Zimbabwe Sables wrapped up their Africa Gold cup preparations with an emphatic 30-07 win over the Netherlands at the Rugby Stadium Amsterdam
Despite dominating set pieces a noticeable worrying department for the sables was kicking for posts. A lot of points were left on the kicking tee, missing 4 penalties and 2 conversions.
Zimbabwe drew first blood courtesy of a Takudzwa Chieza try which was converted by skipper Hilton Mudariki.
Sables stretched the lead to 10-00 through a close-range penalty by debutant fullback Takudzwa Musingwini.
Zimbabwe kept on piling the pressure and this time Matthew McNabb got his name on the score sheet when he planted a try in the corner which Musingwini then failed to convert.
The Netherlands finally got in the game in the last 10 minutes of the first half when they caught the Sables napping, Liam Stone ran in for their first try and was converted by fly-half Mees Van Oord.
Sables finished the half strongly as Musingwini slotted a penalty at the stroke of half time which put the visitors in a commanding 18-07 lead.
Zimbabwe put on a dominant second half, especially at scrum time, they ripped the hosts into shreds and struggled off their own feed, conceding a lot of penalties.
Sables capitalised scoring two more tries from Musingwini and replacement hooker Liam Larkan as they finished the match stronger.
Zimbabwe’s attention will now shift to the Africa Gold Cup Quarter finals where they are set to play West African giants Ivory Coast.
Netherlands-based Zimbabwean artist Vimbai Zimuto will this weekend sing the National Anthem as the Sables of Zimbabwe take on the Dutch national rugby side.
Zimbabwe’s senior national rugby team will take on the higher-ranked Netherlands team affectionately known as The Oranges at the Rugby Stadium Amsterdam on June 25.
The match is part of the preparations for next month’s Rugby Africa Cup to be held in France.
Speaking to Zimbuzz Sport Zimuto was ecstatic at the opportunity to perform for his national team.
“They want me to sing the national anthem,so I’m going to do it,” she briefly told us.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Sables coach, Brendan Dawson has named his squad for the Test match against the Netherlands.

Highly rated Zimbabwe and Reims midfielder Marshall Munetsi has caught the eye of Brighton & Hove Albion coach Graham Potter.
According to a report in the Daily Mail Munetsi, is on the Seagulls’ radar after impressing in the French top flight.
Graham Potter is keen to replace Yves Bissouma in midfield this summer.
The Zimbabwe international, who turned 26 on Wednesday, has been impressing in the French league where his statistics have compared favourably with some of the best midfielders in the country.
Munetsi’s figures, notably on interceptions and defensive duels won in game, put him ahead of the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni who joined Real Madrid from Monaco earlier this month and Boubacar Kamara who left Marseille for Aston Villa.
Brighton’s analysts are understood to have reported favourably along with scouts and he is under consideration as they look to fill the void left by Yves Bissouma’s departure to Tottenham.
Munetsi, who scored four goals in 22 games last season after coming back from injury, only signed a new contract last month but Reims could be willing to sell for around £7million.
Tanaka Munyenyiwa graces the Television screen with such presence, beauty, and rare strength.
At 22 years, her sweet but commanding personality on the 8 pm ZBC News host chair makes it worthwhile to watch as one gets to digest what’s been happening in the land of Zimbabwe.
Having shot to stardom as a 16-year-old model after being crowned Miss Teen Zimbabwe in 2016 she went on to represent on the grand stage at the Miss Teen World whose title had just been renamed Miss Teen Continents.
Her broadcasting journey started off as a presenter on Y.G.T (Young Gifted and Talented) and later on transitioned to News and Current Affairs.
Young as the journey began, she still continues to work devotedly on her craft and her passion and work seep into everything she does.
“My broadcasting journey started off as a presenter on Y.G.T. I then transitioned to News and Current Affairs, however, I had to re-audition from scratch like everyone else. Upon making it past the auditions I, together with a few others, had to undergo training for a few weeks,” she told Zimbuzz.
“Upon completion of the training, I did my first Live News-Flash. I was immediately promoted to lunchtime News, and then to the Main News.”
Though still only 22 years it feels like we have known her all our lives, she reflects on her path and the lessons learnt from being thrust into the media spotlight in her early years.
“I did learn some lessons. Some came in a way of discovery and I also did forgive myself for not knowing any better.
“This may sound cliche but not until you encounter things that hit you in the face with that revelation,” said Tanaka Munyenyiwa.
She says along the way she learned resilience and standing for her own right, learning to never adopt people’s fears and also to be very careful of the voices she listens to.
“I would really like to thank the amazing Zbc News and Current Affairs team. They took us through the best grooming and training upon making it past the auditions. I am very grateful to some of the members who saw potential in me way before, and greatly recommended that I audition,” she added.
Her parents have been her greatest support, this reporter recalls how they were protective of her even when conducting interviews with media, they would accompany and guide her.
Tanaka Munyenyiwa
“My parents have been the most supportive of my journey inclusive of my siblings. I do believe parental support is very important,” she recalls.
“Some good doors opened up for me for example; through modelling and upon contesting at Miss Teen Continents. I really emphasize this because with my own eyes I have seen some girls feeling so shattered when their parents/guardians disapprove of them entering even a known and authentic pageant,” she added.
Multitasking the demands of work, personal life, as well as school, is something Tanaka has to be good at. Her days are not at all the same.
“My days are quite diverse. However, on a typical day, I wake up, get ready and attend lectures. After my lectures which finish at different times each day, I also prepare for a bulletin,” she revealed.
Her days involve a lot of travelling and having to be on time at different venues whilst in between the times and days doing personal research, preparations or study whether it is school or work-related.
Preparing for work involves a good meal and sometimes good rest and recreation.
“When it comes to food, I prefer cooked salty foods like french fries and I’m less of a sweet tooth.
“I don’t have a particular favourite hangout place but unless it’s a road trip, I like indoor venues, she tells Zimbuzz.
In fashion, she is not much into brands but prefers simplicity and elegance but for a good scent, she has a particular preference.
“I’m not too particular about the brand, but for my outfits, less is more. I don’t like too much detail or too many colour combinations at once.
“For perfume, I like a very fresh scent with a hint of a sweet scent. The fresher the better, I don’t like scents that are too heavy.”
“For a regular day, it may depend on what I will be doing that day. But I’m very low-key. I love comfort more, you shouldn’t be surprised to see me in a tracksuit and sneakers on a regular day.
“However when I have an event or even a news bulletin that is when I like to try to go all-out in expressing my self-styling skills. I really do like to dress up for events,” said Tanaka.
Following years as one of Afropop’s biggest lodestars, 2021 marked Dotman’s definitive star turn with the release of Hakuna Matata, his debut album that found him tempering his hit-making proficiency with a dedication to making music to soundtrack all sorts of occasions.
That gambit paid off across the stretch of the project as he sounded both familiar and renewed, tunnelling into feelings of desire, thanksgiving, and cheerfulness.
Later in the year, the singer teamed up with hit-making disc jockey and musician, DJ Neptune, for “Drunk In Love,” a collaboration that saw Dotman lean ever more into the nimble flows that made Hakuna Matataa remarkable body of work.
Over a jaunty beat that features maximal shakers and percussive drivers, the duo complements each other to a tee as Dotman operates in and around the song’s pockets to weave his whispery delivery while DJ Neptune gives his signature callouts.
On his latest single, “Say No More,” the singer teams up with Peruzzi to serve a delightful showcase that blurs the line between street pop-powered vibes and pop extravaganza.
It follows the thematic base of being inspired by romance as the singer tells his attraction that he’s down to satisfy all her needs regardless of how implausible they might be.
When Peruzzi slides in to add his verse to the flow of things, the message is at its most clearest as both singers reach into each other’s world to pass their messages.
City lights in Harare are brightest on a Saturday night. The driveway towards the Rainbow Towers entrance was locked and entry points hell no you could lose an intestine in the scramble to get tickets checked.

Abisha Palmer warmed the stage as the arena continued to devour more revellers. Not forgetting Soul Jah Love’s hits which routinely frenzied the atmosphere.
Winky D’s rivalry with JP is now a natural tendency which the more we try to sanitize the dirtier it gets.
The Redefined Concert held last night in Harare at the HICC by Gateway Stream Music is the latest cosmetic thrown into the rhetoric. Concomitantly, Nutty O’s affectionate rise has earned him a seat amongst Zimbabwe’s contemporary music torch bearers.
Nutty O’s entrance with Open Doors was successful in declaring intent – to redefine. The ABX flag furthered the notion as it communicated determination by his fans to finally witness the ordainment of maybe the new king?
Nutty O went on to give fans a performance of a lifetime thanks to the Mustard Seed album. Shabach The Band anchored the plot whilst his dancers did justice to the aesthetics.
He dedicated his performance to the late Soul Jah Love and Calvin before sending props to Patoranking by giving an ode of his music.
It would not have been a complete narrative without thanking the brothers for mentorship until a point they get to fill up the giant HICC together. As anticipated, the hit song Handipere Power concluded the satisfactory set which gave people real value for their money.
Reviews for this show would have been centred on the aforementioned discourse of redefinition. It was not to be. A little after Nutty O’s performance, radio diva KVG announced JP as the next performer and conspiracy has it that backstage had a different script.
Winky D emerged as the second act. He too would redefine the concert. HICC has for years been lauded to be his fortress and an epic delivery by the Vigilance Band left the audience awestruck.
The Gaffa had to rest the HICC choir to tease his upcoming single XYZ and the witty lyricism is yet to fail.
Jah Prayzah is a formidable performer but coming after Winky D was a gross miscalculation.
Immediately after the latter’s performance, the arena started emptying up. It became an uphill task to engage an already jogged-out audience. He prematurely left the stage without performing his latest single Furuwa as Goto accompanied revellers to the exit.
The whole experience of yesterday has little memory of Jah Prayzah taking part and this has twisted the conversation and robs Nutty O of deserved attention.
Things could have been different had JP performed before Winky D? Share with us your feedback.
Morgan Heritage one of the greatest families in the history of music, especially Reggae, may be returning to Zimbabwe in the summer.
According to the ‘Island Vibes Africa Tour’ announcement flyer seen by Zimbuzz and widely shared on social media, the legendary Jamaican band is listed to host two shows, one in Harare on October 14 and the second in Kadoma on October 15.
The other countries named on the flyer are South Africa with two shows, Uganda, Malawi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Senegal and Seychelles.
The said flyer is however not available on any of the band’s official platforms including their website.
Its been 4 years since the Grammy award-winning ensemble last performed in Zimbabwe having done so in December of 2018 courtesy of David House Promotions.
The first time they were here thanks to 2Kings Entertainment the show was held on the 8th of October 2016 although initially pencilled for October 14 at the HICC dates had to be moved to pave way for Charles Manyuchi for his WBC Silver title fight against Frenchman Damien at the same venue.
Lions have been crowned the NPL T20 Blast champions after they held their cool at the death to clinch a thrilling final against Westside at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.
Coached by former national team captain Elton Chigumbura the academy players ended the competition unbeaten.
Chigumbura also won coach of the tournament.
It was indeed a cracker of a game as Kudakwashe Macheka defended eight runs off the last over, which included two run-outs, to give the academy side a three-run win.
Chasing 171 for victory, Westside were sailing along at 155 for four until Lions struck twice in the 18th over, bowled by Nkosilathi Nungu, to seize the initiative.
First, Tinashe Muchawaya, gifted a life the previous ball, holed out a catch to Bright Phiri at third man after hitting 19 from 13 balls, and then a throw by Brad Evans from deep mid-wicket saw opening batter Clive Chitumba run out while attempting a second run.
He had scored a brilliant 68 off 47 balls, with seven fours, and his dismissal left Westside needing 13 runs off the last two overs to claim the silverware.
Evans took the penultimate over which he bowled brilliantly, giving away only five runs and in the process having Victor Nyauchi caught at the wicket for a golden duck.
John Masara and Prosper Mugeri were now charged with the task of making eight runs in six balls, with both teams and the spectators on the tenterhooks.
First ball, Johnathan Campbell flung it from long-on for the wicketkeeper, Clive Madande, to complete a run-out that sent Masara packing for three off three.
The next man in, Vincent Masekesa, stole a single before brilliant work in the field resulted in another run-out, Mugeri departing for one to leave his side requiring five runs off the last three balls.
A dot ball followed, Tendai Chatara got a single, no run came off the final delivery and wild celebrations erupted as Lions completed a perfect campaign in which they have won all their NPL T20 Blast matches!
Earlier, Lions, batting first on winning the toss, suffered an early setback after their big-hitting veteran opener Cephas Zhuwao was sent back to the pavilion for one, caught behind off Chatara’s first ball of the match to make the score three for one in the second over.

Aliakbar Hamid and Bright Phiri then put on 31 for the second wicket before Donald Tiripano separated them in the sixth over, as Phiri – who made 10 off 17 balls – skyed a catch to backward square leg.
After blasting 33 off 23 balls, with one six and five fours, Hamid’s fine innings came to an end and Lions were now down to 57 for three in the ninth over.
Madande and Campbell then mustered a 61-run stand for the fourth wicket, with Madende being the more aggressive as he smote a six and three fours before the pair was parted off the first ball of the 16th over.
Campbell was however the first to depart, caught at extra cover off Tiripano, having faced 18 balls for his 21, which included two fours.
Madande followed him back to the dugout in the 17th over after holing out to wide long-off, but his brilliant knock of 46 off 34 balls, with a six and four fours, had catapulted Lions to 132 for five with 21 deliveries to go.
Chatara came back into the attack to bowl the penultimate over and immediately trapped Evans (10) lbw before he got Tashinga Musekiwa (9) caught at backward point – 148 for seven.
Nungu then produced a brilliant cameo in the last over, whacking Muchawaya for a four past long-off before carting the next delivery over the boundary on his way to 17 not out off just eight balls, as Lions finished their innings strongly at 170 for seven.
Chatara was the standout bowler with three wickets for 10 runs off his three overs, while Tiripano picked two for 28 off his four overs.
In reply, Westside had the worst possible start after Tarisai Musakanda fell for a golden duck off the second ball of the first over, bowled by Evans.
Kevin Kasuza came in to join Chitumba and together they added 46 for the second wicket before, in the sixth over, Macheka had Kasuza caught at mid-off for 37, scored off 28 balls and including seven fours.
By the 13th over, they were down to 99 for four following the dismissals of Sauramba (4) and Tiripano (12).
Chitumba was however still there and blasted 68 from 47 balls to set up a platform from which the supporting cast merely had to hold their nerve to go past the finish line.
Unfortunately for the Mutare-based team, they failed to do so as Lions fought back to clinch the silverware in a nail-biting finish.
This weekend will witness the launch of the Community Father of the Year Awards and Father of the Year Awards at Marina Convention Center at Longcheng Plaza in Harare.
The event starts at 6 pm.
Father’s Day is a celebration of fathers, honouring fatherhood, paternal bonds and the role fathers play in society. It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
Mercy Mushaninga, organising the awards, tells us that the awards will honour father in two categories.
“We are Celebrating 50 Best Fathers in Zimbabwe by honouring them on Father’s Day this Sunday 19th of June 2022,” she said.
“Leading in the Categories is Mr Alex Mashamhanda for Community Father of the Year and Mr Washington Matiyenga for Father of the Year.”
Community Father of the Year Award.
This Award is for fathers who have been nominated by the community as Best Community Fathers through the work that they do in improving the community by giving to charity, helping the less privileged and offering free service to the community.
Father of the Year Award
This award is for fathers who have contributed well to their family, father’s who have shown love to their family and friends. The nominations are done by the wife, family members, relatives and friends.
In traditional African society, the naming ceremony announces the birth of a newborn, it is an avenue to introduce the child to the extended family, the larger community, and above all, it confers on the child a name.
The naming ceremony of a new baby is one very important rite of passage in life as the name given to a baby can have an influence on their personality.
In other cultures, the same is done for a prince. The name will eventually DEFINE his path and destiny.
The way we see it REDEFINED, although he is not a new artist, will charter the narrative and discourse for Nutty O.
On REDEFINED Nutty O will be performing with two Kings, Jah Prayzah and Winky D.
Perhaps this is his Naming Ceremony.
An announcement of the new addition to the Kingdom, an heir and probably one who is going to rule not in the too distant future.
In this vast territory a third King may be.
In a year that Nutty O has seen so much success, June 18 2022 is not just another show but an opportunity to cement his status as the mustard seed.
Others like entrepreneur Mr Mutarisi of Nash Paints boldly declared and welcomed him to the ‘Big Five’
And he doesn’t dispute it.
“I do not dispute with Mr Tinashe Mutarisi because who feels it knows it. I also cannot say otherwise because I do believe I am one of the best in the continent, ” he told Zimbuzz.
Giving people an experience is what Nutty O and his team say they are focusing on.
“There has been a lot of changes, especially on how we are going to approach this show, from the band side and delivery, I want to give people an unforgettable experience
“This stage is different, has a different intensity as far as I am concerned. this is my shot in the big league performance-wise and I have to deliver and fortify my position,” he added.
It will not be Nutty O’s first time sharing the stage with Jah Prayzah and Winky D, but somehow the aura in the atmosphere is different, something tells this could be a crowning moment.
“It’s always a pleasure to work alongside Winky D or Jah Prayzah and to be sharing a stage with both in this critically acclaimed showstopper show of just the three of us makes it even more maad,” Nutty O told Zimbuzz in a wide-ranging interview
“My brand has registered some mouthwatering conquests in the past several months, and mass attention which the two brands have basked in ahead of me, so headlining alongside them is yet another step in the big direction in the grand scope of things. It is affirmation into the Giants’ league. And I am proud of myself and grateful.”
He tells me that the Redefined Show will rank up there with the other pivotal and transformational events. For him, it’s one of those that set precedence and unlocks the next level of growth and operation. The beginning of yet another chapter.
His parting words are those of someone eager to share with the world what he has been redefining.
“Come let’s have a mustard seed experience, it is a great time to be alive, with your support we can reach the world stages even in this form.
“Thank you in advance for going through the REDEFINED experience with us. I already feel the love from every shout-out, every share and every ticket secured,” he said.
