Hard lessons for St George’s College Rugby in SA

St George’s College Dragons concluded their week-long tour of South Africa on a bad note as they failed to register a single victory at the Kingswood college 125th Jubilee Rugby festival.

The traditional rugby powerhouse opened their tour with a bruising encounter against Hilton.

St George’s struggled upfront were they were bullied by their opponents who had a heavier pack of forwards and were had to content whenever they got going.

Dragons managed to restrict the Kwa-Zulu natal side to respectable score losing 21-12.

In the Second match, St George’s College entertained Graeme College who made light work of them and made sure they didn’t trouble the scorers losing 19-00.

The Dragons turned out to be their worst enemy with their decision making and game plan. They managed to dominate at set pieces especially at lineouts were they stole a lot of balls of Graeme throw.

Playing for territory would have been more ideal for them and pinning their opposite numbers in their own half.

St George’s finished off their road show with a crushing 17-43 defeat to Clifton college.

The scoreboard was not a true reflection of their final encounter. The boys from Harare managed to dominate territory and whenever they would manage to free up their pacey outside backs the likes of Rukudzo Munyeza.

The dragons looked dangerous but they were not clinical enough and it ended up costing them the match as they let Clifton of the hook several times.

The dragons will now have to regroup and take in all the lessons they have learnt on tour as they turn their attention to the upcoming school’s rugby season.

Zimbabwe crush UAE in the first ODI

Zimbabwe Chevrons opened the 4-ODI series against the United  Arab Emirates on a positive note at Harare sports club, winning the first One-Day International by 7 wickets.

It was a match that the host impressed both with the ball and the bat.

The Chevrons skipper Peter Joseph Moor won the toss and elected to field. The wicket had a lot of moisture due to the rains from the previous day and offered some sort of assistance to bowlers earlier on.

Zimbabwe bowling attack capitalised on the wicket condition making quick inroads on the UAE batting order especially the front line seamer Kyle Jarvis and Donald Tiripano who both claimed  2 wickets each.

UAE batting never got going in this match as wickets fell at regular intervals with only Mohammad Boota giving some sort of resistance by a knock of  36 Runs.

While chevron spin bowlers refused to be left of the party as off spin Brandon Mavute picked  2 wickets and Sikandar  Raza only 1 wicket.

Regis Chikabva reached a special milestone were he became the second wicketkeeper in the history of Zimbabwe after the legendary Andy Flower  take five catches in a single ODI.

Tendai Chatara posted the best bowling figures only going for 25 runs for his 3 wickets and was rightfully rewarded man of the match.

Zimbabwe batsman Sean Ervine carried on his impressive domestic   form into international cricket scoring 51 runs of 46 balls. Sadly Ervine gave away his wicket cheaply playing one shot too many

ZIFFT Launches ‘Narratives From Zimbabwe’ Project

The Zimbabwe International Film and Festival Trust (ZIFFT) has launched its ‘Narratives from Zimbabwe’ project to enhance Zimbabwe’s history and culture knowledge base, by recording on film Zimbabwe’s history, culture, and social foundation.

Zimbabwe has a strong heritage that is being lost because we have tended to rely on oral and unrecorded transmission, thus putting this highly valuable knowledge at risk of being lost.

ZIFFT is working in close partnership with the Zimbabwe Heritage Trust on this project.

The project’s aim is to identify and capture Zimbabwe’s narratives as audio and video recordings, to create a resource that creative practitioners can draw from to produce new cultural artefacts for society to interact with.

The initiative is designed to encourage a culture of recording these narratives for the future with mechanisms for other organisations and society at large to contribute to populating the resource developed during the project.

There is a wealth of historical narrative resident in our elderly citizens that, if captured, would provide an invaluable resource for film makers and other creative and cultural workers, and future generations to draw from.

With each passing day, information is lost, thus making it imperative that we capture as much of these stories that form the foundation of who we are as a people.

Additionally, the large volume of information available out there is not necessarily in a format that makes it easy to use, especially by the younger generation.

The Narratives from Zimbabwe project will present its information in the form of an interactive digital archive driven website.

All that anyone interested in knowing about Zimbabwe’s history, heritage, and culture needs to do will be to visit the website and click on a specific area of interest, and sample the brief introductions and trailers to choose the narrative they wish to follow.

Funding for the project has been provided by the European Union and INTERARTS Foundation for International Cultural Cooperation, Barcelona as part of its  ‘Culture at Work Africa’ Project.

‘Culture at Work Africa’ is a consortium of eight African, European and international partners who have joined forces with the European Union to create new opportunities and mobilise stakeholders to promote intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity in urban and peri-urban areas in Africa as drivers for social inclusion and sustainable human development.

The project, launched in February 2018 will end in 2021.

#NewMusic: Marcus Mafia is All About his ‘Shuga’

Marcus Mafia has dropped his first single of 2019 and the rapper is all about the sweet stuff in Mazishuga.

He hypes up his rap prowess using sugar as reference in the track which also came with a interesting lyric video.

Mazishuga is Marcus psyching himself up as a rapper with subtle sexual undertones.

At one point he intelligently used Vimbai Zimuto’s surname as a metaphor for ‘too much soup/sauce and the semi-nude pic of the songstress can be seen flashing in the lyric video.

Jah Prayzah’s Band Member Fatima Releases New Single

Her vocals are dominating and her smile is charming and it is hard to imagine Jah Prayzah’s 3rd Generation Band without Famita Katiji.

At work we know her as Stimela and hers has been a talent that has remained in the shadows for far too long.

On Tuesday she dropped suprised many by dropping her solo projected in the form a of a single titlted Gara Ndichauya.

And no, this does not mean that she is leaving her backing vocalist job in the band, she is still part of the vision and has the full support of her boss Jah Prayzah.

Information on the Youtube Channel clearly shows that Gara Ndichauya has the full backing of JP and in fact could be part of the big picture for Military Touch Movement
(MTM).

The song itself was produced by MTM man Rodney Beatz and was recorded at JP Studios with distribution by Military Touch Movement. The cover photography was done by Jah Prayzah’s manager Keen Mushapaidze.

And Jah tweeted his feelings about the song

Now that we have cleared that part, let’s talk about the song.

The song discusses a sitiuation which a men had guaranteed his better half that he would wed her and they would get the chance to raise their family together.

But the man vanishes and abandons her clinging to the guarantee yet he never returns to satisfy his guarantee.

In the song Fatima proves to be a possessor of superior songwriting skills and as she lays her melodies with gently calming effect.

Its difficult to listen to the song and not think about Chiwoniso as Fatima navigates her lyrics on the mbira instrument blended with Brian Tsiga’s signature guitar.

Brian Tsiga is also a member of the 3rd Generation band and the chemistry is evident through out the 5 minute long song.

Word has it that Fatima has a few other songs in her quiver and she might drop an album sooner than we think.

Enjoy Gara Ndichauya and tell us what you think

St Georges College Rugby team leaves for tour to Kingswood, Grahamstown

Traditional rugby powerhouse St George’s College who are affectionally known as the dragons left today for a week-long rugby tour in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The Dragons will take part in the Kingswood 125th Jubilee Rugby festival which runs from  6 April to 10 April.

St Georges will be using this festival as a dress rehearsal of the upcoming school’s rugby season where they hope to better than last year.

Zimbuzz Sports managed to catch up with their head coach Brendon Brider before departure and had this to say “ I mainly looking forward to knowing my players better and what they capable of doing on this tour.

Also to look the little we’ve worked on in terms of practice, we also will evaluate our systems and see what needs to change leading into the season” he said.

The Dragons tour opener is on Saturday at 2 pm in the afternoon against Hilton college from who have a rich sporting history and have produced like of ex-Springbok captain Bob Skinstad.

St George’s second match is pencilled Monday 8 April against Eastern cape giants Graeme College who play a similar brand of rugby as St Georges college and is poised to be an intriguing encounter. Especially the battle between the two backlines who have massive pace.

The Dragons wrap up their tour with a date with Clifton from Durban and on paper, this looks like the easier fixture of the entire trip. It’s a clash that could go either way on the day.

Andy Muridzo rejoins Military Touch Movement

Following his acrimonious depature from Jah Prayzah’s ambitious Military Touch Movement project, Andy Muridzo is headed back home.

The musician left the stable in March 2018 barely a year after appending his signature to the record label.

Andy had no kind words for his former boss when he decided to terminate his contract.

“I no longer want anything to do with MTM. I want out. Rather, I’m practically out but still with them on paper. I have a five-year contract that I signed last year though I’m working on terminating it,” he told the Sunday Mail in March 2018.

“Not a single thing I was promised on the contract has been fulfilled. Actually, Jah Prayzah wants all the good things for himself. He is not willing to assist others and is not a saint as most of you imagine him to be.”

However Baba Keketso has had a change of heart following closed door meetings that are believed to have been held sometime last December.

It is not yet clear though what has caused this u-turn but Zimbuzz has it on good record that Muridzo travelled to Nigeria in February this year to record a duet with Tiwa Savage, the collabo is part of the package that came with his new contract.

He is also set to travel to France to shoot the video to the song with Tiwa titled ‘Mamuda Wangu’

MTM manager, Keen Mushapaidze promised to get back to Zimbuzz with a written response confirming the contract.

Andy Muridzo on the other hand just confimed the new song.

“Yes, I have a new song featuring Tiwa Savage and it’s going to be on my new album Shiri yamambo,” he told Zimbuzz.

“I can’t comment on the Military Touch Movement issue, you will need to contact Keen for that.”

Ladies and gentlemen you have been FOOLED, Happy Fools’ Day
