Talk Show Queen Mai Chisamba off to Australia

Popular talk show hostess Dr Rebecca Chisamba says she is relishes her Australian tour scheduled for next month.

Mai Chisamba who hosts the popular ‘Mai Chisamba Show’ on ZBCTV will be holding two shows one in Perth on March 30 and Sydney on March 22, 2019.

“I am humbled that people out there are noticing the work that I do. As you know the show is about promoting our local language and also our cultural values so I am happy Zimbabweans are now proud of who they are.

“For me it’s about connecting with fellow countrymen and women and I look forward to it,” she said.

Themed “Morari naMai Chisamba” both shows are promoted by Christina Muchenagumbo aka Chrissy.

“We chose that theme because as much as we are discussing issues that are sensitive and pertinent it will be done in an environment that is happy, it will be an elegant red carpet night, good food and good vibes,” Christina more popularly known as Chrissy said.

She explained when pressed further on the visit by Dr Chisamba: “Zimbabweans living in the diaspora have had experiences with depression, suicide, marital issues, domestic violence etc.

As much as we have lots of services in the country to help deal with issues we thought as a community it would be ideal to have someone whom we can identify with to discuss this is a neutral environment.”

Chrissy said it was time to get together as Zimbabweans under one roof despite “religion, dialect, gender or colour because we all face the same issues and problems.”

Topics to be discussed are: How to raise children in the diaspora maintaining our traditional values. Supporting families back home and how to do it with stressing oneself.

Role change in the diaspora, women earning more than men. Depression and suicide in the diaspora.

Domestic violence and high rate of divorces people divorcing after many years in marriage.

How to balance work, home and family as well as maintaining a healthy love life while spending time with each other.

According to Chrissy there are panelists for both shows male and female. “This is an event for both ladies and gentlemen who are 18 years and above.

We have made the shows diverse because over the years we have seen ladies involved in a lot of groups and supporting each other.

“This time we would like to put all the heads together as a family, as a unit and as a people and it’s not to be missed!”

Chrissy is based in Sydney who runs Baking with Chrissy and her daughter Mazvita.

The 40-year-old has been baking for seven years having been a self-taught baker. She said her passion was to make sure everyone tasted her cakes and also be able to make their own.

#StyleBuzz: Fashion Futures comes to Bulawayo

Chenesai in partnership with British Council and Nataal Media will from the 8th to 10th of March host Fashion Futures an all female-led multinational project.

The programme was Curated by Chenesai Mukora-Mangoma to foster creative engagement for change and to encourage collaboration by bringing together four content creators from varied artistic genres including fashion, beauty, visual art and anthropology.

The team includes Zimbabwean visual artist Lucia Nhamo, British Ghanaian writer, curator and visual anthropologist Adjoa Armah, Malawian beauty and wellness expert Thokozani Phiri and Namibian design and fashion creative Leah Misika.

Collectively, they are carrying out groundbreaking research on sustainability within underground fashion industries.

Each of them is tasked with producing content for a country other than their own – Lucia for the UK, Adjoa for Zimbabwe, Thokozani for Namibia and Leah for Malawi.

The project falls in line with British Council priority areas, which include promoting collaboration, urban youth development and empowerment.

As the content creators journey through their research process, youth engagement will be a key component in exposing young people to the importance of developing sustainable fashion sectors.

“The body of work produced hopes to contribute to the framing of sustainable policy that will ensure that fashion is a lucrative trade for the young generation,” explains Chenesai.

Fashion Futures also hopes to highlight the fact that a well-established creative sector boosts culture and tourism.

Key dates for the project are centered in Zimbabwe. In March, Cultural Producer Lorraine Bgoya will host round table discussions with the project research team and local content creators at the Moto Republik hub in Harare.

This will be followed by various activities in Bulawayo, where content creators will explore tanneries in the vicinity, before exhibiting immersive,multi-media installations incorporating film, sculpture, textiles, photography, crafts and written texts.

A group of local creatives have been brought on board to collaborate in support of the project.

Rudo Nondo, the country coordinator for Fashion Revolution will conduct sustainable fashion training for value chain stakeholders during the content creators immersion program in Harare and Bulawayo.

Graffiti Art collective ‘Calligraph’ will employ their knack for colour to create the official project banner, while Adrian Zhou and Tatenda Kanengoni will oversee documentation of the project engagements through photography and film.

In Bulawayo, content producer Gilmore Tee will utilize his knowledge of the city to ensure that the team fully taps into the undiscovered local fashion talent.

The culmination of Fashion Futures will be final works by each creator – published on Nataal and other digital media and social platforms globally – that document and imagine new narratives for sustainable fashion.

Tinashe Has Parted Ways With her Record Label

Zimbabwean RnB superstar Tinashe has parted ways with her record label RCA, according to her longtime manager, Mike Nazzaro.

Though Nazzaro made sure to make it clear that this split was initiated by the singer and not the other way around.

Contrary to reports circulating on the internet, “she wasn’t dropped,” Nazzaro told Rolling Stone.

“We initiated for her to be released. It was a positive split for her. It’s giving her back creative control.” He says the exit “took a little while to figure out,” but has been final for “a month or so.”

According to Rolling Stone Tinashe is no longer listed on the label’s roster page on its website.

Tinashe publicly announced her RCA signing in a YouTube video in 2012. She released her major-label debut, Aquarius, in 2014.

That album included her breakout single “2 On,” which eventually earned a platinum certification.

Two years later, Tinashe put out the Nightride mixtape, and two years after that, she released the Joyride album, which included collaborations with both hip-hop stars (Future) and indie darlings (Little Dragon).

However, as noted by Rolling Stone, the two sides have had rifts that have occasionally surfaced to the public over the course of their business connection.

In a 2016 Rolling Stone interview she cited “creative differences” with the company, and then (shortly afterwards) she says that their A&R department pushed her to write a song despite the fact that she couldn’t “get behind the lyrics.”

Despite those hiccups, Nazzaro says that the recent break-up was an amicable one, and that it was “a respectful separation on both sides.”

He added that “it was time to part ways,” and that they’re currently deciding if they need new partners.

Ahhh…Vimbai Zimuto Just Crushes Trevor Dongo’s Date!

We must be seeing things. This can’t be right. Tongues-wagger songstress and actress Vimbai Zimuto unblushingly walked on and ruined the romantic ballad King Trevor Dongo’s date.

That is so awkward, although it is in a romantic way.

We mean, not an actual date, but like a scene in a romcom or music video.

So, as you might have probably heard, the two Vimbai Zimuto and Trevor released their duet on Valentine’s Day entitled ‘A Lil Bit More’.

The song is about two adults who have been BFFs since their salad days. They know each other’s habits, quirks and obsessions.

They have been there to see the good and bad in each other and have stuck with each other through thick and thin.

Now, as all adults do, they have opened themselves to the world of romance and are both dating, not each other but other people.

Unbeknownst by them or by the boy played by Trevor, there is a part of their friendship that they have never talked about.

Vimbai wants more than friendship. She wants Trevor, who by the way happens to be in a resplendent relationship with another girl.

Well, something gotta give, as we all know that falling for your best friend is not easy. You don’t know whether you should let him know or not because of course, you wouldn’t want to risk losing the friendship.

At the same time, it’s also heartbreaking to see him and be near him almost every day because you just fall harder each time.

We understand your struggles, but there is also a fine line between a fairy tale and a waste of time.

That being so, what did Vimbai then do?

Well, she takes a chance when she sees Trevor and his girlfriend enjoying their date and as nasty girls do, she walked over and steals the man in broad daylight.

Hopefully, the feeling is mutual.

The video to the song was Directed by SAP (Studio Art Pictures) and stars award-winning choreographer John Cole.

Part of what we could say is it makes good TV.

Video aside, there’s also that delicious, almost unbearable musical climax beneath this song. The vocals blend and lyrics of obsession is near irresistible.

Something happened in Hip Hop & We might have Missed it

With all the attention going to Jah Prayzah and Winky D, arguably the country’s two top acts, Zim hip Hop artists also dropped some great body of work.

Four hip hop videos were released and seem to have set the tone for what looks to be an intresting musical year.

This was a clear hint to artists that music lovers are no longer satisfied with a head-banging or harmonically rich track only but the complementation of camera work.

Apart from the genres of the chart topping duo (Winky D and Jah Prayzah) Zim hip hop artists also begun this year on a high note.

Since the beginning of this year a few local hip hop productions have been released and they are all trailblazing.

The energy levels with new artists in the game Probeatz and Union 5 are the best hints of what’s ahead.

The renowned beatboxers joined the rap gang as Probeatz released a well rounded video of ‘Very Limited Edition’ and Union 5 also introduced himself with an electrifying ‘Hona Magetsi’.

On the other hand Takura never disappoints both with vocals and in the camera frames of the elite director Aaron Mheta of AM Pictures.

Mr Okay Okay set the pace as he unveiled ‘Noise’ a good tune on a trap beat.

The absurdity of Gary Mapanzure and Hillzy ‘TV Room’ is deeper than you think.

The duo delivered one of the best Valentines gifts in form of TV Room. The much awaited collaboration met the expectations and had a good reception online.

As videos adds value to a track- local directors are playing a pivotal role on upping the Zim Hip Hop levels.

SimDoc, AM Director, Andy Cutta, Blaqs, Naxo films just to mention a few are doing a great work by showcasing a high level of creativity.

Can Anything Be Smoother & Valentine’s Worthy Than Adrian Tate’s Song?

In the evolution of music, there was a time when this art used to be about real talent; encapsulating timbres, well-meaning lyrics, blood-tickling accompaniments.

Agonisingly, an open-handed goodbye to that trend.

Thanks to the advent of aggressive rock n’ roll, hip hop and whatever that 808-laden form of music we hear everywhere these days.

Any form of noise that can make a sound and has a sonic pattern is now music and is bopping, making mediocre artists into overnight stars.

The point here is, in a hugely biased world where music absorption is determined by who has bigger and louder fan camps, lesser known and little-celebrated mushrooming virtuosos’ game-changing creative contributions continues to go unnoticed or little attention is paid to them.

Blame it on the powerful music labels for making the professional musician landscape way too tight to make room only for a handful of artists who they feel deserve to be on the front lines.

Such a reflection is what we got when we were going through a batch of Valentine’s Day “ballad” releases that came to our radar.

Almost every artist that matters, romantically, released something, it was either a piece of music, video, snap or a statement.

Yes, that still counts as a release.

Neo-soul artist Adrian Tate aka Mr Ekeskuzu Me also threw his hat in the Valentine’s game with the release of his latest single “Murudo”

Quite possibly the sweetest and balmiest three minutes twenty-three seconds ever recorded for Valentine’s Day this year, the song comes with an appetitive video courtesy of Dir Dave.

To the uninitiated readers in the neo-soul world, this genre is all about punch-you-in-the-gut emotion, which is why it never really goes out of fashion.

From the pioneers in the face of D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Maxwell, it’s a timeless genre that’s gripped us for decades and continues to with the new-age phenomena such as Adrian Tate.

Adrian’s “Murudo” can best be described as “of ripienos talking and vocals tickling”.

Here the soft, hazy harmonies combine with heartfelt lyrics so utterly devoid of artifice or florid touches that they could melt already-melted ice cream.

At no point do you ever doubt that Adrian is the real deal; his saccharine vocals have the air of someone who has found himself inescapably in love.

As satiny as it gets, his voice is barely a velvety whisper at times, as he coaxes and cajoles us all into a wet mess.

And then there’s that titillating belle in the video… hot enough to sweat every men’s collar.

Valentines are about love and usually, you wouldn’t love a fast, abrupt uptempo song to make love to.

All that needed is a soft, soul, mushy tune that proclaims love from its crescendos, melodies and lyrics.

Well, a hat tip to us. This soulful ballad could become your new love-making cult gem that you can get boo’d up to.

Gemma then Dropped a Bikini Pic in The Garden, Imajeni?

If it happens that Gemma Griffiths lost her voice today, she can sure trade the microphone for a modelling career.

Not only is she on everyone’s’ lips right now, the singer is serving some bod goals too.

In the midst of all the attention following her blockbuster collaboration with Winky D on the song MuGarden, Gemma’s stock just rose over night.

In between playing with the python, rearranging Wink D’s dreadlocks, the Garden experience provided a picture perfect moment to capture her mouthwatering stunning body.

Taking to Instagram early morning today (15 Feb) the singer simply captioned the picture “I found the “MuGarden” ?.

Sweet as she is she, beyond any doubt know how to pull a tantalising bod pic out of the sack.
