Chevrons Clinch series!

Zimbabwe Chevrons dismantled a hapless United Arab Emirates by 130 runs in the 3rd One Day International sealing the series in the process with one match to spare.

UAE won the toss and chose to field, they started well getting rid of inform Zimbabwe opening batsman Regis Chikabva just for 1 run in the second over, leaving the host stranded 2/1.

Solomon Mire and Craig Ervine managed to stabilize the ship with a great second wicket partnership of 104 runs.

Once again Mire failed to turn his good start into a huge total, giving away his wicket just for 40 runs.

Sean Williams was the pick of the batsman as he scored 109 runs of 89 balls. It was Williams 3rd ODI century and was duly awarded man of the match for his fine knock with the bat.

Craig Ervine was the scored highest scorer with 64 runs and the skipper PJ Moore carried his bat again scoring 58 runs as he made sure Zimbabwe finished their allotted 50 overs with a competitive score of 307-4.

Zimbabwe bowling attack functioned as a unit as everyone contributed by taking wickets.

Ryan Burl equalled his career-best taking 4-32. Sikander Raza and Kyle Jarvis took 2 wickets apiece. While seamers  Chris Mpofu and Donald Tiripano only managed one wicket each.

In the UAE side, only CP Rizwan and Muhammad Usman managed to contribute meaningful runs scoring  47 and 49 runs respectively as the other batsman around them crumbled.

Don’t Confuse Me – Baba Harare responds to NAMA Fashion Police

2018 Break out Kid Baba Harare has responded to the fashion police netizens who trolled him for a NAMA wardrobe malfunction.

The singer arrived on the #NAMA18 red carpet wearing a replica basketball jersey of the Chicago Bulls Legend Michael Jordan with a pair of denim jeans.

Watchers were left sceptical about just how accidental/intentional his red carpet mishap was, given his prior form in this area when he rocked the Star FM Awards in a designer suit early February.

However Baba Harare is having none of it as he has lambasted the watcher and ordered them to stop confusing him.

Taking to Instagram he wrote, “There is order in my disorderliness, any efforts to change that will confuse me.”

Chevrons Win Again

Zimbabwe Chevrons extended their series lead to 2-0 after beating the United Arab Emirates in second One-Day International by 4 runs via Duckworth Lewis method (D/L).

It was a match which experienced a lot of stoppages as it rained the greater part of the day.

Chevrons won the toss again and elected to field as the wicket conditions at Harare sports club seemed to be the same as the first ODI.

The bowling attack started like a house on fire as Kyle Jarvis took all the  3 wickets and UAE  were on the ropes as they were  12/3  inside the first 7  Overs.

The men from the Middle East managed to revive their innings with a solid 4th wicket partnership between Ghulam  Shabbar and Muhammed  Usman  which matched to get 109 runs before the rain interrupted play.

When play was resumed the overs were revised and the match was reduced to a 35 over game. Zimbabwe bowlers managed to get more joy as Jarvis picked another wicket finishing with career best of 4-17.

Donald Tiripano pick up 3 wickets while Tendai Chatara  only managed to get 1 wicket.

UAE  only managed to add 48 runs to their total finishing off their Innings with 169-9.

Chevrons needed 210 runs according to the revised total and struggled with the bat as they lost early wickets of Soloman Mire for a cheaply 14 runs, Sean Williams and Craig Ervine also perished modestly as they only put 17 and 13 runs respectively.

Regis Chikabva who is in a rich vein of form played a crucial role for the host by anchoring the innings scoring 78 runs off 101 balls.

Skipper PJ Moore played a captains knock as he made sure they stayed at par with  D/L  scoring 45 runs off 33 balls which earned him man of the match. The umpire eventual stopped play with 3 overs left due to bad light and Zimbabwe winning the match.

Hard lessons for St George’s College Rugby in SA

St George’s College Dragons concluded their week-long tour of South Africa on a bad note as they failed to register a single victory at the Kingswood college 125th Jubilee Rugby festival.

The traditional rugby powerhouse opened their tour with a bruising encounter against Hilton.

St George’s struggled upfront were they were bullied by their opponents who had a heavier pack of forwards and were had to content whenever they got going.

Dragons managed to restrict the Kwa-Zulu natal side to respectable score losing 21-12.

In the Second match, St George’s College entertained Graeme College who made light work of them and made sure they didn’t trouble the scorers losing 19-00.

The Dragons turned out to be their worst enemy with their decision making and game plan. They managed to dominate at set pieces especially at lineouts were they stole a lot of balls of Graeme throw.

Playing for territory would have been more ideal for them and pinning their opposite numbers in their own half.

St George’s finished off their road show with a crushing 17-43 defeat to Clifton college.

The scoreboard was not a true reflection of their final encounter. The boys from Harare managed to dominate territory and whenever they would manage to free up their pacey outside backs the likes of Rukudzo Munyeza.

The dragons looked dangerous but they were not clinical enough and it ended up costing them the match as they let Clifton of the hook several times.

The dragons will now have to regroup and take in all the lessons they have learnt on tour as they turn their attention to the upcoming school’s rugby season.

Zimbabwe crush UAE in the first ODI

Zimbabwe Chevrons opened the 4-ODI series against the United  Arab Emirates on a positive note at Harare sports club, winning the first One-Day International by 7 wickets.

It was a match that the host impressed both with the ball and the bat.

The Chevrons skipper Peter Joseph Moor won the toss and elected to field. The wicket had a lot of moisture due to the rains from the previous day and offered some sort of assistance to bowlers earlier on.

Zimbabwe bowling attack capitalised on the wicket condition making quick inroads on the UAE batting order especially the front line seamer Kyle Jarvis and Donald Tiripano who both claimed  2 wickets each.

UAE batting never got going in this match as wickets fell at regular intervals with only Mohammad Boota giving some sort of resistance by a knock of  36 Runs.

While chevron spin bowlers refused to be left of the party as off spin Brandon Mavute picked  2 wickets and Sikandar  Raza only 1 wicket.

Regis Chikabva reached a special milestone were he became the second wicketkeeper in the history of Zimbabwe after the legendary Andy Flower  take five catches in a single ODI.

Tendai Chatara posted the best bowling figures only going for 25 runs for his 3 wickets and was rightfully rewarded man of the match.

Zimbabwe batsman Sean Ervine carried on his impressive domestic   form into international cricket scoring 51 runs of 46 balls. Sadly Ervine gave away his wicket cheaply playing one shot too many

United Arab Emirates Team: Ashfaq Ahmed, Rohan Mustafa, Ghulam Shabber (wk), Chirag Suri, Shaiman Anwar, Muhammad Usman, Mohammad Boota, Imran Haider, Mohammad Naveed (c), Sultan Ahmed, Qadeer Ahmed

ZIMBABWE Team: Solomon Mire, Regis Chakabva (wk), Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, Timycen Maruma, PJ Moor (c), Sikandar Raza, Donald Tiripano, Tendai Chatara, Kyle Jarvis, Brandon Mavute

ZIFFT Launches ‘Narratives From Zimbabwe’ Project

The Zimbabwe International Film and Festival Trust (ZIFFT) has launched its ‘Narratives from Zimbabwe’ project to enhance Zimbabwe’s history and culture knowledge base, by recording on film Zimbabwe’s history, culture, and social foundation.

Zimbabwe has a strong heritage that is being lost because we have tended to rely on oral and unrecorded transmission, thus putting this highly valuable knowledge at risk of being lost.

ZIFFT is working in close partnership with the Zimbabwe Heritage Trust on this project.

The project’s aim is to identify and capture Zimbabwe’s narratives as audio and video recordings, to create a resource that creative practitioners can draw from to produce new cultural artefacts for society to interact with.

The initiative is designed to encourage a culture of recording these narratives for the future with mechanisms for other organisations and society at large to contribute to populating the resource developed during the project.

There is a wealth of historical narrative resident in our elderly citizens that, if captured, would provide an invaluable resource for film makers and other creative and cultural workers, and future generations to draw from.

With each passing day, information is lost, thus making it imperative that we capture as much of these stories that form the foundation of who we are as a people.

Additionally, the large volume of information available out there is not necessarily in a format that makes it easy to use, especially by the younger generation.

The Narratives from Zimbabwe project will present its information in the form of an interactive digital archive driven website.

All that anyone interested in knowing about Zimbabwe’s history, heritage, and culture needs to do will be to visit the website and click on a specific area of interest, and sample the brief introductions and trailers to choose the narrative they wish to follow.

Funding for the project has been provided by the European Union and INTERARTS Foundation for International Cultural Cooperation, Barcelona as part of its  ‘Culture at Work Africa’ Project.

‘Culture at Work Africa’ is a consortium of eight African, European and international partners who have joined forces with the European Union to create new opportunities and mobilise stakeholders to promote intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity in urban and peri-urban areas in Africa as drivers for social inclusion and sustainable human development.

The project, launched in February 2018 will end in 2021.

#NewMusic: Marcus Mafia is All About his ‘Shuga’

Marcus Mafia has dropped his first single of 2019 and the rapper is all about the sweet stuff in Mazishuga.

He hypes up his rap prowess using sugar as reference in the track which also came with a interesting lyric video.

Mazishuga is Marcus psyching himself up as a rapper with subtle sexual undertones.

At one point he intelligently used Vimbai Zimuto’s surname as a metaphor for ‘too much soup/sauce and the semi-nude pic of the songstress can be seen flashing in the lyric video.
