Chiyangwa a victim of his good looks?

The King of selfies had an interview with Newsday’s Kevin Mapasure in which he was quoted saying,  “A combination of looks and riches attracts problems, so I am a victim of my good looks and riches. Everybody who has money attracts problems.”

You can read the whole story here.

So here at Zimbuzz we asked a few ladies to give us their opinion regarding this claim. The question was simple. Is ‘Dr Phill’ good looking?

Read our findings:

Kkkkkk, the guy has nothing much to look at. he is bad looking. Having money and ladies falling over each other to get yo dosent mean you are good looking. If he didn’t have money he wouldn’t be claiming this- Mumu

Tee agrees and disagree with the claim.

Aive akanaka kare kwake iyezvino hachina. Maybe its age.

Riri can not see anything good on him

What looks is he talking about? If he is saying money is his look that has nothing to do with facial attributes then i guess yeah, but looks? Nah man what looks

HIFA explain changes in detail

On Thursday HIFA announced that the next edition of the festival will happen in 2017  but leading to that will be a variety of programmes throughout the year.

The organisers have sent us a detailed report on the press conference held at the Royal Harare Golf Club.

Read it below:

Known for innovation, panache and trendsetting, the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) has announced a ground-breaking suite of programmes that will see what organisers have called a “365-day a year Festival”. Expanding HIFA’s increasingly influential position in the socio-cultural landscape of Zimbabwe, the organization announced five areas of programming designed to maximize HIFA’s impact between now and the next 6-day Festival in April/May 2017. The exciting programs running throughout the year offer innovative performances and exhibitions, community engagement projects, high entertainment sports events, audience development initiatives and high-quality event management services.

“Our new format allows people to enjoy different aspects of the HIFA experience throughout the year” said Maria Wilson, HIFA’s Executive Director. “This year-round approach fulfills HIFA’s mandate to promote arts and culture in Zimbabwe whilst developing new audiences and promoting the country.”

Explaining the five programme areas, Founder and Artistic Director, Manuel Bagorro, said “HIFA PRESENTS offers immersive weekends of intense arts programming throughout the year, as well as major stand-alone performances. HIFA EVENTS provides first-class professional services for conferences, brand launches as well as corporate, diplomatic and private events. HIFA PLAY produces major, high-entertainment and high production sports events. The HIFA Amigos programme is a bold audience development programme for HIFA PRESENTS events throughout the year, as well as for the Zimbabwean arts sector more broadly.”

Bagorro said that the fifth section, called HIFA ENGAGE will roll out 4, major education and community projects running over the next 18 months and culminating at HIFA 2017. “HIFA’s Travelling Arts Manufactory is a professional development, skills exchange and field support program working across the country. Voices of 1000 works in national schools, offering a creative learning project leading to a major mass choir “happening” at HIFA 2017.  The City Project is the third project under the HIFA ENGAGE section. It is a public art program exploring and transforming the experience of public transport in Harare. Rounding off the developmental projects under HIFA ENGAGE is HIFA Access, an initiative that convenes meetings, symposia and collaborative brainstorming conversations aimed at strengthening and emboldening the Zimbabwean cultural sector.”

HIFA 2017 will showcase the spectacular artistic outcomes of the various programs running throughout the year and across the country, supported by the audience development programming for which HIFA has such a strong track record.

HIFA emphasised that though there will not a be a six-day event at the end of April into May 2016, HIFA is more than a 6-day annual event and will in fact be more active, visible and dynamic throughout the year than in previous years. “It is what audiences have been asking for for a long time,” says Bagorro, “HIFA throughout the year. Our new suite of programmes are designed to powerfully engage not only the fantastic HIFA team but also our devoted supporters, the wonderful artists and general public in Zimbabwe, who will have more HIFA activity, diversity and impact than ever before.”

Just In:No HIFA next year, But…

The Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) has announced that the festival won’t be running until 2017.

The announcement was made today at a press conference held at Royal Harare Golf Club, the organisers said that they will be building towards the next edition in 2017 with exciting programs geared for the next 18 months.

Said founder Manuel Bagorro: “We are restructuring our mindset but we are not changing much as our core values still remain the same so is our sense of exctiment.

“To sustain the brand for the next 18 months we have come up with 5 elements.”

According to Bagorro the five elements are HIFA Present, which will be basically responsible for putting together inspiring shows throughout the year till the xnet edition.

HIFA Events will be responsible for producing events, be it parties or brand launches.

The most exciting one is HIFA Play which will be a fusion of arts and sports.

The other elements include HIFAMIGOS and HIFA Engage.

So to put it simply HIFA isn’t going anywhere but will be running a series of events spread throughout the year as opposed to the just six days we were accustomed to.

This they decide to call HIFA, Next Level

Filmmakers from across the continent still have a chance to send in their entries and participate at the 2016 AMVCAs, but only if they send in their entries before 30 October.

Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, Regional Director for M-Net (West),
said: “Submissions for the fourth edition of the AMVCAs are still ongoing and we urge all filmmakers across the continent who meet the criteria to send in their works. All film and television works that are produced and broadcast or publicly exhibited from 1 October 2014 to 30 September 2015 qualify to enter for the 2016 AMVCAs.”

The AMVCAs were created to celebrate the contribution of African filmmakers, actors and technicians in the success of the continent’s film and television industry and with the success of the previous three editions, preparations for the 2016 edition are underway. For the 2016 edition, a new head judge and three new voting categories were recently announced. The head judge, Njoki Muhoho, is a respected Kenyan filmmaker and she takes over from Femi Odugbemi who held the position for three years. The three new voting categories are Best East African movie, Best West African movie and Best Southern African movie, all of which exist side by side with the overall best movie category.

For the fourth edition of the AMVCAs, the organisers are inviting all entries for film and television works produced and broadcast or publicly exhibited from 1 October 2014 to 30 September 2015.

Mxit is shutting down

South Africa’s fNew-Mxit-Logoree instant messaging app – Mxit is shutting down its commercial operations and donating all of its intellectual property and technology assets to independent public benefit organisation ‘The Reach Trust’, Fin24 reports.

According to the report, the app lost millions of active users in a short period of time, from 7.5 million monthly active users in 2013 dropped to 1.2 million in July 2015.

Mxit, in its statement, said its application would still be available to the public as a download.

But as part of the deal, Mxit chief executive Francois Swart will depart after three years in charge. Almost 30 Mxit staff will also be transferred to The Reach Trust under CEO Andrew Rudge and ex-FNB CEO Michael Jordaan, who has been the chairperson of Mxit, will not be actively involved with the operations of The Reach Trust.

As part of the change Mxit will also exit its India and Nigeria businesses.

The Reach Trust has been providing free services such as text-based counselling and education initiatives to up to 10 million people since 2012.
