Cimas Health Group supports life-saving paediatric cardiac surgeries

As the Government continues to call on private sector partners to support the revitalisation of the public health sector, leading private healthcare institution,Cimas Health Group has for the second time extended its support to the recently concluded Egypt–Zimbabwe Paediatric Cardiac Surgery Mission (Open Heart Camp 2).

Led by a team of Egyptian cardiac specialists, in collaboration with local Zimbabwean medical professionals, this year’s camp built on the success of the inaugural Open Heart Camp held in November 2024, which Cimas Health Group also supported.

The week-long surgical Open Heart Camp 2, held at Parirenyatwa Hospital, saw 10 Zimbabwean children undergo life-saving cardiac procedures.

The operated children, aged between 6 months and 10 years, were mainly suffering from congenital heart defects—abnormalities present at birth that can affect the heart’s walls, valves, or associated blood vessels.

At least 4,500 children are said to be born with a congenital heart disease each year in Zimbabwe.

The Open Heart Camp has been described as a prime example of effective public-private sector collaboration, made possible by the Government through the Ministry of Health and Child Care, National Oil Infrastructure Company of Zimbabwe, the Embassy of Egypt in Zimbabwe, the Gift of Life International Foundation (USA), the Rotary Club of Harare Central, and The Avenues Clinic, among others.

Cimas Health Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Vuli Ndlovu, said Cimas remains committed to improving healthcare delivery in Zimbabwe, in alignment with the Government’s Vision 2030, which prioritises access to quality, world-class healthcare for all citizens.

“Having supported the first Open Heart Surgical Camp in November last year and seeing its impact on paediatric cardiac care in Zimbabwe, we decided to be part of this year’s camp again. This aligns with our purpose to inspire healthier communities,” Mr Ndlovu said.

Mr. Ndlovu said being part of Open Heart Camp 2 demonstrates Cimas Health Group’s solidarity with the Government and shared responsibility in enhancing health delivery in the country.

“This Open Heart Camp plays a key role in empowering our surgeons in the area of paediatric cardiac care, which remains underdeveloped not only in Zimbabwe, but across the region,” he said.

He added that Cimas remains open to future collaborations that support improved healthcare delivery, beyond profit motives.

“Despite economic headwinds, our determination remains unshaken. At Cimas Health Group, we are not driven solely by profit. Our guiding force is the profound responsibility of saving lives.”

Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable Sleiman Kwidini, commended the role of private sponsors, describing them as exemplary corporate citizens.

He noted that the camp reflects the full potential of Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs) in delivering high-impact healthcare interventions.

“To our committed local sponsors, NOIC, The Avenues Clinic, and Cimas, your contribution defines true corporate citizenship. You are investing not only in healthcare, but also in hope, in futures, and in the vision of a stronger Zimbabwe,” said Minister Kwidini.

“All of this aligns with His Excellency (Emmerson Mnangagwa) the President’s Vision 2030 to transform Zimbabwe into an empowered, upper-middle-income society. World-class healthcare is a pillar of that vision.”

Minister Kwidini also praised the dedication of Zimbabwean health professionals:

“Our surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, perfusionists, technicians, and support staff are heroes. This camp would not be possible without their tireless work, passion, and professionalism.”

The Avenues Clinic General Manager, Mrs. Sibusisiwe Ndhlovu, echoed Mr. Ndlovu’s sentiments, also emphasising their commitment to national health priorities.

“As a private healthcare institution, The Avenues Clinic is honoured to once again contribute to the Egypt–Zimbabwe Paediatric Cardiac Surgery Mission, a truly life-changing initiative,” she said.

“At The Avenues Clinic we strongly believe in partnerships that put people first. Our support in this mission reflects our broader commitment to play our part in enabling access to specialised care for the most vulnerable members of our society.”

With a standout lineup and exciting global partnerships, this year’s festival looks ahead with confidence while honouring the traditions and rhythms that continue to unite generations.

A large turnout is expected at Hertfordshire Showgrounds this Saturday, 26 July, as Zimfest 2025 takes centre stage.

Now recognised as the UK’s largest celebration of Zimbabwean music, arts and culture, the festival returns with a standout lineup and an immersive experience for all ages.

Headlining this year’s main stage is Zimbabwean icon Winky D, joined by breakout star Saintfloew, rising talents Oriyano and Nisha TS, and crowd-favourite Jah Signal and more.

The soundtrack of a new generation: Piano Republik stage returns

One of the festival’s biggest draws, the Piano Republik stage, is also back by popular demand. Dominating the amapiano soundscape will be DJ Maphorisa and Young Stunna, bringing South Africa’s genre-defining beats to a UK audience.

Festivalgoers can expect a high-energy fusion of live music, dance, and cross-continental performances.

Now in its 26th year, Zimfest has grown into more than just a music festival, bringing together Zimbabweans from across the UK and Zimbabwe for a shared celebration of identity and heritage.

Speaking ahead of the festival, Tawanda Chiwira (OLY) a spokesperson for the organisers said: “Zimfest is a space where community, culture and creativity come together.

We want everyone to leave feeling inspired, not just by the music, but by the stories, food, fashion and unity that define us. This year’s edition is a true reflection of the richness of Zimbabwean culture and its global influence.”

This year’s event is supported by major international sponsors, including World Remit, Remitly, Ecocash, and Mukuru, alongside other key partners like Nyaradzo Life Insurance, Diaspora Insurance, Ngoto, Masau Gin,

In addition to live performances, Zimfest 2025 will feature a vibrant market of small business traders, food vendors, and a family-friendly area designed with activities for children.

VIP and Sky Terrace experiences are available for those seeking luxury amenities and exclusive views.

Parking will be available on-site, but organisers strongly advise festivalgoers to pre-book tickets and permits to avoid delays.

Attendees are also encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time, with traffic expected to peak during arrival and departure periods.

Gwevedzi Redefined Releases ‘Hope’ — A Nine-Track Call to Reclaim Zimbabwe’s Soul

Afro-acoustic outfit Gwevedzi Redefined is ready to spark a national awakening — through rhythm, tradition, and soul.

The band is gearing up for the release of their much-anticipated third album, “Hope,” on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Theatre in the Park — and fans are already buzzing.

The excitement doesn’t stop there. A follow-up live show is set for July 26 at the scenic Gava Restaurant, after which the group opens their calendar for bookings.

If there’s a soundtrack for dreaming again in Zimbabwe, this is it.

Titled “Hope” — an acronym for Hold On Pain Ends — the nine-track album is a stirring call for Zimbabweans to reclaim their dreams, ambitions, and identity.

It’s a message wrapped in traditional dance rhythms like shangara, dinhe, mhande, mbakumba, and amabhiza, making the music both reflective and electrifying.

“This album is about resetting the moral compass,” said producer Daves Guzha of Creative Native, a musical arm of Rooftop Promotions.

“We’re saying, ‘Aspire to inspire before you expire.’ We’ve normalized dysfunction — in leadership, society, even religion — and forgotten how to dream.

Through this music, we’re offering a reset. A way back.”

Recorded live at Theatre in the Park and mixed by Mbakie Muleya of Audio Academy, the album feels alive — full of percussion, vocal warmth, and a rawness that connects instantly.

Tracks to look out for include:

Kamwenje – A sharp critique of ego, greed, and jealousy

Rise – An anthem of perseverance and optimism

Zuva – A poetic reminder that the sun will rise again

Hi – A tender love song celebrating self-worth and connection

Harare – A rhythmic ode to the capital’s chaos and hustle, pulsing with layered percussion and deliberate “organized noise”

“We asked ourselves: how do we inspire again without preaching?” Guzha added. “Music used to unite us during liberation — it still can.”

What makes Gwevedzi Redefined stand out? It’s their innovative fusion of instruments — including the use of mortar and pestle in their percussion setup — and their powerful vocal harmonies.

The current lineup features:

Wilfred Nikisi (29) aka Dancing Strongs – Bass

LeeAnne “Matalamanda” Rukato (23) – Lead vocals & percussion

Tinashe Musangutsa (35) – Guitar

Joshua Msengezi (19) – Drums

Their name, Gwevedzi, is a Shona word meaning suitor, symbolizing the role of music in bringing people together — and they’ve certainly lived up to that purpose.

With past hits like “Vhunze,” “Daira Ndikuone,” and “Malaicha,” the group already has two solid albums — Tsambo and Nhungo — under their belt.

They’ve played everywhere from Mutare to Victoria Falls, lit up the Jacaranda and Amplifaya Festivals, and taken their sound as far as South Africa and Mozambique.

Now, with Hope, Gwevedzi Redefined isn’t just releasing an album — they’re launching a movement. One that calls Zimbabweans to reflect, reset, and rise.

If you’re tired of the same old mjolo-driven chart-toppers and craving something rooted, resonant, and real — this album is your next favorite listen.

Professional wrestler Hulk Hogan dead at the age of 71, WWE says

Professional wrestler Terry Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan, died on Thursday at the age of 71, according to World Wrestling Entertainment.

Bollea is widely recognised as the biggest wrestling star of all time and helped WWE become the behemoth that it is today.

In the 1980s and 1990s,Hogan’s larger-than-life personality – in and out of the ring – made him a household name and a crossover mainstream star, starring in movies and recognised around the world.

“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture’s most recognisable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s,” the company said in a post on X.

“WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”

The city of Clearwater, Florida, said in a statement that police and fire personnel were dispatched to Bollea’s home after a report of an individual in cardiac arrest.

Bollea was treated by fire and rescue crews when they arrived and was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

With his boasts of possessing “24-inch pythons” for arms and his reminders to “say your prayers and eat your vitamins,” Bollea was instrumental in wrestling’s 1980s “golden era.”

Bollea’s popularity and his rivalries with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, André Rene Roussimoff – known as André the Giant, “Macho Man” Randy Savage and scores of others made professional wrestling a multi-billion-dollar industry in the 1980s and early 1990s.

His decision to leave the then-World Wrestling Federation for World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in the mid-1990s sent shockwaves around the wrestling world.

His “heel turn” – the wrestling term for a hero turning into a villain – in 1996 and his run as “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan is one of the most memorable periods of wrestling history and helped WCW usurp Bollea’s former company in television ratings for 83 weeks – the last time WWE trailed another wrestling company in the traditional measure of popularity.
