Winky D & Gemma — The First Couple in the Garden of Love

Since perfect love only exists in fairy tales, let’s get classical or say let’s revisit a unique classical Greek myth, shall we?

Cupid, the god of desire, attraction and affection, the son of love goddess Venus and god of war Mars was a handsome-looking lad.

This fiery youth evolved to carry a bow and arrow with magical properties that, when shot through a lover’s heart, will bring their affection right to your doorstep, making him the perfect symbol for Valentine’s Day.

While this may just be a legend, we have an even better way to shoot straight to a lover’s heart or cure a broken one on this special day.

It is through music. Today, as love is in the air everywhere, the digital waves are saturated with scads of ballads being released as soundtracks to celebrate the phenomenal day of Valentine.

Earlier on, we shed a green light on the impeccable video by Jah Prayzah and Misred entitled Kunerima.

Now, we’re coming back to you with yet another roarer.

True to their word, Winky D and Gemma Griffiths have delivered on their promise and released their highly anticipated song and video, MuGarden.

Speaking of tapping into worlds beyond our intuition, while Jah Prayzah took us to what could probably be the 1960s, Winky D and Gemma snaffled us to the undated time of creation, a world that was only lived by the first couple that ever put its feet on mother earth – Adam and Eve.

Tailored by SOS Media Production, the video shows us the two having a perfect time in the middle of what appeared like an imaginary Garden of Eden.

We all know the story of Adam and Eve. It has been told repeatedly before in all the forms of good literature.

For one, it’s a story of a beautiful relationship that turned lethal after the two gave room to deception and betrayal.

For others, it’s a love story that played out the way it was supposed to, you may have heard.

Whatever the case was, Winky D and Gemma are recreating the narrative, giving it a new shape.

The duet is about wanting to preserve a perfect moment that may pass, but might at least be extended and treasured in memory.

It’s a plea, in a sense, for love unattained of course, but the body-moving, carefree approach leaves little doubt to the two’s sincerity.

The song finds them in full-on Cupid’s-arrow love-struck mode and if love is a drug, then they were on a heavy dose when they make Mugarden. Simply stated, plainly sung, no one can accuse the two of overdoing it.

Some songs are about being in love. This cannonball is a testimony to the awesome, world-shaking power of love itself. It may ring a little sentimental but what is the purpose of Valentine’s Day if not to get a little mushy?

For two singers who are approaching the peaks of musical achievement through astounding ambition and innovation, this restrained and simple love song shows just how talented each was beneath it all.

It is a fascinating experience to see Gemma, a fan of Winky D’s work, finally getting to collaborate with him.

A well-realised creative pairing, the two trade sensual verses with a smooth, tenderness in a treacly ballad that might just make you want to tap or hum along as well.

Notably, the lyrics are among some of Winky’s most nuanced and lovely to date.
What could be more perfect for this holiday?

Could this duet be considered to be the gold standard against which all romantic standards are judged?

Watch the video and listen to the song, then you let us know what you think in the comments section below.

We Never Imagined life in the 1960s could be this Beautiful

A pop career does not only requires a steady stream of catchy music, but a whole lot of visuals to go with it.

It works best if you can create something truly original, sure, but often pop music videos are a big old mashup of diverse images drawing on everything from modern art, fashion photography, history, cinema, and street culture.

Even then, it’s not guaranteed that the result will truly strike people and get them talking.

A carefully deployed movie-like recreation, though, is almost certainly sure to grab people’s attention (nostalgia sells), and pretty much everyone’s done it at this point.

As most of us seem to know by now, Jah Prayzah has been creating African classic film-esque and rom-com-ish videos, from the mediocre visuals of Sungano to the par excellence Dzamutsana oculars.

Apparently, the star continues to ascend with every release, despite a few missteps.

Well, it’s Valentine’s week and the Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe-bred virtuoso is back with another eye scorcher from his recent album Chitubu, for the world pleasure.

The new video, Kunerima, shot and directed by Vusa Blaqs stars the alluring and coquettish media personality Samantha “MisRed” Musa.

Lucky for us, at least after those cosy, intimate and cheek-to-cheek pictures of the two we won’t be running around telling that they are an item.

In the video the tantalising MisRed plays the role of Jah Prayzah’s love interest, a role she delivers immaculately.

Set in perhaps in the 1960s epoch, the creative pair profiles in vintage outfits and they look stunning in them, well enough to make all the pop stars of that era and their raunchy video vixen smirk.

With Misred playing all difficult to get despite Jah Prayzah’s relentless sincere proposals, Kunerima is the mushy definition of a love song that becomes all the more powerful for it.

It has all the trappings of a by-the-numbers hopeless romantic ballad: the swooning, arpeggiated opening, a crescendo upbeat accompaniment, and lyrics whose blatant emotional manipulation ought to fall right apart under scrutiny.

Dzinde randasima ndicharidiridzira richatumbukira kuvariye (hope we get it right)/sango remasango tichayambuka dziva tichitevera shiri dziye

There’s real, undeniable hunger in JP’s luminous and robust vocal, the push and pull of the registers is subtler than expected, and the words reveal layers where true fidelity fights to overcome lingering despair.

For all that could be said, Kunerima is lullaby-simple in its structure. JP has again managed to woo us over with his creative input, echoing the way that when love feels right, it’s somewhere between a no-brainer and a miracle.

If there’s anyone out there whose heart doesn’t melt just a little when they watch this video, we’ll eat our hat.

The world seems to agree: the song has 180k and counting views on YouTube by the time of this publication.

By the way, we never imagined the 1960s this beautiful. Thanks to Jah, Misred and whoever was behind this video for the visual flashback. Where does that leave us as, time-watchers? That’s a case for another day.

Watch the video below and share with us what you think about it.

Powerful people in the Industry Out to Destroy Me – Jah Signal

Jah Signal has made some revelations that there are powerful people in the music industry who are out to get him.

The musician was responding to an article published by Hmetro on Wednesday February 13.

In the article headlined ‘Jah Signal Beds 15 Women in 6 Months’ Signal’s ex wife alleges that the dancehall singer bedded 14 other women when they were still married.

The ex-wife identified as Presh also accused the musician of infecting her with an STI.

Jah signal denied the allegations.

In an Instagram post he said there were industry gurus against his growth who are out to get him.

“We as a brand are going through a growth process and we are entering into a new dimension of penetrating other avenues of business and we understand that there are influential people in the upper echelons of the industry that are gunning to “Kudira Jecha” into our growth plan by smearing dirt onto the Jah Signal brand,” he wrote.

He however did not elaborate but went on to say that he is “an advocate and works with his Jah Signal Foundation to raise awareness about the stigma, treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS and the image of Jah Signal bedding over a dozen women goes against our brand core values.”

He said the story that he bedded multiple sexual partners is malicious.

“We categorically refute claims peddled in the H-Metro on the basis the claims and story is unfounded, untrue and has malicious intent to damage the integrity and growth of the Jah Signal and Swaah Family brand.”

He says his focus is now on bringing new music and the preparations for his UK tour in April 2019.

Natasha Muz returns with captivating new song ‘Zvenharo’

0

The reigning Zim Hip Hop Best Female artist Natasha Muz has released her first single of 2019.

She shows off her singing abilities which were visible even in her previous rap songs.

Zvenharo is a pop song laced on a RnB/Dancehall fused beat, On first listen you get the anticipation that she is going to switch over to her husky energetic raps.

That didn’t come, she sings throughout the entire three and a half minutes with such versatility of a veteran.

But we are not too surprised because a closer listen to her 2018 breakout song Handizi Tsaga point to a vocally gifted artist.

She seem to have found good chemistry at No Limits Entertainment the producers of her first hit song whom she has trusted once more with the 2019 jam.

The song which dropped February 12, two days shy of the red-hearted ‘holiday’ for lovers known as Valentine’s explores the love subject where the other part is putting effort while the other is almost passive.

In the song Natasha sings for the neglected lover, demands to be loved, laments about mistreatment all in one sad but beautiful piece of music.

February is jamming with new releases with others set to drop on the 14th but the early releases have been nothing but good music…I think we gonna have a good year.

Listen to Natasha Muz’ Zvenharo below

Dobba Don drops Sizzling track Room Tatata

Esteemed Zimdancehall followers will agree with me that whenever Dobba Don combines with Oskidit’s murder.

Dobba Don is a reinforcement of the fact that form is temporary but class is permanent.

His latest track Room Tatata is a testimony to this assertion. Of late the Mufakose bred dancehall singer has been engaged in various local genres spicing up hit songs with his gangsterish approach.

He has since returned to the dancehall scene with a well-knit societal and religious reflection in the form of Room Tatata.

In this tuneful literature Dobba Don exposes fraudsters who are masquerading as prophets.

Room Tatata can be the Shona version of Shaggy’s church heathen though different angles have been used.

Both songs aptly communicate how the church has ironically been abused, housing hypocrites and become a place for evil deeds.

The new song is hilarious and tackles the issue of fake prophecy, a trend in Zimbabwe.

The singer through a humorous rhyme addresses how fake prophets coerce clients to accept what they ‘supposedly’ see.

His spectacular flow and exciting storytelling skills will take him places. We surely cannot doubt the 4545 gangster don.

Your Wedding Could be on DStv… Here is How

After calling for bids for a local production team and a local presenter, the search is now on for the Zimbabwe couples whose weddings will feature in Zambezi Magic’s new reality television show, Our Perfect Wedding Zimbabwe.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said a call had been made for couples to apply to be featured in the show, with the deadline for applications set at Sunday, March 31.

“This show will be great fun and we hope everyone planning a wedding in the next few months will apply, and all they have to do to be considered is register their application online at www.zambezimagic.com,” she said.

“Our Perfect Wedding Zimbabwe is to be broadcast on DStv’s Zambezi Magic channel, as part of the ongoing drive to increase the level of Zimbabwean content on this platform for local talent and local stories.

Zambezi Magic was created to do just this, and here is an excellent platform for Zimbabweans to showcase their stories about their journeys to the altar.”

South African and Zambian versions of Our Perfect Wedding have so far been warmly received by DStv audiences across Africa and it is hoped the Zimbabwean version will be equally successful.

Seh Calaz’ Valentine’s Present ready for Unpacking

The previous year, you could never complete a reggae playlist without adding the voice of Boss Yala.

In 2018, SehCalaz dropped one of the greatest reggae products named Lovers reggae kickstape which was accompanied by hits like sorry, Rudo so and Tichasangana.

Calaz looks forward to replicating the same thing but this time on Valentine’s day.

The ZimDancehall chanter managed to charm and mesmerizefans last year at shows with his super reggae mixtape.

This year, fans have demanded another reggae compilation, the man did so and has announced that a reggae album called Love Story is coming.

Wrote Seh Calaz on his Facebook page, “as we are in the love season, it is right that the music relates to the mood.

“Mabhanditi nemaBhanditress get ready for more melodies, more love, more Mr Romeo…mabhanditi agara anogona kuparudo.”

Despite past years’ controversies of dirty lyrics, the multi-award winning artist has found in him a voice that can preach and reach to the hearts of those who find solace in music as evidenced by his previous reggae conscious products where he was able to spread soulful and heart- warming gospels.

Unlike last year’s compilation, 2019 Seh Calaz has roped in the likes of Jah Prayzah, Celsius and Ngoni Kambarami.

Renowned producer Oskid also has a hand in the project and we certainly cannot wait.

Boss Yala has been sending videos on his pages delivering the original copies to Boss Werras, Phillip Chiyangwa and the mighty Judgement Yard.

From snippets that have been circulating on social media the reggae sound is on point and he has advised fans to check his vevo account on the Valentines day.

So to the reggae conscious lovers and couples do not miss out, #lovestory is on its way!
