Pele: Brazil football legend dies aged 82

Brazilian football legend Pele, arguably the greatest player ever, has died at the age of 82.

He is credited with scoring a world record 1,281 goals in 1,363 appearances during a 21-year career, including 77 goals in 92 matches for his country.

The only player to win the World Cup three times, lifting the trophy in 1958, 1962 and 1970, Pele was named Fifa’s Player of the Century in 2000.

President Jair Bolsonaro has declared three days of national mourning.

Pele had been suffering with kidney and prostate problems in recent years. He had surgery to remove a tumour from his colon in September 2021 at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, after the tumour was detected in routine tests.

He was readmitted to hospital in late November 2022.

His daughter Kely Nascimento has kept fans updated on her father’s condition with regular social media updates from hospital.

On Thursday she posted a picture of what appeared to be Pele’s family’s hands on his body in hospital and wrote: “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.”

Terror Bouncers charged with Attempted Murder

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of two terror bouncers following a widespread manhunt.

This follows the chaos which occurred last weekend at Pabloz Night Club at Sam Levy’s where a bouncer, Blessing Kumunda attempted to stab another bouncer with a knife.

Music promoters had previously appealed for intervention from the authorities but nothing had materialised.

In a statement, the Police said: “The ZRP confirms the arrest of the two bouncers, Gideon Sanyangore (32) and Blessing Kumunda (36), whose video clip went viral on social media while attacking patrons with one of the suspects openly brandishing a knife at Pabloz Night Club, Sam Levy Village, Borrowdale.

“Police have since recovered the knife used in the commission of the crime. The suspects, who are facing attempted murder charges, will appear in court soon,” the statement added.

West Indies to tour Zimbabwe for Two Tests in February 2023

Zimbabwe will host the West Indies for two Test matches in February next year.

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has confirmed the series will be played at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

The first Test is scheduled for 4-8 February, with the second match pencilled in for 12-16 February.

Before the series gets underway, the West Indies will face a local side in a four-day warm-up match set for 28-31 January at Bulawayo Athletic Club.

Zimbabwe’s last Test match was way back in July 2021 against Bangladesh in Harare and, according ZC Director of Cricket Hamilton Masakadza, they will be eager to make the most of the upcoming series.

“We are pleased to confirm the West Indies will be visiting us for two Test matches that will be played in Bulawayo,” Masakadza said.

“Although it’s been a while since we last played Test cricket, our boys will be hungry and ready for some red-ball action and I believe an exciting series against one of the game’s top sides is on the cards.”

The last Test match between Zimbabwe and the West Indies – played at Queens Sports Club in October 2017 – ended in a draw, although the Caribbean side clinched the two-match series having won the first game by 117 runs.

17 year old Samantha Mundo ends Year on a High

At just 17-year-old Gospel singer Samantha Mundo is already using her voice as an expressive tool.

Apart from expressing her love and faith in God, she uses music to reach out to her fellow teens.

The year 2022 saw Samantha Mundo scale dizzy heights as she made her debut appearance on Star FM’s Gospel Greats Top 50 songs.

The 17-year-old Pretoria-based, Zimbabwean-born artist had two songs on the country’s premier gospel chart show with ‘Pray On’ featuring Mmatema coming on at 33 whilst ‘Simuka Titambe’ her collaboration with Sabastian Magacha was at number 25.

Gospel Greats Top 50 show which is hosted by Yvonne Tivatye was presented on Christmas day during a special edition programme.

Mundo told Zimbuzz of her joy for such an achievement.

“It’s such an honour to be a part of something as big as Gospel Greats considering how young I am and the fact that I have just entered the Industry and honestly I am pleased about this accomplishment,” said Samantha Mundo.

The young muso has had an exciting journey something she owes to the guidance of her older peers in the industry.

For Samantha, the month of December came with it a double delight as she got to share the stage with Grammy-nominated artist Pastor Travis Greene at the Shift Concert in Harare.

“I first want to mention how much of a huge fan of Pastor Travis I am and I had never imagined seeing him in person let alone sharing the same stage, it was a huge deal for me and I am truly grateful,” she revealed.

She already has set sights on releasing more music and doing more work in 2023 including a Live DVD recording.

Said Samantha: “I will be releasing an EP soon containing different genres of music as well as collaborations with various artists. However, Minister Takesure  Zamar and The Cherayis will be playing a big role in mentoring me.”

“I am also planning a Live DVD recording in Zimbabwe for 2023 in July as I turn 18 and the aim is to fill the auditorium with as many youths and teens as possible because at the end of the day my goal is to bring the youth closer to God and the Gospel.”

The 10th edition of the Star FM Gospel Greats Top 50 songs of 2022 took place yesterday.

Hosted by Yvonne Tivatye the special edition started at 4 pm to 9 pm.

Janet Manyowa took the coveted first place with her track ‘Vaudze’, Minister Mahendere was second with ‘Tangai Neni’ and the third position went to ‘Bvudzi rangu ramera’ by Dorcas Moyo.

Everton Mlalazi‘s ‘Ndokutewera’ and Andrea The Vocalist ft Aubrey Qwana’s Uhambo completed the top Five.

Speaking to Zimbuzz about her win, Janet Manyowa paid tribute to her fellow gospel artists for delivering music that gave glory to God.

“I am grateful to God. I think the Gospel music scene as a whole produced a lot of excellence and songs that are not only musically good this year but gave reverence to God,” she said.

“To be recognised to have the best song of the year in such a time is such an honour.”

The show host Yvonne Tivatye was pleased with the growth of the genre.

“This year the show witnessed massive growth in the country’s gospel music industry evidenced by how two of the top gospel acts in the country Janet Manyowa and Minister Mahendere upped their games.

“The quality of the sound and videos really went a notch higher and the premier gospel show in the country The Gospel Greats is so proud to be associated with such greatness,” said Yvonne Tivatye.

“On the show, we also saw fast-rising musician Everton Mlalazi continue to stand his ground on an upward trajectory. He won awards this year and collaborated with major regional players, and we are proud to have witnessed his growth.”

This year the Gospel Greats celebrated yesteryear musicians through a segment they called Gospel Greats Retro.

“This coming year we will bring current musicians in yet another exciting concept we shall share very soon,” added Yvonne.

Tory Lanez Found Guilty of Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

A Los Angeles jury on Friday found Daystar Peterson, the Canadian rapper better known as Tory Lanez, guilty of shooting a fellow artist, Megan Thee Stallion, in both of her feet following an argument about their romantic entanglements and respective careers in the summer of 2020.

Lanez fired at the Houston hip-hop star after an argument in 2020. The matter became the subject of speculation and gossip on social media and in songs.

Mr. Lanez, 30, was convicted of three felony counts: assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

He faces more than 20 years in prison and could be deported.

Jurors reached a verdict after about seven hours of deliberation across two days, following a trial that lasted nearly two weeks.

Mr. Lanez, who had been free on bail during the trial following a period of house arrest, was immediately taken into custody. Sentencing was scheduled for Jan. 27.

Megan Thee Stallion was not present in court. As the verdict was read, Mr. Lanez appeared motionless and stared straight ahead until his father stood up and began shouting at the judge and prosecutors. “God will judge you,” he said, as bailiffs moved to block his path.

Alex Spiro, a lawyer for Megan Thee Stallion, said in a statement: “The jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for Meg.”
