Here is How You can achieve a Stunning Wedding Makeup

Wedding Makeup Tips by Katie Jones

You’re all geared up with little details for your big day. From table linen, flowers, dresses, caterers, and the wedding cake to shoes, accessories, and wedding favours – you’re ready for it all. The only thing left for you now is to concentrate on yourself.

Once you’ve decided on your wedding dress and had your fitting done, it’s obvious that you would want to look the prettiest on your wedding day!

You can either have a few test runs done with a makeup professional or you can do your makeup yourself.

Whichever option you choose, Katie from Orla James says you should use products that are tried and tested earlier. She recently attended a wedding where the bride used a new foundation that turned clumpy on her face! Don’t let this happen to you. Only use makeup products that you are comfortable with and have previously used on your skin to avoid any last minute surprises.

Let us help you with a few wedding makeup tips that are out of the ordinary:

  • Lighten your under-eyes:

You will be on your toes the entire day and may feel a little tired. Your under eyes will start looking grey and tired. Use a concealer to brighten and cover your under eyes. As the day progresses, your face will remain fresh and bright looking. Using a concealer that is a shade lighter than your skin tone to cover and brighten your eyes will enhance your eyeshadow to look striking. You can also accentuate your brows with concealer on your brow bone.

  • Shape and Shade your eyebrows:

Shape your eyebrows with hard wax, threading, or tweezers a week prior to your wedding day. On the morning of your big day, do not forget to lightly fill your brows out with an eyebrow pencil that is the closest shade to your hair colour.

Cameras and lights always catch imperfections that are visible in photos. Shade your eyebrows to ensure you are picture perfect all day long.

  • Waterproof Makeup:

You might get a little emotional on your wedding day. If not, you might feel a little perspiration because of the lights or the weather. This is especially true of summer weddings. Waterproof makeup helps keep your makeup looking fresh and clean throughout the ceremony and reception. It also helps to have waterproof mascara in case you get a little emotional.

  • Blend your makeup with a sponge or beauty blender:

Avoid using your fingers and brushes as much as possible. Fingers generate body heat as you apply your makeup and might mess up the color and tone of your products. Another trick is to keep your fingers as far away from your face as possible to avoid unnecessary smudging, dirt, and fingerprints! Brushes tend to leave strokes of foundation or concealer and contour powders. Avoid all these issues by blending your makeup (with a sponge) directly onto your skin. Remember, the camera catches all imperfections.

  • Reapply your lipstick throughout the day:

You will keep smiling and talking on the day of your wedding. Keep reapplying your lipstick after you eat or drink. Always have your lipstick shade handy (preferably with one of your bridesmaids) so that you don’t have to carry it on you at all times.

  • Use trusted eye drops:

Many brides experience last-minute jitters and nervousness on the day of the wedding. This might show up in your eyes too. If you haven’t slept well the night prior, you might wake up with red eyes the morning of! Use trusted eye drops to whiten your eyes and soothe any redness you might develop. You can also do this the previous night before you sleep so that you wake up with fresh, clear looking eyes.

  • Use oil blotting sheets:

Makeup can get oily or greasy as the day progresses. Use oil blotting sheets or matte sprays on your makeup every 3 – 4 hours to look fresh and dewy all day long. Ensure you choose a sheet that won’t blot your makeup and instantly removes any excess oils from your face.

Remember it’s your wedding day and you must look picture perfect all day long. Use makeup shades that are closest to your skin tones and avoid too many dark colors on your face. Instead of dark eyeshadow and smoky eyes for the ceremony, you could opt for pinks and peaches on your skin. Similarly, opt for darker shades during evening weddings and receptions to look your best! Most importantly, keep smiling. Nothing makes you look prettier than a gorgeous smile.

An Album About Relentless Youths, Brutal Honesty And Urban Parties: TFAF Review

After a four year hiatus and discrete solo efforts, the Harare troika Few Kings returns again with yet another body of work entitled The Feeling Ain’t Fear.

Comprising of thirteen tracks, it is Few Kings and hip-hop as we’ve known and come to appreciate both.

The music is a wondrous concoction and production ranges from the boom bap beats, Caribbean vibes, the dirty south and some pop flavours.

What they actually strive for is far more ambitious and way beyond mere genre boundaries. It’s bemusing, confusing and exciting, and the listener is enveloped in a sound world that shifts at its own pace.

With this one, the trio gives us a glimpse of how life is like in the urban landscape of Harare.

There’s no questioning the calibre and the tone of their operatic, which appears to convey the harsh sounds of the streets whilst keeping the hustle and the party in mind.

Songs like Still The Few and Long Live The Few reiterates the idea of their seldom kingship and most importantly how awesome they are. With tight rhymes spat over the stomping hip hop grit beats the power and minds of these two lyricists remain undiminished. Imagine the Zimbabwean hip-hop of today without their influence.

Famba Famba , which kicks off with a snippet of what happened at ZIFM during the Fix The Fixx dialogue finds the two spitting interchangeably in a Run DMC fashion over a scratched boom bap accompaniment. We couldn’t be more proud of Fizzo doing it the Dj Premier way.

And like their debut, the sophomore is also a beautiful bolt that shows the two could be emotionally accessible. Vasikana Ava, Versace and Gucci and Stuck In The Clouds are love songs that likely to win over many lovie-dovies.

The later which sampled Dr Oliver Mtukudzi’s Ndiwe  Wega Uripo standout mainly because Tehn delivered a really wavy melody.

The talented MC Chita appears on Bum Bum where he lends further heavyweight input. It’s a unique party song and expect to hear it in anywhere.

The pop music is filled with songs about mothers and very few-to-non about fathers. So, on Kutaura Neni the two takes a rare chance and did a song for the patriarch that brought them up,  and for that, we give them major props.

And with the country’s current socio-economic and political climate as it stands there couldn’t be a better time for the two to slamdunk this brazen dose of social commentary into the political net.

Bad Boy with Fizzo on the hook bemoans rape and has Tehn and Breezy dictating harsh terms to the perpetrator.

Mamero which kicks off with the President’s speech on corrupted traffic cops tells a story of the regular cat-and-mouse game between drivers and cops.

The climax of The Feeling Ain’t Fear comes to the fore with The Remedy,  a song that fearlessly exposes everything that happening in the country.

Chanting,  “The revolution isn’t gonna stop”, the two exhibits abilities above average emcees ever since, commenting on the politics of the nation without the usual clichés.

They wield rhymes that embody the youth’s restless spirit, establishing a rebellious and a sympathetic tone along the way.

The album also has its fair share of drama-catching humour. On 15 Billion they used a snippet of a phone conversation in which Sniper was offered to perform for $50 before they went on to declare their insatiability when it comes to money.

What’s humorous isn’t Sniper’s issue, but how they played around fifteen billion, a same amount of money that reportedly went missing off the money made at Chiadzwa diamond mine.

There’s also a snip of Olinda’s facebook rant, yes, the album has a lot.

In a nutshell, The Feeling Ain’t Fair is a quality performance with solid production.

A remarkable display of creative unity, it would be fair to view it as the link between hip-hop’s golden past-and- hopefully a vision of its shining and versatile future. It’s executed with a comprehensive flair that caters to listeners both old and new.

If the general consensus has it that their debut The Feeling Ain’t Fair was a plaudit-magnet in its own right, the truth is, anyone who was or wasn’t convinced by it is going to find more issues to take from this one.

When The Gigmaster, the Braaimaster & the Brewmaster Meet

The moment party animals hear the word PARTY they immediately start on stocking up on their energies, for they know they ’bout t have a good time until Mama comes knocking.

Last year was big, this year its gonna be bigger

But there are parties and then there are PARTIES, The Castle Lager National Braai Day.

This year is no difference, in fact, its gonna be the biggest single event where people have ever braaied meat (If you are from the other side of Samora Machel or you are reading this from inside the American Embassy, braai is what you guys call a barbecue)

As part of cementing its communication platform launched last year “It all comes together with a Castle” this braai day will see the Gigmaster (music), the Braaimaster (braai) and the brewmaster (castle) coming together bringing to life what Castle stands for.

The Gigmaster (Music)

Music really matters at a party and makes all the difference especially during the earlier hours just when the party is warming up.

The event is set to kick off at 12. 00 p.m and will finish late. Expect this stellar line up to provide the musical dose Jah Prayza, Winky D, Andy Muridzo, XQ and Freeman and various DJ’s who will entertain the crowd throughout the day.

The Braaimaster (braai)

Remember a ridiculous 15 000kgs of meat has to be consumed in a single day.

To make this a success Castle Lager partnered popular braai spot outlets that include Boomerang, Family 24, Paramount and Farai. They will be assisting with the braaing of meat, however, there will be braai stands available for own braaing.

The Brewmaster (castle)

With the music hit all the right nerves of your body, the meat going down your stomach, there has to be a castle larger to complete the gang of three.

For one to get access to the venue they have to pay an entrance fee of $5 that will guarantee them a braai pack and 1L of Castle Lager.

Location, location, location

The venue is Old Hararians Sports Club, the date  28 October and the time is from 12 noon

5 Basic Lessons on Motherhood from Itai Mutinhiri

Star Fm presenter Itai Mutinhiri is a first time Mom in celebville and has found a new source of joy in her adorable baby Malakai Ronewa Ndou.

The  Stylish Celebrity Mom  is already a fashion role model for her daughter as Malakai is already on that ‘On fleek tip’ when it comes to fashion.

But away from the glitz and glamour associated with her job, what has Itai learnt in her short journey as a mother? Below she shares with us her basic lessons on motherhood.

Lesson 1

My biggest lesson was patience.God knows how hard it is for a mum to figure out what’s wrong with her baby when she decides to just cry randomly and yet you would have done all you can to address her distress tantrums.

My baby sometimes cries at night and I’m forced to stay up feed her play with her making the funniest voices until she sleeps. And guess what? That’s whatever time she decides to dose off..lol

Lesson 2

I’ve learnt that its ok to be emotional. I remember day 2 in the hospital my baby woke up in the middle of the night and excited as I was I began playing with her.

After a few minutes, she just went ziiii head bent ..??I swear I thought something had happened to her because I shook her but she wouldn’t twitch.

I started screaming and buzzed the emergency button and cried. You can imagine the horror with the nurse racing to my bed thinking something fatal had happened, only to hold her face down and you can all guess what happened, well she moved and smiled even..But I can tell you from that day on I became emotional about anything to do with my baby.

Lesson 3

I learnt that you can survive on a few hours of sleep and that being a zombie does not kill?.I can tell you now that baby Malakai can wake up at 3 am, feed and still stay woke for an hour and yet mommy would still need to sometimes go on that morning shift grind at 5 am ..Seriously who does that !? Yep !!babies..And we love them still.

Lesson 4

I learnt to love unconditionally, and eternally. When Mali was born she was not so perfect to anyone else.

I remember my sister laughing that I had caused her to come out with little streaks of hair because of my love for eggs and liver during my pregnancy.

She would be called an embryo that came out before time and all sorts of names lol, but all that didn’t matter to me. I really couldn’t believe she was mine, she was perfect in my eyes.

I instantly felt the motherly instinct to love and protect her even with my life. God, I love that child.

Lesson 5

Last but not least I’ve learnt that it’s ok to leave baby Mali at home while having to go to work or having some me time hanging out with friends or going out on date nights with her dad, which I believe keeps me sane.

During my first months of motherhood, I would be with my baby 24-7 and wouldn’t let anyone bath her or play with her for long worse still in my absence.

It was a total nooooo. All this I did until a few weeks before the end of my maternity leave. I had to live 8hours or more without her, something I am still getting used to.

I have come to understand that being a mom does not have to totally change you as a person and I’m grateful for a partner like mine who understands that after all the pressure of multitasking mommy duties I deserve some time out and let my hair down for a bit before getting back to my mommy duties that I so dearly love ❤️.

#Tuesbeauty: Fleeking The Brow Game

Whilst drawing your eyebrows may sound cool, it can be one of the biggest nightmares when done wrong or using the wrong products.

Those that have been following my previous topics may have realised how much of an eye opener this journey has been with regards to the reason why and how we wear make-up, as well as which armoury to equip ourselves with.

Now we get onto ‘WHAT’ products to use to fill in the eyebrows and for a naturally flawless look that lasts the whole day.

I chose eyebrows first because it’s every lady’s dream to slay the brow game.

Here is a breakdown of the products with their pros and cons.

  1. Eyebrow gel / Dip brow

This is by far my favourite and best-recommended eyebrow product as it is easy to use. It normally comes with its brushes for easy application.

Dip brow is waterproof and ideal for a summer season where lots of ladies sweat a lot, the drawn in brow stays on point because it doesn’t rub off. However, because of its long wear effect, it can be a bit pricey but worth it.

  1. Eyebrow Pencil

This is the most common product amongst many people. However, its proper use is not as common as it sounds. Not every lady knows how to hold it properly and fill and define the eyebrows in a natural way.

We find lots of women drawing different types of lines; you would swear they turn their faces to graph sheets in a geometry class.

However this is the most affordable one, it can still bring the same result but the biggest challenge is that it easily rubs off unless if you get a waterproof and long-lasting one.

  1. Brow powder

I see a few raised eyebrows as they are reading this heading, ‘powder’? Yes, brow powder not face powder. You can fill in your brows with powder, in terms of giving a 100% illusion of a natural brow, powder is the recommended product, however, it’s not long wear.

Brow powder is a brown powder specifically designed for eyebrows.

We have seen eyebrow stamps also hitting the market, and you will notice that it is eyebrow powder packaged in a user-friendly way, you dip on powder and simply stamp on your eyebrows.

Despite its hustle free use, it has it’s negatives in the sense that eyebrow shapes vary yet the stamps are not really customised for the different eyebrow shapes.

Did you know that you can also use eyeshadow as brow powder, yes you can!

  1. Brow Pen

This is basically a tipped pen used to define and shape your brows. It is a long-wearing soft matte refinement packaged in form of a pen for ease of use.
