100 Classic And Cult Movies Extravaganza Coming To DStv

Cult and classic movies will feature aplenty in the next pop-up channel to be initiated on DStv, focusing on 100 unmissable movies that feature on most peoples’ must-see lists.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe,  said the introduction of pop-up channels two years ago had been highly popular with DStv viewers, and the latest pop-up channel would launch on Monday, October 30, to be known as the M-Net Movies Bucket List channel.

“It will focus on a selection of fine films and all-time favourites, showcased exclusively to DStv Premium subscribers on channel 109, and the line-up is both exciting and varied,” she said.

The first of the 100 movies will be screened at 6pm on Monday, October 30 and the countdown from 100 to number one will continue to Saturday, December 2, when the final screening takes place at 8.30pm.

Depending on the duration and age restrictions of the films, the daily countdown runs on weekdays from 6pm and on weekends at 4pm.

Said Ms Dziva: “The M-Net Movies Bucket List has been compiled by a team of film experts and fanatics, and their criteria for selection dictated that a movie had to be entrenched in popular culture, define an era, shift mediums, uproot the status quo, delight a variety of audiences, impress critics worldwide and ignite a love for movies.

“The previous themed pop-up channels, such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Fast & Furious and James Bond channels, were huge hits and M-Net has promised to keep creating unique experiences for M-Net Movies audiences.

With the M-Net Movie Bucket List the pop-up concept goes to the next level, as viewers been never before been able to see so many magnificent movies in one place over such a short space of time. We know they will enjoy this hot 100.”

M-Net Movies will share the titles of the movies numbered from 100 to 11 on its programming schedules, but the Top 10 films on the list will be a top secret.

This means that the final films on the M-Net Movies Bucket List will only be revealed to DStv customers on the day of the screening.

“Viewers will have to tune in to channel 109 on the day these top 10 films air to find out their identity,” said Ms Dziva“Keeping hush about these titles adds to the excitement of this movie compilation.

We all have our own bucket lists based on our own tastes and we believe it will be great fun for movie fans to compare notes and see whether their favourites have made it onto the pop-up channel, especially the top 10.

“M-Net Movies will also add excitement with M-Net Movies Bucket List Bonus Features as well as a fabulous viewers competition. To compete in this competition, viewers should create their own the Top 10 movie list at mnet.tv/bucketlist.

The competition closes on November 30, just before the Top 10 hits the screen.

Among the titles in the Bucket List, Bonus Features will be vintage silver screen darlings that were groundbreaking in their time, such as Mary Poppins, Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The M-Net Movies Bucket List schedule, but not the Top 10, will be published on www.mnet.tv and viewers will also be able to check out titles on the Electronic Programming Guide or catch up on DStv Catch Up Plus.

Only Tamy can make a beautiful video for a Sad Song!!

Tamy Moyo just keeps making us believers, a few days after her Beautiful Ndozvandiri track won the best online selling song at OYOS a local music online purchasing platform, she dropped this gorgeous video.

The beautiful diva’s latest track “Ndyeke” a sad love song of a couple whose relationship was on the edge is doing well on radio.

To sync with the track, Tamy released a heartfelt and soulful video today that features a cum-model Emmanuel Chiwanga produced by a renowned multi-award winning local visual producer Andy Cutta.

Beginning with Tamy sitting next to a fireplace emotionally cooling herself with a glass of wine whilst putting on a hot little off the shoulder number, a calming apologetic voice follows after a 60’s modified ringtone.

The voice goes after 56 seconds with well-mastered piano keys creating a mindset of a sad romantic scene. A relay of video clips show a guy with a different girl at a well-fashioned restaurant and later on Tamy in tears sitting in a car.

That gives hints to the meaning of a Ndebele or Zulu track title “Ndiyeke” that is leave me alone / let me go (Ndyeke ndihambe).

Putting on VNN (Vimbai Natasha Naomi)  designs the songstress appears giving a hand-off to the guy who couldn’t let her go and lyrically saying “How Could You Lie To Me Babe, Ndyeke Ndihambe”.

Singing the truth about most rocky relationships, she expressed her love for tongue-twisting lyrics in Ndebele on a verse she says “Njege zulu njege langa, uyeza njalo uyahamba (like the rain like the sun, you come and go).

The audio track was produced by Daniel Chiweda who works under the current leading media studio – JP Studios.

Shunned by the local entertainment industry, K.F. Malindi jr. early 2016 joined the great trek down south, armed with only three things, his degree, a voice and a dream.

Panelist at the 2016 SA Zim Achievers Awards

His hope was somewhat over-ambitious, for very few foreigners yet alone Zimbabweans make it on South African radio stations, not just any radio station, but Africa’s biggest online radio station — CliffCentral.com

“I had just moved to South Africa and was still job hunting a good friend of mine, Kamu Phiri and I were watching Hot 97 and we were like man we can do this,” recollects Malindi.

Knowing he probably had one shot at it, he dared to contact former Idols judge and founder of Cliff Central, Gareth Cliff

“I sent an email to Gareth Cliff like a week later, he responded a day after and two days after that we were on CliffCentral.com.

“In this industry, you just gotta throw yourself out there, you have nothing to lose from trying. In Zimbabwe the entertainment industry shunned me but I still didn’t give up. And now I’m in my second year at Africa’s Biggest online station,” he enthused.

K.f. Malindi Jr. with Gareth Cliff

With that boldness, he has been producer and presenter, firstly of a show called Zim Conversations and as of January, No Borders.

No Borders is a programme that seeks to take a conversation to every African, focusing on day to day matters and topics that affect the 21st Century individual. From continental Politics, Current Affairs, Music, Arts & Culture

It was the first radio show to partner with MTV Shuga Down South and air the MTV Shuga Down South Radio Drama Series.

Back home Malindi had built his name in the sometimes thankless music industry, he had managed Youngnash (now signed to Anashe Media Group & HWMiT),  facilitated his meeting Yagi Dojo, he also managed Marcques and Mile now signed to Veryus with Verseless.

“I worked at HWMiT Joe Public with Yagi Dojo and Audius Mtawarira and orchestrated the acquisition of major media campaigns with Hivos, The Dutch Embassy in Harare, Women’s University and UNAIDS along with Fungai Zvirawa of Khaya Defero we did Zim’s first World AIDS Day Concert,” he added.

Having hosted the only Zimbabwe Centred show on an International platform, Zim Conversations on CliffCentral.com, K. F is one of those leading a revolution of internet radio stations.

Being part of the history-making CliffCentral, he has decided to also create a piece of history by affording airplay to musicians, who like him a few years back, are shunned by traditional radio stations.

“I despise “Gate Keepers” the people who feel because they have radio shows or are manager’s at record labels they get to decide what’s hot and what’s not,” he explained, as he gets more passionate.

“So I have dedicated my shows to playing music that most stations don’t play I ask upcoming artists to email me their music which I plug and playlist and leave it to the listeners to judge whether it’s hot or not.”

At CliffCentral he has hosted a lot of Zimbabwean personalities as well as market local Zim music, his platform is probably the only foreign program that has pushed Zimbabwean content to a wider audience.

“Being a Zimbabwean obviously I’m biased and I play as much Zim Content as possible and I always try and get guests from Zim to come onto the show,” he said.

“I genuinely feel we have amazing talent, but unfortunately, we don’t have the platforms to market our content,” he added.

Star FM bows to Listeners’ demands, to remove Prophets Adverts

Following repeated outcries by its listeners, Zimpapers owned Star Fm has promised to review its advertising policy which was constantly featuring religious adverts.

Star Fm was running the risk of an audience migration following its over-play of prophets adverts.

Leading voices like Jibilika Founder Plot Mhako and Comedian Carl Joshua Ncube were most vocal regards the Prophets adverts.

Following the proliferation of churches, congregates have become one of the most valuable commodities in Zimbabwe as Prophets seek to cash in on the usually gullible followers.

Listeners of the country’s most popular DJs KVG and Phathisani’s drive time show are also complaining about their favourite show being littered with adverts and very little content.

Arts practitioner Wadzanai Chiuriri yesterday posted on her Facebook account that they had engaged the Star FM management and they said they would adjust their content and manage their advertising better.

Below is Wadzani’s facebook post

Songs About You & How It Reflects On Fungai Nengare’s Musical Career

So in case you missed the great news, Zimbabwe’s pop sweetheart Fungai Nengare finally released his highly anticipated debut album “Songs About You.”

Fungai Nengare

The twelve track RnB-pop-and-house-inspired oeuvre comes under Show Time Records imprint and it features some really cool collaborations.

Eclectic and intricate, it is a beautiful display of human emotion, one that makes stunningly clear his talents as a guitarist, singer and songwriter, and cements him as one of today’s brightest musical talents.

Throughout the album, he tackles subjects that knows no expiration date – love, romance, celebration and our general livelihood as humanity with arrangement and melodies that could make Micasa or any of his contemporaries covet.

For the bigger part, the album carries so much dedication, versatility, inspiration and positive vibes with it. Songs like Songs About You and Singing Our Song are tributes to fans and everyone else for their support and the later is a triumphal one that inspires everyone to reach for the stars.

One Of A Kind, Number 1, and November celebrates a nonesuch kind of love with soulful singing and infectious melodies. Like I Love You featuring Noxy is a beautiful ballad that has the two smoothies confessing their saccharine love tale like a lullaby.

Reverb7 and Tina Masawi come through on Ndaramba, an effervescent house joint that might be a soundtrack to our festive season. Their synergy and prowess is undeniable.

Musikana Akadai has this upbeat Afropop flavour that’s so captivating you might want to tap a foot.

Ubuntu reminds listeners of the importance of their roots because that defines who we are as a people. In his own words, “Ubuntu ngubuntu ngabantu.”

Nevertheless, the album is not all blissful and positive, and like most relationships, it includes breakups and frustrations.

Easy with Synik is a love-gone-sour song that has both artists letting go infatuating relationships. It’s so cathartic that Fungai has to even sneak in the “F” word in the process.

Elsewhere, the melancholy Memories features forlorn chords and a sincere vocal. On this song, the singer finds it hard to cope up with loneliness and memories of lost love.

It is intensely sad and overwhelmingly moving, yet lush and engrossing enough to demand repeat listens.

Rounding up everything, Songs About You is such a significant debut. Fungai pulls it off in a way that sounds creative and interesting, well, that what a virtuoso does.

RnB and local house music genres couldn’t be among the most thriving genres in the country right now, but listen to this album and tell us this guy isn’t destined for greatness with a straight face. We dare you.

He could still be relatively a lesser-known Fungai, but this album feels like the completion of an artistic vision.
