tarrus Riley show happening Saturday 28 October at the HICC.

It will be interesting to see how the two will handle themselves backstage or whether they will take the chance to talk and make up.

By October 28 Soul Jah Love will be smarting from an album launch Ndofirapo and will be performing on the biggest stage of his career.

Seh Calaz, on the other hand, is a seasoned performer whose energy on the stage is unmatched.

Jah Prayzah’s Glittering Outfit Explained

Jah Prayzah is a man who is on a real hot streak at the moment, he is producing some of the finest music and of course, he is providing some eye candy for our sisters.

His music is not ordinary and so is his swag. He loves to colour and is not afraid to experiment new styles

Friday night the lanky singer stepped onto the HICC in his glittering second outfit of the night and had people talking.

On his big day, he opted for shine sequence with a detail on it and a stretch very fitting material on sleeves with shining draping detail of sequence and chains, something which was for a stage performance.

But who was responsible for this outfit?

Award-winning Zimbabwean designer Thembani Mubochwa of TZM Fashion House who had just returned from showcasing at the African Union’s African Fashion Reception held in Adis Ababa is the man with the magic hands.

He explains the inspiration behind the jacket.

Jah Prayzah was much involved in designing the concept of the costume blazer for the stage he wanted, he came up with the concept of the detail he wanted on sleeves of the jacket and as a designer, I had to work out what he wanted but of course with my signature of zips,” explains Mubochwa.

Thembani has dressed prominent celebrities in Africa and is arguably Zimbabwe’s top designer at the moment, he also scooped a prize at this year’s Durban July show in South Africa.

But what exactly is happening on that jacket, Thembani expounds.

“It is a two-piece jacket, on the bodice, you will see a normal suiting sequence with stretch material detailed with zips.  On sleeves, you will see a Tshirt long sleeve fitting muscular look.”

“This is a versatile look which can work for both stage performance, videos or red carpet events,” he narrates.

The two have will now be working together for a longer period to come. Their combination will sure bring out more classic outfits.

Thembani believes celebrities should always set the fashion conversation.

“It’s about time we see our own Zimbabwean celebrities taking their position in the fashion industry by setting trends and not following them.

The Truth Everyone Missed On that Jah Prayzah, Yemi Alade Song

“Her name is Yemi Alade, I used to hear about her on the radio, I dedicate this song to her ” goes the chorus on this new masterpiece from Jah Prayzah taken off the new album, Kutonga Kwaro.

Tilted Nziyo Yerudo, the chorus might sound like carefully crafted rhymes but if you think deep you will realise that Jah Prayzah is actually chronicling his own story here. Being a lyrical genius that he is, he hid his story inside a love song for us to decode.

Not long ago he actually used to hear about Yemi on Radio but now he has her on a song and a great video too, To cap it all on a local production by a mere Gweru boy DJ Tamuka.  (A story for another post)

This is a song about achievement.

But for proponents of love, of course, it is a song about love.  After the Watora Mari collaboration with Diamond Platinumz, the chemistry in this song is just as exciting to watch as the video.

In the video Jah has a makeshift radio in his rural home and on it is Yemi Alade, Cupid must have been messing with this rural boy’s head and he is transmitted into a daydream, where he falls in love with her.

In the chorus, Jah Prayzah tackles the fear of cultural differences in love

As a rural boy (Jah Prayzah) that he is, he registers his concern whether this newly found town girl will be able to communicate with his people in Shona.

They ended up getting married in a traditional ceremony, We also see an excited Uncle at the lobola celebrations played by his manager Keen Mashapaidze.

Their voices/style truly complimented each other – It’s one combination I  would have never thought of assembling but it’s such a blend.

Do we still need more evidence that Jah Prayzah is a Star?

Ok here it is Watch the video below

Oh Hail Jah Prayzah — Simply The Best

He was staring history in the face, his challenge was to prove to all doubters that indeed he is the star that the country has been waiting for.

Things could simply have turned disastrous, Jah Prayzah could have easily sung for a half-full auditorium, at least those were the sentiments from social media critics.

The source of the disaster, they say, was Davido’s failure to come to the show as has been advertised, a situation which 2kings Entertainment dealt with swiftly.

But fate had other plans – locals stood by their star and the HICC was teeming with people.

Jah Prayzah filled up the venue to the brim, proving to all and sundry that he currently is our biggest musical treasure and our new export.

Of course, they are others who would argue that the addition of Winky D and Oliver Mtukudzi to the show boosted the numbers, truth be told, the album Kutonga Kwaro was the pulling factor.

The Show as it happened

The show was hosted by ZiFM’s Miss Becky, Newsbae, Dual Sim, Ruvhi who were exchanging duties.

At around 2230hrs musician Mbeu took to the stage and performed two songs with a live band before him BaShupi had also done a short performance.

At this stage, the HICC was at least 3/4 full but people were stilling trickling in with others struggling to secure parking.

Bustop TV’s Gonyeti who was tasked with introducing the Guest of Honour performed her stand up comedy and had people in stitches.

After giving a performance of her life a fortnight ago at the Shoko Festival, the stage at Kutonga Kwaro launch was big, and so was her confidence. Incredible.

Guest of Honour Sir Wicknel

Although people resisted him at first, they then warmed up to him and at times cheering and laughing at his jokes.

Sir Wicknel then became the first person to buy a copy of Kutonga Kwaro album, and he did so for 10 000 in hard cash, which was wrapped in papers.

Before he handed the money he ordered that Jah Prayzah’s wife come onto the stage. Mrs Mukombe obliged, and just like the wife of a superstar, she was glittering with glamour.

The audience was then given the honour of watching two of Jah Prayzah’s unreleased videos, Chengetedza and Nziyo Yerudo featuring Yemi Alade

ExQ and Nutty O

The two came onto the stage at around 2333hrs, by then the HICC was fully packed. Nutty O performed Bugatti and then ExQ joined him for their collaboration Lets talk about it.

ExQ then took over the set with his talk of the town male dancers, he did Bhachura and Jerusalema.

Jah makes first stage appearance

At exactly 2350 the main attraction Jah Prayzah went on stage and performed One new song and sampled the first stanza of Chengetedza.

He exited the stage at 0012 leaving the DJ playing music as Tuku’s band was setting up.

The programming of artists and the show’s intermittency almost threatened to water down the excitement.

Dr Tuku then came on stage and livened up the fans.

Andy Muridzo

When it comes to his performance, Andy Muridzo is still miles away from being a star that people think he is.

For the vocal talents that he possesses and the lukewarm performances he delivers, Andy is a classic case of a wasted talent.

The same can be said about singer/rapper Takura, despite having so many number one hits, his live act is very boring.

His stage presence vis-a-vis his talents invokes boredom and an induced visit to the restrooms.

Yes, he has hit songs, but to compare him to Jah Prayzah is mischievous. He needs to polish his act.

And a Suprise artist from across the border

And then out of nowhere, at 0126am there was Zambian star Mampi of Walilowelela fame, she did the hit song with the sing-along Zimbabwe fans

Jah Prayzah’s Second performance

Star attraction, Jah Prayzah returned at to the stage at around 0130hrs and gave his all, Despite Davido’s non-availability, he sang My Lily and the crowd helped him too. It was beautiful.

The only disappointment was that he did not perform many tracks from the new album, preferring that people buy the album.

After dishing out songs like Goto, Seke Mutema, Gochi Gochi, Hossana and others, it was time for him and his Third Generation Band to call it a day, by then the time was around 0230am.

The partying responsibility was then handed over to Winky D who was the closing act.

2Kings Entertainment Magic

The 2 Kings Entertainment duo of Tich Mharadze and Dee Nosh has now successfully filled up the HICC more times than any promoter in recent times.

Roping in Tuku and Winky at the 11th hour as well as slashing ticket prices for the show proved to be a well-thought move as the HICC was packed.

And that Mampi suprise!!!!

It is our hope that they managed to recover part of the 90 000 they had paid for Davido’s performance.

Conclusion

A star is born, Believe it, celebrate it, Own it, Brag about It – Jah Prayzah Simply the best
